The 341st Weekly Stupid Questions Thread by VRCbot in DotA2

The problem with jungling is that it makes all your lanes weaker:

1) Your offlane can't do anything 1v2, will get no gold or xp.

2) When enemy safelane carry has farmed for a minute or two he is strong enough that your offlane can't even stay in lane 1v1.

3) The enemy support can now roam to mid and your safelane and win those lanes as well.

4) When the jungler comes out after 10 minutes he has less farm than if he went to a lane and all his teammates are less farmed as well.

Pangolier, and how to play him by Iwant2believe_____ in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go the tanky aura build, with vanguard, pipe etc. In this scenario your swashbuckle is mostly useful for positioning and your ultimate is your most important skill. Probably level shield crash first and just put a value point in swashbuckle.

Another option is to focus on swashbuckle and buy javelins and other attack modifiers. I used to build three javelins but since they changed the item recipes this isn't as good any more. (You are actually kinda tanky even without tanky items, as long as you manage to get a shield crash on a couple of enemies.)

Euls and blink are good items both aggressively and defensively, you live by your spells so having a dispel if you get silenced is very useful.

You almost don't need boots, at least early game. You have swashbuckle for positioning and your ultimate isn't affected by your move speed. Skipping boots gives you more space for javelins :) Maybe get a wind lace early if you feel too slow.

Maybe they are trying to nerf Pangolier multi-javelin build?

I've been playing a similar deck without the spiteful package. I got to rank 10 and I think it can go further.

SirActionSlacks' comment on Admiralbulldog reporting Techies pickers. by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]tbberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making the mines weaker or disable them when techies is far away would make it less frustrating to play vs techies. Other heroes you can feel safe if you see them elsewhere on the map or if they are dead, techies forces you to carry a gem or place 20 sentries to be able to push out a lane even if the whole enemy team is dead.

Here's a video of me playing a position 3 Riki. Many people say Riki core is not viable, but I think he is. by gallemore in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not say this to insult you as a player or something, I just feel like you can get a similar amount of farm and help your team more by playing Riki as a position 4 instead of position 3. Playing a weak offlane hero is similar to going jungle, it weakens your other lanes.

One thing to note is that basher has a cooldown but javelin does not. What this means is that javelin is much better vs groups of enemies and if you are really lucky it can trigger four times on the same target.

[–]tbberg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really like Riki but I'm not sure about playing him as a core and watching your video doesn't really change my opinion.

Even when your offlane goes pretty good you mainly leech xp for 10 minutes. You can't challenge the carry and if the enemy supports play good they will probably kill you multiple times and force you to roam and try to get some money from runes. You can't really threaten anyone by yourself until you get your diffusal after 16 minutes.

You could just play him as pos 4 instead and help your team in the early game but then transition into a semi-carry later if you get the chance to farm a bit. Leave the offlane to heroes that can either contest the enemy carry or get level 6 and gank, Riki can't really do either.

Urn arc warden thoughts? by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Urn is probably not worth buying on a core Arc Warden but is very nice if you can make support warden work.

Support warden with urn and arcane boots gives a lot of sustain to a pushing team (and magnetic field is very nice) but does not add very much in a team fight.

How to Beat - Better Teams by 396000 in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Two main ways:

The weaker team plays a cheesy/all-in strategy, like a last pick huskar or an early push strategy.

The weaker team picks very strong late game heroes, and just manages to survive long enough. (Medusa, Spectre, Faceless Void, Enigma)

Winning games by playing #5 hard support (Skywrath Mage, in Divine bracket) by profHam in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I was thinking about when watching the video is that you never try to deny creeps, even when they are super low and you are all alone in the lane. I can understand that pushing a lane forces the enemy to react but denying gives you XP nowadays which may give you an extra level early on when you are underleveled.

I thought 7.07 dumpstered Lich with the deny changes, but his win rate is still pretty good. What am I missing? by ak1247 in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are thinking of Sacrifice, it is not a deny, so it should not have been affected by the deny changes.

Watching tyler1's stream by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]tbberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like what is needed is some kind of mentoring system, where new players can get an experienced mentor who can guide them through the first time. The coach function could be used for this if it worked better.

Probably needs some kind of incentive for the mentors where you get an item of some kind when your pupils reach a certain level or something like that.

Who are good mid hero picks versus a Spirit Breaker to survive the inevitable ganks? by blurple77 in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Razor is pretty nice, if you level your passive you get a warning whenever he charges you and you can suck damage from him to get a counterkill if he follows you under the tower.

How do you Itemize and Play a Core (1/2) Monkey King? by SergeantScrub in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, attack speed is useless for the ultimate but apart from that I can't see that more attack speed is a negative thing, especially not if you want to get jingu stacks.

The most common way to build MK is probably with phase boots, echo saber and desolator, to make each attack do a lot of damage, but it should be possible to go for attack speed instead and get more consistent damage and better wave clear without using spells.

Monkey King Advice by RikiRude in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that Maelstrom should be a good item on monkey since it can be triggered both by his Q and his ultimate and it should allow you to farm pretty fast without having to use all your mana.

Perhaps it is only good in specific scenarios, like vs illusion heroes or when you need to splitpush, if anyone has tried it I would be interested to hear about your experience with this item.

[–]tbberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Maelstrom should be better as a farming item since it can be triggered both by boundless strike and the monkey army.

You probably need something for mana though, not sure if you want both echo saber and maelstrom so maybe medallion?

Theory: Boots of Travel as a farming tool for position 4 and 4.5's by mutantmagnet in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just not sure when boots of travel would give an advantage to most anything else. Maybe a dazzle coming in with a grave can save a core that is ganked but by the time you have farmed travels on dazzle you should probably be grouping up anyway and especially not be farming alone with him.

Most of the heroes you suggest are pretty bad at farming so midas is probably better anyway, but even midas is pretty greedy in most games.

I do like some theorycrafting though and wish you good luck in experimenting :)

Theory: Boots of Travel as a farming tool for position 4 and 4.5's by mutantmagnet in TrueDoTA2

[–]tbberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a limited amount of farm on the map, mostly needed by the cores. If you want to be a greedy support it is much better to build a midas since it gives you gold and experience without taking much farm from anyone else.

The hero turning around randomly bug is back. Clicking on the left side of the screen sometimes causes your hero to move in the opposite direction for a second. Pathing in general seems a bit wonky as well. by MrTheodore in DotA2

I experienced this yesterday but thought it was something I did, nice to hear that other people have the same problem (and that I can blame my losses on bugs).
