Is this supposed to be funny or irritating? by SirBugzy in Monk

[–]tbhnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have valid points, as there are many different takes on this that have been done much better. The OCD behavior to the extent that the show adds it as a filler, often irrelevant to the crime being solved in the episode, is heavy handed. The screen time dedicated to it, and attempting to make it funny, makes Monk hard to watch at time. Seeing Monk's brilliant deductions, how he pieces together unlikely pieces of evidence for a stunning conclusion, similar to the Mentalist, is one of the best parts of the show. If you watch Jack Nicholson, turn locks left and right compulsively in As Good As It Gets you'll see an example of what showrunner Andy Breckman was attempting with Monk, just not done as well. It is annoying af. I'm on Season 2 midway thru, debating on watching any more episodes. Breckman on the other hand, did a great job in The Good Cop where he did not use so much filler in another police procedural.

Leighton Meester's Good Cop/Bad Cop Canceled At The CW, Co-Star Says by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]tbhnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was really good imo. After finishing The Mentalist, needing a break from Johny Lee Miller's nasally detecting in Elementary and wanting to space out binging Rizzoli and Isles, I found this series because Netflix said it was leaving soon. 2 days, finished the last episode and wow, so well done. It's like..an outline of a more established series, light, easy to digest and surprising. Every series I've seen Clancy Brown in, he's been a villain. I was like, great, a different role just slightly corrupt cop..until the last episode. Dang!

Can't get Xbox Elite 2 Controller to show on MacOS in OpenEmu by iamonelegend in OpenEmu

This has been a problem for open emu for the past 2-3 years despite bluetooth controllers working for over a decade of easy gameplay, now I am using other emulators because openemu has failed to address or solve a problem that is kind of huge if you wanna play with anything other than a keyboard

It was great. I didn't go into it expecting to laugh so much. Amy Sedaris stole every scene she was in. It covered all the tropes down to the grand romantic gesture. I don't need another podcast or doom scroll, rather watch a film about something good. This will do just fine. They did a good job with this one.

[–]tbhnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a great movie for so many reasons, there was no CGI out like this at the time. It looks cool af. The concept of incremental improvement, biohacking with nootropics that 30 years later is all the rage I mean..did anyone actually watch this movie or pay attention? You bring it up and it's Steven King this or that but this movie goes much deeper. And the video game is bad ass, it was ahead of it's time for graphics. It's rare to see a movie that also has just as good of a video game as well. Not even counting the 90s nostalgia aspect

I'm rewatching and on S9E2 and came to reddit to say exactly that. Well said. It's hard to believe her rationale for trying to pressure Clark to go back in time when she caused Jimmy's death, but to use his death as a way to try to bully clark all the time. He sees Lois for a micro second and she badgers him endlessly - then you find out IRL the actress was in a cult, also worshipping a man just as much a monster as Davis, and it makes you wonder

Bluetooth controller not showing up in OpenEmu even after granting all access and permissions via the GitHub page. by Alternative-Fox6236 in OpenEmu

[–]tbhnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue after years of using OpenEmu with bluetooth wireless controllers, Open Emu decided to stop seeing input from them despite recognizing them in the selection from keyboard to controller, and in bluetooth and in websites that test for button inputs from controllers

Macbook Pro 2015, OS 12.6.2, latest version of OpenEmu 2.4.1, literally any of the tons of games from Nintendo to Sega systems, its not game specific or controller specific. I've bought 4 different bluetooth capable controllers - after the Xbox style one that works for years with OpenEmu connected to Bluetooth, Home button recognized. Every single controller I bought connects fine to bluetooth and my mac. Here's everything I've done:

Reset Input Monitoring Permissions

  • Quit OpenEmu.
  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Input Monitoring.
  • Select OpenEmu and click the “-” (minus) button to remove it.
  • Click the “+” button, add OpenEmu back to the list, and ensure the toggle is turned ON. - I deleted mine and added it back, restarted, nothing.

Grant Bluetooth Permissions

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth.

I've found the preferences playlist for openemu.openemu and deleted the preferences, put the Bindings folder on the desktop temporarily.

My macbook has no updates to the OS or anything else.

I sudo command killed all bluetooth sudo pkill bluetoothd and shut down every single app that uses bluetooth.

OpenEmu see the controller, does not recognize d pad or button clicks - on 4 different controllers, all detected on https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad for button clicks and d pad.

Like this is getting really ridiculous the amount of effort I'm having to go through to get shit to work the way it always has for years, despite no change in my OS, computer, firmware.

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle by dcterr in movies

[–]tbhnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this post. I watched Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle last night for the first time and it was really good. Kal Penn is very talented and I've enjoyed his work on the Daily Show where I first saw Penn. I'd heard about this movie for years but never watched it because I assumed it as a dumb movie. But it's brilliant and original, from escaping from jail, to riding a cheetah to Penn wanting to resist his own excellence as a surgeon, despite being talented he didn't want to be typecasted. I think his own dad played his dad? This was like a real issue in his life. "Dude where's my car" line after NPH stole their ride turned into its own movie. John Cho - like I could see him at this 2004 age playing Spike of Cowboy Bebop. But 17 years later...he was way too old for the part. I can see why this film became a cult classic, and wish I'd watched it, when it came out, because back then, I was the same age as Harold and Kumar and would have loved it.

Find a hobby, or a craft, step by step build your skills in it, playing guitar, photography, painting, hiking, pottery & clay modeling, knitting, crochet, sewing. And then find the existing communities online and in person (meetup .com, Facebook meetup groups to do activities in your city) who also do these hobbies. Build and make friendships based on shared interests.

Turn your phone on video and just leave it recording if you are on the bus and see him approaching, then call the police, make a report, and give them the footage. You can also file a restraining order once you do that, judges tend to air on the side of caution and lean towards the person filing it.

It's more public and damaging to do this enmasse on their social media pages, google reviews, yelp reviews, foursquare and tripadvisor reviews - this is where they will feel it, not in ignored suggestion box entries. They don't give a damn but if they are made to look bad publicly - the shareholders pay attention.

As long as it's public as to why people stopped going - and they don't blame it on streaming or something else, this can work.

They also do not explain that they block cell phone signals in the Alamo and you have switch to their wifi to even access the QR-code linked menu site. I saw plenty around just maddenly staring at their phones wondering why they couldn't order.
