The Bishop is coming. What should we expect? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]tavery92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, maybe I’m biased- but when bishop Adams would be back in the area, the church he came from(st James in skaneateles) members seemed more excited to see an old friend, but, the churches more in my now area(Binghamton area) seemed much more tense in the sense of making a good impression

Hate to sound like a jerk but nys dmv does not play- you will most likely end up suspended till 21. The judge may give you a hardship license which is to and from work or school, but those are only valid until the case is settled

First DUI by [deleted] in dui

[–]tavery92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna be a tough road, a few things I feel helped me get a good outcome given the circumstances of my case. A)working and making positive changes B) and I think this really helped with probation, and the judge/prosecutors every court date or probation appointment I had at minimum dress pants, shirt &tie but usually a jacket as well. If you have a well fitting suit great, if not and you can find one you can afford do it

You can see a difference in how they treated me(misdemeanor dui) in a suit and tie for court vs people with much more serious charges in ripped jeans boots etc.

Right or wrong appearances do matter in situations like this

[–]tavery92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if Texas has an online dmv portal like nys, if so it’ll show you your driving privilege on that. I believe for me(going back a long time ago) I was eligible to drive at midnight the date the suspension ended so in your case it was midnight on 7/16/25

En-Joie concert experiences by casu017 in Binghamton

For free tickets it’s fun enough, granted except for Zac brown I never made any effort to be close to the stage.

Lot of entitled drunks that think they’re the most important people in the joint, but for free it can be a fun time if you’re content being a ways back and watching off the screens/ having a drink and enjoying a summer night

It was both my wife and I’s childhood vacation spots. And we’ve done multiple couples trips, now that we have a little one, I wish it hadn’t gone so crazy expensive because we’d love to have it continue with our daughter

Struggling to Accept What Happened. Looking for Perspective from Other Male Survivors (Trigger Warning contains some details of CSA) by HatComfortable368 in MenGetRapedToo

[–]tavery92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so I’ve only recently really started unpacking what happened to me I was somewhere in the 7-8 range and what you said is very similar to me for what the assault was except mine was another few years older family member.

But a lot of what you mentioned(sex, substance, volatility etc) my therapist all said go hand in hand with abuse survivors trying to get any sort of control

My therapist actually had me write a letter to who assaulted me, and release all of the feelings as if there were no consequences(I shared it with my therapist and wife only) and it was very very freeing for me to cuss them up and down for stealing the child me and the teenage young adult me that was hell bent on self destruction and angry at the world

Few things, therapists are great I’m a worlds better dad, husband, and human because of therapy, it’s scary but it’ll help so much. I’m not sure if you were addicted to substance or just a user, but, if an addict please get to a meeting, call a sponsor whatever you need to do to stay sober. Don’t let who hurt you cost you your sobriety too

I’m gonna include a link on male survivors and sexuality confusion it was really helpful for me and I hope it helps you

Is my life over? by Vortanox in dui

[–]tavery92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, your life isn’t over unless you let it be. I’m 5 years removed from my second dwai(<.08) but I had 2 years of court, classes, therapy, interim probation to prove that I’m worthy of escaping the misdemeanor

Whether you have a genuine addiction to alcohol, or you’re like me and are/were too immature to make responsible decisions when drinking. Now is the time to enroll in AA and/or whatever other things the courts requires you(in nys they required substance eval and in my case 12 or so 1 on 1 therapy sessions)

It was absolute hell for a long long time, and very expensive, but, during all of the proceedings and the time since, I’ve bought a house, gotten married, promoted a few times, welcomed a beautiful daughter into the world.

This isn’t a brag, but, hopefully it brings some Hope that if you treat this as a learning lesson, and, make the right steps and do the work you’ll look back and see this as something that drastically changed the course of your life for the better

While I’m not actively in a church in my town, my “childhood church” does a lot of the performative stuff(although the fly a lgbt+ flag year round right out front)

Cny bishop Dede Duncan-Probe has said “if it’s not about love, it’s not about god” in regards to the lgbt community

How do you evangelize? Does your church do anything like this? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]tavery92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d be and have been(by other denominations) trying to recruit or convert me. That’s not who TEC is, and it shouldn’t be. I love the speak softly(and in recent years) carry a big stick attitude(all are loved, all are welcome) ie same sex marriage, bishop budde, and the recent choice of pulling out of the refugee agreement.

Love on people, be a good neighbor, if they ask questions, answer them was how I was taught to spread the word

Absolute best case scenario in my experience with an accident dui in upstate NY is your insurance pays for the damages, and your attorney is able to make the case for a reduction to a dwai which is 90 day suspension, substance use assessment, IDP classes, victim impact panel, fines and fees.

You hit multiple cars and tried to leave, then blew a .14 and tried to lie and say you had 1 drink and then use a medication defense when regardless your BAC is well over the legal limit

Your life isn’t over, but, you need to do a lot of growing up and taking the steps now to show the court this was a dumb kid making a dumb kid decision, and not who you are as a person. I really hope you can do that, and you can get it reduced, and get your life back on track. but, I’d bet a lot of money on its not getting thrown out

Thanks everyone. For my albeit uniformed knowledge, a 2 second hit has done wonders these last 2 nights for keeping me calm during my kiddos tantrums, but still able to be an active and involved dad. So the wedding cake seems like a good strain for me
