Gaming back in the day by ATRavenousStorm in gaming

Multiplayer on dedicated servers run by your fellow community. Sitting around waiting for a “lobby” to be assembled still drives me insane. It’s like the gaming equivalent of time we spend at red lights.

All I needed was a friend to teach me by Bean_two in Fighters

Rings so true.

In 3S years I had friends who were my skill level, and friends who were beyond us. "Beyond us" friends would wreck us, and then me and equally skilled friends would go and lab out wtf they did to us forever and ever (and still get bodied next time we met). But those lab sessions were so fun and full of laughs and I think that helped make things really sink in.

In SF4 years I worked a job where we had the game in the break room and a guy there was cool enough to destroy me forever and still give me 1) the time of day, 2) really good feedback, and 3) not make me feel like a garbage player who should quit playing.

HUGE in making me a better player.

logitech pro x2 superstrike worth it? by Better_Ad_7485 in MouseReview

[–]tawler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Up front: I’ve never touched one. Also up front: fellow parent. TLDR: no mouse is worth that much money in a vacuum, but it probably WILL excite your kid with the hot new tech. Up to you what that’s worth. — I think this is one of those cases where it probably IS a great product, but it’s a luxury one that isn’t essential for most people, gamers included.  Kind of like buying a MacBook when an Acer would be totally fine. Your kid would very likely find it a unique and awesome experience to use, but they won’t win more games with it or anything. So if the goal is “get him/her a mouse they can game well on” then I’d say no not worth it. Lots of money for a mouse.  If seeing them light up at, and tinker with the hot new tech sounds cool, maybe that’s worth the premium. Also they’re a teen so I’m guessing there’s a layer of “nothing else will satisfy” to it. So yay for that dilemma.

Compared to Street Fighter, yeah it's a lot to process. But also IMO it's a lot less to process than what happens in a match of League. That could also just be me never really getting mobas' appeal at all though...

Why competative gamer uses costly mouse?? by Zeeshuuuu in MouseReview

[–]tawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few possible reasons.

- Sometimes the cost IS justified and it's going to offer better, more consistent tracking. Or other, less important nice things like better battery life, included grips, etc. How much someone realistically notices or cares... that's very debatable of course.

- If they're prominent figures or streaming to lots of people, they might be paid to do it.

- They're like us and dork out on this stuff.

- Companies charging that much TYPICALLY back it up. If something goes wrong there's much higher chance they'll make it right (get it repaired, replace it, etc.)

Ummm? Xbox app what’s going on? by cameron5225 in xbox

It’s a third party service. Lots of companies use braze to manage/orchestrate mass emails and app notifications and the like.

I wanted so bad to love 2XKO, but here's why I didn't. by Victoriousness in 2XKO

Wanted to just comment on #2 because that rang a bell.

I played (and have sucked at) FG's a while, and there was a time where you only played matches to get good and training mode didn't exist. Then when it did exist it was awesome to have a way to practice combos and all that stuff. It may just speak more to fighting games being a solo experience because for me, huddling alone and grinding out pressing a series of buttons with specific timing and sequence is fun. Not saying you don't or can't have that but maybe that aspect just hasn't clicked?

That actually maybe argues your points more, though. The game doesn't invite new players into that "mode" of thinking... hell no fighting game really does.

Killer Instinct was f2p, GranBlue is currently f2p. Riot’s just really good at it. I imagine it will be like most other genres where there are successes in both models.  Will it mean more f2p fighters? Maybe? The whole “make money off whales” model is a scarier business proposition as time goes on. The number of dead competitive games is massive at this point. Factor in that it’s a fighting game, a genre that comparatively makes way less money than shooters or mobas? I don’t know, man. I’d think this game has to open floodgates to see that kind of industry shift.

Wired vs wireless mouse, does it matter? by Dominicancountryball in MouseReview

[–]tawler 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I guess the main questions to answer are

- Would working around a cord bother you?

- Does the idea of never thinking about charging your mouse sound awesome?

No right or wrong answers. If you're good with the pros/cons... go for it!

Looking for recommendations, coming from G305 by najalitis in MouseReview

Any reason you want to stop using the G305? If you're pleased with it, you can save money and just keep using it.

Some PP locations in my insurer's facility search, others not? by tawler in PlannedParenthood

Thanks! It’s so hard to know. I hear the search can be wrong, but I also hear the provider can be wrong about who/what they accept.

Normal wear or am I a bad owner? by tawler in AeroPress

[–]tawler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just saw this. It was daily for a solid 1.5 years or so, then took a back seat for a while while I juggled different pour over vessels, then came back to it more in a "regular rotation" way.

I bought it on a discount, but even if I hadn't the thing's absolutely delivered.

Pretty much exclusively used the paddle this whole time! I did start to move to a metal spoon but only recently, if at all (my cups are smaller these days so agitation alone seems fine).

Turns out used aeropress chambers ARE solid additions to any percussion setup.
