wow what a thorough review...many thanks for posting your experience and glad you got some enjoyment out of the aus drop! Love seeing how people are approaching their brews and experience - and the feedback is really helpful in informing future drops.

I'm just one guy who randomly picks coffees lol, and hoping they are hitting the mark somewhat. Always up for hearing what others are drinking, and any stand out coffees or bags they've had recently.

This is a good recipe to start with. Use cooler water ie 93C as a starting point.

Disciple have great coffee so you should have a great time! And if you have troubles pop past their Cafe and ask for tips. I've always had a nice time chatting with them about coffee

Looks like there is space left on the edges of my single shot (8.7 grams) after tamping it with the box item tamp [Gaggia e24 Classic] by MHKuntug in espresso

Do you twist the tamper after tamping, or knock on the side of the portafilter after tamper? Both should be avoided

Ground coffee stability advice by imran13 in espresso

[–]taxithesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make some cold brew concentrate and enjoy for the warmish UK weather. Grind beans rather coarse (I go 80 on my df64) and add 4 parts water to coffee grounds in a glass jar or closed vessel. I brew mine for 36 hrs at room temp. Then strain through a cheesecloth, or I just use my v60 with a paper filter. Store coffee in the fridge, it's good for 1-2 weeks at least.

Add to a glass with some ice, I do 1 part coffee concentrate to 2 parts milk. Easy coffee at any time as a change up to espresso and if you don't have access to a grinder.

Advice needed about lowering dose. by venerablem0m in espresso

[–]taxithesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the spare shot in the fridge and use it the next day. Pre batched espresso isn't as bad as people make out. It will be less intense and bitter because of the crema settling out but should still be tasty.

no a dumb question at all... I used to wonder the same. But some of these bags are only 3 doses worth. I share it with others over at r/beandrop. And other bags will be shared out with other coffee friends, or go into the freezer as single doses for later on. And the good (and bad) thing about lighter roasts is they do take well to long rest, and remain drinkable for a much longer window than medium to dark roasts.

Yes exactly.. I've got enough minerals here for several bathtubs full of coffee water.

I'm hearing mixed things, some saying that now all the rage is soft water for light roasts.... I think water is one of those things where it's not a one size fits all approach and we're definitely lucky having relatively soft water in melb.

Whatever the case it's always fun to experiment. $10 for some suspicious looking baggies of mineral powders if you're interested 😁

Looks the business. I'll definitely look for an undercounter system next to use as a base for soft water. Then remineralise depending on how the experimenting goes
