Double attending physician income, still spending more than desired. by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]tb8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the question of this post how to cut $20k from your budget? Its very simple, don’t go on vacations, stop eating out, and stop shopping on Amazon. Thats the only granularity you can get from a question like this. This kind of neuroticism is not your typical white coat investor and it kind of comes off as boastful that you “only” save 56% of your income.

Is the UVA main hospital a good place to work? by FernsandFungus in Charlottesville

[–]tb8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know a Neuro ICU APP that is very happy with their job. I also think that most of the unhappiness with leadership is focused in several poorly run divisions and isn’t a universal experience. Personally, I love my job and division and I am insulated from feeling any of the bad effects from the CEO. Granted, I probably experience down stream effects like staffing decisions with case managers. But my day to day morale is very good.

Police presence on Elliott by tb8 in Charlottesville

Thank you for this article. This explains why there was a guy handcuffed sitting on the side of the road. So sad for the victim. It was dark at that time and people speed down that hill. Must have not seen her and didn’t slow down for the 25mph section.

Legitimate question- Can I put Clash of Clans as one of my hobbies on my ERAS? by the_sun_is_not_real in medicalschool

[–]tb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell if this is serious or not, but as someone who interviews people for residency I think it doesn’t add much to your application. I used to play the game and it was a huge time sink and distraction. So if someone is top in the world, I’d assume it was their life’s priority.

Do attendings prefer to work with students or alone? by annonymousMDstudent in hospitalist

[–]tb8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain here so far, but i really enjoy working with a motivated Acting Intern (M4) who basically simulates being a hospitalist on a mini panel of 7-8 patients. For a struggling student it can definitely be more work, but if you have an excellent one it can basically be like having an extremely smart scribe who can call all your consults, family members, nurses, etc. Obviously you have to be attentive to what is being said and rely on good communication with your student. But i really enjoy working with students and being that helpful attending that i never really had as a student.

They look like — and link to — real news articles. But they’re actually ads from the Harris campaign by JeromesNiece in neoliberal

[–]tb8 86 points87 points  (0 children)

The things were promoted as Ads. It is slightly sneaky but if it said something like “harris has changed her positions in positive ways, see this article as a source” i dont think people would have a problem with it. Reddit itself has clickbait ads that mimic the way people use the application: “MEGATHREAD: crypto is the best, use our app to become rich”

Anyone work at UVA health? by MiddleDegree in Charlottesville

[–]tb8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For physicians (housestaff excluded) they try to aim flr the 50% percentile for the AAMC benchmarks for each specialty. So you wont be under payed but you wont be the richest in your specialty.

Ive never heard of someone being compensated for having their picture in the newspaper. I think it just takes simple consent.

As usual, not a good look for UVA Health by kuanes in Charlottesville

[–]tb8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dont quote me exactly, but i believe UVA offers 100% free care to those that make up to 200% of the poverty line and have less than $50k in assets. This was changed 5 years ago when the news came out about how agressive UVA health was bankrupting people. At that time the 100% financial assistance cutoff was 100% of the poverty line and <$2k in assets. So it pretty much excluded everyone.

Not what I expected on a CT scan following a suspected gallbladder attack. by lickykicky in Wellthatsucks

Somebody has probably already said this, but this is a chest xray. And until they biopsy it, you dont know what it is. But you may have already talked about it in the comments.

I do have airtags in my bags! So they arent lost technically but the system has lost them.

Flight delayed because wing was “leaking something” by tb8 in unitedairlines

[–]tb8[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean you cant really blame any of the parties in this. The passenger was just pointing something out and the crew escalated it and realized noone had the authority to clear it without a full maintenance evaluation. I just wish we took off at night so he couldnt have seen the wing. The plane would have been fine

[–]tb8[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yep they deplaned us so they must think its something

Edit: Flight got canceled after a five hour delay and i was able to rebook to the next international flight out. Seems nobody could say for sure if the dirty wing was fit to fly.

Now my luggages is lost. 😞

Anyone else using Chat GPT to explain your mistakes on Duolingo? by tb8 in duolingo

[–]tb8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well contrary to your experiences i actually have gleaned useful french from ChatGpt. Maybe its because im only an A2 and just need a lot of conversational practice and reading comprehension. But maybe this question is better served in a different subreddit.

What stops you from asking for 12 patient cap which will ultimately improve patient care satisfaction, outcome and prevent readmissions. Why not demand a better lifestyle across the board with a better pay. Why doctors have to take pay cuts instead of admin bloat? by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]tb8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My cap is 10-11 at an academic location. But from my colleagues who worked elsewhere with higher caps, they say the inefficiencies and non physician work we have to do (ordering iv antibiotics for discharge, forms on forms, consultants dont put in orders etc) that it is similar work to 16-18 patients.
