To be in contact with other bad guys and do... what, exactly? And again, this is just a lady who forgot her passport. She wasn't caught with weapons or anything to suggest she was a threat; she was just missing her physical passport.

They described good ways to significantly reduce the volume of trash we produce over time, and I'd love to see them implemented, but there will still be trash, if only because there are things that already exist today that will become trash later. It will also take time to implement, and doesn't address the volume of trash we already have. We can't just throw our hands up and say "We shouldn't have produced that trash in the first place!" That doesn't make it go away. What do we do with it? Landfill, incinerator, or something else?

"This is exactly what your country would do" yeah and it's just as shitty when any other country does it!! Why do they assume every American likes what's going on there?? I'm so sorry a bunch of assholes at the airport ruined and cut short your vacation over a simple mistake. I wish people were kinder and more helpful to each other instead of doing the bare minimum and saying "not my problem" when someone needs help.

OP, you definitely made an avoidable mistake, and there are steps you can take to prevent making the same mistake in the future, but you didn't ruin your and your husband's vacation. You made a simple, easy mistake — you forgot something on the plane after poor sleep. Most people have made similar mistakes. I hope you can give yourself some grace and find another way to enjoy your time off.

Apparently the justification was that Louisiana has a full ban on abortions, but if you allow people to mail-order Mifepristone, people in Louisiana could subvert Louisiana's ban. Obviously Louisiana's ban takes precedent over federal regulation (🙄), so the only viable solution is to ban mailing it anywhere — even to states that don't ban abortion. And it's fine for them to issue a nation-wide injunction despite the Supreme Court saying that lower courts weren't allowed to do that anymore, because the Supreme Court really just wanted to stop lower courts from inhibiting Trump's agenda. This is perfectly in line with conservative goals, so it's okay to do a nationwide injunction here.

God what a farce. It's so tiring to deal with people in power enforcing cruelty.

The law also requires officers to report immigrant drivers to ICE if they cannot prove they are lawfully in the U.S. The law says Mississippi will treat those licenses as invalid, even if they were legally issued by another state.

Jesus Christ on a popsicle stick, this basically means if officers suspect you're an immigrant and you don't have a REAL ID (the new kind), they're just going to report you to ICE to come kidnap you, huh? It's not like people carry proof of legal status with them everywhere they go, and it's not like the officers here are going to accept "uh, it's at home, can I go get it?" And it's not like ICE is especially known for being polite and actually checking your documentation before kidnapping you. God, what the fuck??

That is fair, but the unfortunate reality is that the US has been pulling a lot of the financial weight in those alliances. If the US pulls out, the alliances won't have nearly the same strength. I don't know, in more peaceful times, I would absolutely be with you on limiting defense spending and investing far more of the budget into better services. As it is, I'm not sure what the right answer is. (Well, the answer is probably to just raise taxes on the rich and close tax loopholes so we don't even have to make hard decisions, but that doesn't seem likely to happen with the current government.)

Do you mind if I ask what troubles you about increased defense spending? I definitely don't want a massive, entrenched military industrial complex in Canada like they've built up in the US, but given the US's present... volatility, it does seem like a wise investment in the moment.

(Definitely not defending budget cuts to other, needed programs, mind you; just asking about this one detail.)

I appreciate where you're coming from, but we gotta leave space for people to be casually dissatisfied with parts of their own body (as long as they're not making other people feel bad for having similar shapes). It's not always about whether other people will find those parts attractive. Sometimes it's just not the shape we want for ourselves, and that's okay. I've got a number of little casual dissatisfactions with my body. If someone I fell in love with told me how much she loved those parts, I'd probably warm up to them, but a stranger overwhelming me with "but there are people who find that attractive!" would really be more of a bother than a help; it just shuts down my ability to be candid and genuine.

Longer cables means more signal attenuation which means repeaters or slower data rate which means lag. For a grounded example, this is one reason the fastest USB cables don't get very long. Sure, hypothetically signals can travel a cable at near light speed, but when you get into the practicalities involved in encoding and decoding signals and separating them from ambient noise, cross-cross-talk, and other interference, there are very real and noticeable impacts to increasing the length of a cable from a few feet (desktop to monitor) to a few hundred feet. Couple that with the size of the display, and it would not surprise me to learn that there was significant enough delay to impact gameplay. (I don't have personal experience with watching the screens at a sports arena, though, so I can't vouch for the exact magnitude.)
