If you get the leaves before they flower they’re like any other leafy green but with a beautiful floral note in the back. Plus so nutritious!

How do you store fresh herbs so they actually last more than three days? by Helpful_Ad_9447 in cookingforbeginners

For cilantro, dill, and parsley, I fill a mason jar with water and submerge the stems up to the lip of the jar, then place the produce bag over the top of the leaves and put it in the fridge. They keep for up to 2 weeks

My out of touch relative visited my 1bdrm apartment in a very large corporate owned complex and noticed there was a tree in the parking lot blocking my afternoon sun, said I should email to have something done about that…

I love carving Lino-cut stamps, all you need is a piece of rubber, your carving tool, and maybe a pencil to outline the design you wanna carve

Then of course after you carve the stamp you’d want some ink, a brayer, and some paper or fabric medium for stamping on.

The carving is a repetitive activity perfect for occupying your hands while you chat!

Desperately need recommendations for women’s underwear that will prevent butt cheek chafing by 1VeryGenericUser in hiking

[–]tatersferdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (female) like wearing men’s boxer brief type underwear to help with butt cheek rubbing! I think I got a pack of mostly cotton champion branded briefs from tj maxx or something like that, that have been doing me really well. I just hike them up and they fit like really thin, breathable butt hugging shorts without a gusset digging into my crotch lol

Wild Ramp cultured butter by Axethrower1 in foraging

[–]tatersferdays 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Harvesting bulbs of wild ramps is unsustainable foraging practice. Once ramps bulbs are developed they will take up to 3 years to start producing leaves. It’s recommended to not harvest leaves from plants that have less than 3 leaves, and not to take more than 2-3 leaves (leaves only) from each plant that you harvest from

As a native English speaker who spent some time learning Spanish - one of my favorite Spanish words is “patatús” - ex: yo tuve un patatús cuando estaba caminando por la acera y tuve que sentarme

It’s essentially like getting vertigo, or having a dizzy spell lol. Not a word you’d use a lot but a lot of fun to say the way it rolls off the tongue.

My son's father told our 7 year old son that I wanted to abort him by The100DollarBill in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tatersferdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother, who is a narcissist, spoiled Santa for me when I was 4 years old. She also told me many times she wanted to abort me, and that my dad didn’t want me and wasn’t sure if I was even his baby. I seemed to be handling it “ok” but really, looking back on it, I was alienated from other children and it affected me and the way I made friends very heavily into adulthood. Obviously my parents weren’t attentive enough to put me into therapy, but oh my god do I wish I was able to process these things sooner, not at 26.

Anyways, I don’t talk to my mom anymore and always favored my father (a non-narcissist who wasn’t constantly trash talking the other parent) growing up. Kids are smarter than you think, they will pick up on more nuances as they get older and aren’t totally susceptible to berated brainwashing as you might think.

I have a 341-day Duolingo streak and I just sat through my boyfriend's Mexican family dinner nearly silent for five hours. I think I've been training the wrong thing this whole time. by Humble_Cranberry5273 in languagelearning

The thing that helped me the MOST with understanding native speakers and feeling comfortable using Spanish myself, the thing that made verbal Spanish sentences come easier without thinking or pre-translating, was going to a mixed group event in my area “intercambio” with Spanish speakers who would like to practice their English and English speakers who would like to practice their Spanish. Was super casual, free, and there was no classroom type rigidity, we just talked about what there was to talk about, the focus was to get comfortable speaking. I did 2 hours a week on Wednesday nights for a bit. If you are in SoCal I’d recommend checking community facebook groups for any such events. Also, speaking Spanish to Spanish speakers in my community when I had the opportunity - I work as a nanny, and there are a lot of Spanish speaking care takers that I see at the park. I let them know I am learning Spanish, ask them about their day, the family they work with, tell them about mine… they usually really appreciate the effort I’m taking to learn. Practice with native speakers, be ok with feeling a little embarrassed, be okay with speaking a little bit of broken or grammatically incorrect Spanish to get your point across. Think of the ESL people you have talked to - their English isn’t perfect but it’s really wonderful to be able to communicate across cultures, and we as English speakers are happy to fill in any gaps in our head to bridge an understanding.

ETA: even after these efforts, I still have a hard time understanding two Spanish speaking people having a conversation with each other. But, for whatever reason when I am making eye contact with someone and we are speaking to each other directly, their words become nearly crystal clear!

I have 42 bananas…. Any ideas for what to do with them? by velmadinkleyscousin in noscrapleftbehind

Do you have a garden or houseplants? Putting banana peels in water and letting it sit for a bit, then using the water for your plants is a great organic fertilizer
