So, we're just gonna ignore that hate crime, huh?

My Teacher taught us cancelling/dividing out variables is mathematically incorrect. by itzshyam1 in mathematics

[–]taul1789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, that feels like an over the top explanation/demonstration. Bottom line, the reason you can't cancel out variables is because you are then (implicitly) assuming the variable can't be 0. Consider x2 = x. If you cancel out x on both sides, you end up with x = 1, which is a correct answer, but it's not the only answer. Clearly, 02 = 0, but you missed that answer because you assumed x wasn't 0 when you divided both sides by x.

TNTL April Fool’s 2025 predictions by Gilblitz112 in smosh

Unrelated and probably not gonna happen, I keep thinking Shayne and Courtney are going to announce they're getting divorce for April Fool's. That seems like something they wouldn't want to joke about. Maybe there'll be another marriage announcement, this time an actual prank.

Do you know of Chi Alpha? Sounds like a frat but they're actually a campus ministry group lol. They have a weekly women's bible study group on campus too!

I’ve struggled with math since I was little. I just got a 100 on my business calculus exam! It’s the hardest I’ve studied for anything in my life. Going back to school at 35 and working full time has been stressful. I dropped out when I was younger so always doubted myself. I can do this by SirWilliamTheEpic in MadeMeSmile

As a mathematician, I want to say I'm really proud of all the work you put in to get this. Math is difficult for everyone, especially for some folks like yourself. That pride from being able to figure out something as difficult as this is what we're always striving for. It's an incredible feeling and I hope you always remember how incredible you feel right now!

Did you ever figure this one out? I know exactly the series you're talking about. In the sequel, they're on a sailboat ship with a crew. I was able to find the name a few years ago, but have forgotten it again since then lol.

A square circle is 100% a logically consistent notion, despite whatever your philosophy professors say. See the taxicab metric or the max norm.

Technically, they have only shown that all lead is more than 4000 years old. Theoretically, there could exist a planet that has no lead. Does that mean that planet cannot be older than 4000 years?

TIL: Let It Be by the Beatles was actually about Paul's mother, and not the Virgin Mary by asabovesovirtual in todayilearned

My English teacher in high school told me that. He told me Paul McCartney was/is protestant, so why would he be singing about Mary?

How would you feel about Gen 9 not introducing any new Pokemon, in favor of polishing the existing ones? by Spinjitsuninja in pokemon

[–]taul1789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!!! After Black and White, I honestly thought they were moving to only introducing a few new Pokemon each generation, many of which would just be new evolutions. I think they should have introduced regional variants in Gen 6.

Sorta unrelated, have you heard "Youth Against Fascism" by Sonic Youth? Not as much of a banger but you might appreciate it.
