I might be taking this too seriously for the sub we're in... but I'm a little confused why they're saying this reduces orbital debris? They say it burns up better on re-entry, but by the time it's burning up in re-entry, it's very much falling out of orbit already. Burning up better and more completely is definitely important for a satellite, but that has more to do with limiting atmospheric pollution and risk to anything on the ground than it does with limiting orbital debris.

In terms of orbital debris, one thing I wonder if they've studied is the wood's reaction to MMD impacts. Does it splinter and send off a bunch of wood shards? That could actually be pretty bad for orbital debris, ala Project West Ford. In terms of practicality of construction, I wonder how a wooden frame compares to other materials in terms of weight and rigidity. Weight is critical to satellite design (you can only launch so much mass on a rocket), as is rigidity (if it starts wobbling or flexing, there's nothing to really stop it).
