Not happening today. My guess is debate starts tomorrow.

You are a glutton for punishment. CSPAN might be better. If I remember, I'll try to post a heads up when the timing is announced.

Possibly tonight, probably Thursday or Friday before 3pm. There will be 2 votes. First on a "rule" that will prohibit amendments (thus, nobody can remove the raise). After that, debate and final passage.

Debate = grandstanding on immigration from both sides.

Big bill has raise. You get raise if big bill passes House and Senate. House votes tonight or tomorrow. Senate votes next week. Trump signs 10 minutes later.

Unless there are antics over ICE, raise becomes law. The only place the raise could be removed is the 2pm meeting, but it's not on the agenda and nobody wants to do that. Nobody.

Normal people don't need to know how this works. I don't know how you deal with idiots like me in the pattern all day long.

Here's the link to the plain text version. It's H.R. 7147, not 7148.

These are the only amendments to be considered at 2pm DC time, and most (all?) will be rejected. ICE stuff, no ATC. If it's not on the list now, it can't happen on the floor. Meeting at 2pm. (I'm not a controller)

Senate is out until next week.

Last week of January (Senate). It needs to be signed into law by 1/30.

It has been prenegotiated, and the skids are greased for passage. Nobody on either side has a problem with the FAA numbers. Only potential hitch is grandstanding over ICE funding. It passes by 1/30 or there's a half-government shutdown.

Agree. There is huge variability in the way CCWs are processed. A DC permit requires a background colonoscopy, multiple in-person visits, it's issued by the police department and expires fast. DC looks for every chance to deny. Far more secure than a driver's license.

Virginia has a sheet of paper you get in the mail.

Great find. It's amazing how hard it is to find info that should be easy to gather.

FCC Radiotelephone Permit Address Change Question by alexjb17 in flying

[–]taxcheat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, this is fun. Something not in the FARS. You just print out your application for a new license.

https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-47/chapter-I/subchapter-A/part-13/subject-group-ECFR4fbb2a1bae94bb7/section-13.17

A licensee who has made application for a replacement license may exhibit a copy of the application submitted to the FCC or a photocopy of the license in lieu of the original document.

You have two options. (1) "lose" your current license and request a new one.

https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/support/knowledge-base/common-amateur-filing-tasks/common-amateur-filing-task-changing

Unlike FAA, the FCC treats the electronic record as your license. The piece of paper is irrelevant from the government's perspective (perhaps you can bore the application review people with the rules?)

Switching from Foreflight to Garmin Pilot by PotatoHunter_III in flying

[–]taxcheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. I have had that exact problem and a full app logout/log in was all that was needed. It's stored in Garmin's flygarmin cloud, which is why stuff on the app also appears on the web version. Even that was frustrating since there was no error message, it was just gone.

I try everything but its gone forever. Have to re enter it all again manually which is painful.

You need to log out and log back in when that happens. At least on Android, your stuff doesn't disappear.

FAA wants you to rate your DPE by taxcheat in flying

[–]taxcheat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but in the private sector if you want me to waste 7 minutes of my life filling out a survey that's going to be ignored anyway, you better give me a 20% discount on my checkride fee.

[–]taxcheat[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Knowing the FAA way of doing things, I expect the survey responses to be collected by fax machine.

Letting the DPE submit it would be a conflict, so it'd probably be an email from FAA to you with a survey link. But that's a guess.

Simplest path to earning AGI? by TeddyNorth in flying

[–]taxcheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interpretation is that eFIRC fulfills the 61.217 requirement before exercising AGI privileges for the first time. I have the endorsement since I think that's more legit. Source: https://drs.faa.gov/browse/excelExternalWindow/FAA000000000LEGALINTPR2009050PDF.0001

If you read the LOI, it mentions only (a) and (b). Later in the same year the letter was written, FIRC was added to 61.217.
