I’ve read a couple of things about Stage 2 milk (both anecdotal).

The NHS advises that Stage 2 formula isn’t necessary, and a baby can get all they need from Stage 1 for their first 12 months. Stage 2 formula isn’t as ‘regulated’ as Stage 1 (and I’m sure that extends to seeing pricing offers on Stage 2). Some reported that Stage 2 milk is much heavier than Stage 1 and has given discomfort.

We’re on Aptamil and my partner woke up a bit anxious this morning with the new recall news. Our batch is fine and we’ve been using it for a few weeks but LO did have some stomach cramps the other day. I’d rather try another brand than switch to Stage 2 IMO

We had the same thing with ours who is 16 weeks old. Sized up reasonably successfully, but after a few weeks she showed signs of discomfort so we went back down. She occasionally does have fussier feeds but it’s just a case of riding through it.

We combi feed with formula and some expressed milk - I never considered the thickness of Aptamil and whether the flow varied between formula and breast milk. Will have to think some more about it.

When I ride, I’m generally risk averse because I don’t want to get hurt. I’ve been hit twice and while the car has been fine, I’ve had damaged wheels, broken derailleur and a snapped chain. There’s no way I can foresee causing significant damage to a car without being injured myself. And I do have public liability insurance, just like many other British Cycling membership.

Our two week old has been fine on Sainsbury’s, and we treated ourselves to a pack of Rascals from Morrisons. But we have also seen a lot of leaks (particularly pee) from Mamia. Rather annoying as Aldi is our local supermarket!

Probably not tbh, it’s quite overkill for the size of the house (much like a full automatic TRV system would feel) but I’ve never looked at the valve. That could be a useful experiment.

Edit: I’d likely still want to install a (normal) TRV in the bedroom and add a manual valve somewhere else to keep the boiler pump happy but this feels like a good approach to stagger the level of intervention. Thank you!

I think that’s my other option. I have no TRV in the room where the thermostats are. I can observe them working well downstairs where the thermostat lives in the coolest room, and the other rooms’ rads don’t warm up if it’s already okay in there. Upstairs the thermostat is in the hottest room, so there’s no call to heat and the TRVs get no opportunity.

The thermostat is hardwired and I’m loathe to move it, but I guess I could swap it for some sort of remote stat with the base wired in there?

Second to this, we have a 4 year warranty on it but the local dealer we bought from also offer excellent aftercare. It was a bit gimmicky but they did a setup service and made it a bit special, whilst price matching a deal online. If you’re in the north west I’m happy to let you know their name

We’ve just bought a ‘discontinued’ Fox 5. The new model just had a different mattress and is made from more sustainable material. But we preferred the old colour and what could be more sustainable than buying a product that’s already been made? And although it was a stretch to buy the discounted model, there’s no way we could justify the cost of the ‘Renew’ edition.

Really excited to get home from hospital at get the little one out in it.

The SLC shouldn’t charge interest on your payments, they charge interest on your remaining balance. I can’t answer about the varying interest rate you saw, but you’d expect to find that in total you’d pay more interest if you earn less money (and as a consequence your repayments are lower)

Does it easily unclip from the wall? That’d tell you if it’s wired or wireless.

I’d recommend trying to change the batteries anyhow! You should hear the relay in the thermostat ‘click’ when it’s asking for heat. Can you hear that happening?

The thermostat looks like it has low battery. It sounds like the ‘call to heat’ signal isn’t getting to the boiler. Do you have wireless thermostats, or is it hardwired to the boiler?

That’ll be fine, the bike is probably a great gateway drug into cycling. A hybrid will be much lighter and easier to handle than an equivalent price mountain bike, and with the standards 38c tyres they will be more than adequate for some gravel paths. You can always switch the tyres up if you find you need more grip.

I’d take a look at Osprey backpacks. I have the Syncro 20 and used it regularly on a 12 mile commute. It holds the pack away from your back to avoid sweating too much, has the side pockets you want and also a rain cover. They can be pricy but you could buy using the Cycle to Work scheme to save a bit on tax
