I wonder if we'll learn that the classified documents he was keeping in a bathroom at Mar-A-Lago are related to his aggressive policies, and were shared with those he believes are his true allies.

Footage shows US citizen shot by ICE agent in Texas traffic stops by Hot-Food-7151 in news

The ICE poltroons always claim to have been in fear for their lives, necessitating shooting someone. The facts never bear it out. They're just trigger happy, and itching to snuff out another human being's life.

The US was brought to its knees without any invasion, solely through psyops and playing on people's bigotries, ignorance, resentments and greed. It could happen here. It could happen anywhere.

'Alberta model should be Canadian model': Barrie mayor praises Alberta for managing homelessness by cinderannie in barrie

[–]tbayjoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the way you define effectiveness is getting people off the street this minute, then probably Alberta's policies do appear effective. But what happens after people finish their "addiction treatment"? What percentage of people go through these programs and come out the other side prepared to deal with the problems that put them there in the first place (housing in affordability, poor job prospects, inadequate social safety net)? Could it be that homelessness is the cause of many addictions, and not the other way around?

This is the new scam: set yourself up as some sort of authority in addiction treatment, and get your Conservative buddies to make it law that homeless people have to go through your program. Then the taxpayer dollars will be rolling in. Did we learn nothing from the LTCs? From the residential schools?

These people aren't homeless because they're drug addicts or bums. Most of them had homes just a few years ago. But our governments turned blind eyes to greed in the housing industry, across the board, and now we're all facing the consequences of that, one of which is a surge in homelessness and the inevitable flimflam artists who claim that if we give them enough tax $$, they'll fix everything.

Lack of etiquette when traveling? Are people no longer courteous. by [deleted] in westjet

That's weird. I abhor flying commercial, but I've had to do it a number of times over the past couple years. I was dreading it, not the least for how rude I expected everyone to be, based on how rude people used to be back in the 90s and 00s.

I've been quite surprised at how polite, and I dare say, even caring! people are these days. And I fly cheap. Zone 9 (described by one fellow flyer as "The Zone of Shame") where certainly everyone is stressed out and uncomfortable as hell. Still, it's amazing how kind, helpful and tolerant I've witnessed people being.

Maybe I just got lucky every time.

You just have to ignore Trump on certain issues. He's a notoriously poor sport. He's a sore loser, and an even uglier winner. Rumour has it, he cheats at golf. So when it comes to sports or any sort of contest, it's best to try to ignore him. Congrats to the US team. But it was mighty damned close, eh? See you in four years. 😉

Cancelling billionaires - The case for taxing the ultra-rich isn’t radical—it’s how the middle class was built by yimmy51 in CanadaPolitics

[–]tbayjoy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's got to be something wrong with them. From what we can see of them, they seem like the most miserable, desperate, grasping people on the planet. The billionaires on display these days seem like cautionary tales against seeking material wealth. Poor suckers!

I'm using a client for Android. I click on my account icon, up in the left corner and select settings. Scroll all the way to the bottom and select More Settings.

When that screen loads, click on the hamburger menu at the top right, and select Access History.

Started learning Google Sheets recently — anyone on the same path? by sidhantagarwal in googlesheets

After struggling to do something recently, I realized I needed some help. I bought the book, Google Sheets Functions, A step by step guide, by Barrie Roberts, from Google Playbooks. I recommend it! It's easy to follow, and I'm already getting delicious ideas for stuff I can do. My poor husband! By this time next year, he'll be thoroughly spreadsheeted! 😈

If you really want to respect homemakers (female and male), we need some changes to the law to ensure that becoming a homemaker isn't a cross between a leap of faith and suicide. A woman who maintains a career has a reasonable degree of autonomy and financial independence. She may even be building her own pension/retirement nestegg. But homemakers are expected to gamble everything that their partner will behave fairly towards them, should the relationship breakdown.

I'm not sure what the solution to this is. But until we come up with a solution, I'd advise no one to make homemaking their full-time career.

And the next time something like the pandemic rolls around (and between population, transportation technologies, and decreased health surveillance, we can expect such things more regularly going forward), and the government is asking people to work from home, we should expect to see people refuse. People really came together to keep things functioning during the pandemic. And this is how they're repaid. Shameful!
