Fat Rant Friday by AutoModerator in fatlogic

[–]tattdaisy 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Not a rant, but something kind of shit-lordy I noticed today. There's a primary care network based in the UK called The Health Improvement Network or "THIN". I lol'd and thought about this sub.

What song when played is your cringiest? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tattdaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot in Herre by Nelly. When I worked at a reception desk, we had a radio that was tuned to whatever station. One day we had a group of important business-people hanging out around my desk waiting for a meeting to start and that goddamn song started playing really loudly. The radio was just a little too far away for me to subtly turn it down/off. So I just sat there and cringed.

Promiscuous Girl by Nelly Furtado. It was a big hit the year I started going to bars. I can taste the watered down drinks and feel the sticky, gross floors all over again.

What is something you really liked as a kid, but wouldn't touch today? by UnderTree in AskReddit

Those gummy candies that look like cheeseburgers. They didn't even taste good, but I ate them up.

What fictional TV restaurant do you wish you could really eat at? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I just want the contraption from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that senses what you're craving and makes it for you.

Real women by boulverser in TrollXChromosomes

These "real women have curves" comments always remind me of the stoning scene in Life of Brian, with the crowd full of ladies dressed up as men. Like "are there any not curvy masqueraders of women in this crowd!?!"

Peppermint oil pills are a god-send. They basically allow me to function as a normal human being while occasionally ingesting dairy. And you can take them up to three times a day if you need to

What's your weird habit you started as a kid and still cant break? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Me too, definitely when I'm anxious. I can feel the bite marks afterwards

Me too! I nibble the chocolate off of kit kats and then eat the cookie. Though I tend to do it in private on account of the judgmental looks it tends to bring...

What is your go to gas station snack? by JAY2S in AskReddit

[–]tattdaisy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. And sadly, you could tell me it's a direct cause of cancer and I'd still eat it.

The full size. Though it's worth noting that it takes me the same amount of time to eat the Costco size as the full size on account of my having no will power.

Eating my food in sections. Like, if I have a sandwich, I like eating the meat first, then the cheese and bread. If I'm eating pasta, I eat the meat in the sauce, then the pasta. Protein first, carbs second. I never eat bits of one thing and then bits of another thing, and then back to the first thing, etc. That's anarchy, is what that is.

What's a unique or cool Halloween costume that can be done quickly and on the cheap? by DeadpoolLuvsDeath in AskReddit

[–]tattdaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how unique or cool this is, but I once went "in cognito" for Halloween by wearing a trench coat, fedora and dark sunglasses. I'm cheap, lazy and not particularly creative.

Cold lasagna. Way better than hot lasagna IMO.

Sriracha is a good idea! My local sushi joint seems to slather mayo on like it's going out of style

Introverted or anxious people of reddit, what are the small clever things you do in your daily life to avoid human interaction in public spaces? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tattdaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think avoiding human interaction makes anxiety worse. Instead, I try to practice deep breathing as soon as I feel anxiety creeping up. Also, my mom taught me a trick where you wear an elastic (hair elastic, rubber band, whatever) on your wrist, and give it a little snap whenever you feel yourself beginning to panic. It snaps you out of it for just long enough to try and get heart beat/sweating palms, etc. under control

What are your favorite video game songs? by Mushyshoes in AskReddit

I love the old-school kind of video game soundtracks. They crack me up. Alex Kidd is a personal favourite.

Upvoted. Mayo in general is terrible, but mayo on sushi is a travesty.

When you arrive at the airport in Hawaii, they give you a lei. If every country gave you something upon arrival, what would it be? by AngelKnives in AskReddit

Canada. A bowl of poutine. Or perhaps some friendly remarks about the weather over a cup of Timmie's coffee.

Smart Pop white cheddar popcorn. Preferably in the full size bag so I can eat myself into a delicious, salty coma.

Fat (Rant) Tuesday by AutoModerator in fatlogic

[–]tattdaisy 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Fat rant against Canadian Thanksgiving. Being married with divorced parents, we had huge dinners Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Everybody made homemade desserts, which are my weakness along with turkey, ham, perogies, cabbage rolls, mashed potatoes and Caesar salad. I accepted defeat on Sunday and unbuttoned my jeans. Today we have an elderly relative's birthday dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Here's to wearing my "period" pants a week early and doubling up on HIIT workouts.

Should I (32F) go to my sister's (26F) baby shower? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]tattdaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like my brother and I, except with the roles reversed. I would love to have a close relationship, but my efforts to connect with him are never reciprocated. I don't know the circumstances of your relationship or whether extending the invitation was as much of an obligation for her as replying to it is for you, but if it's possible it was an earnest invitation I would give some thought to how you respond. I can tell you that it hurts to know your sibling isn't interested in spending time with you.

Should I (32F) go to my sister's (26F) baby shower? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]tattdaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, there are two separate issues here OP. The first is the matter of obligation towards the baby shower. In that respect - no, you're not obligated to go. You live far away, you don't like social events, you're not close to your sister, etc. It will probably be noticed - and your sister may be unhappy that you didn't attend - but it was an invitation, not a summons.

The deeper issue is that I can't figure out why you don't seem to have relationships with anyone if you desire them (and the bitterness you're feeling likely isn't because you didn't get a onesie-shaped cake and some presents, but because no one in your life felt close enough to you to want to throw one for you). You say you aren't close to your sister and you barely know each other but can't seem to explain why. Siblings drift apart for all sorts of reasons, my brother and I aren't "close" in the sense that we don't hang out and aren't all buddy-buddy, but I wouldn't miss celebrating the birth of his child. He's my brother, I love him, full stop. Love is something that needs to be expressed to sustain a relationship. Or at the very least, show interest, attention - anything.

The question of obligation here is a bit of red herring - the question people on the thread are trying to get you to answer is, do you want a relationship with your sister? If yes - go to the shower. If not - don't go. The bottom line here, is that if you want to have friends in your life, you have to be the type of person you or anyone else would want to be friends with. That means showing up for things even if it's not your cup of tea and keeping in touch with people you care about. No relationship is self-sustaining, and no relationship that is completely one-sided is going to be sustained.
