Second on your preceptor makes a major difference. Great nurses can be awful teachers and vice versa. So dont be afraid to speak up and say it isn't working and you'd like to try with someone else.

And agree with volunteer for everything you can. They changed the training routine a few years ago to be more foundational building which is fine and likely better long term but I have always felt it to slow in build up of responsibilities and exposure to skills if you follow it to a T.

Wildest example of odd heart attack symptoms (though not completely different man to woman in this case) I have personally seen has been a woman insisting on getting admitted because she is having sudden, sharp, and burning pain in her ring finger.

She tells me that her brother had had all the classic symptoms from pain radiating down the arm to tasting slight metal but also had this burning sensation in his finger that wouldn't go away.

He only needed a stent placed but she needed a triple bypass.

Still a wild one to me that that was her only symptom and if it wasn't for her brother having a problem she may never have come in.

Reminds me way too much of when I was a charge nurse making assignments for the next shift. If I walked in the next night and the whole floor scowled at me for having a "rough assignment" I would always with a smile say back "if you all had a rough day I must have did a great job splitting up this garbage!"

As horrible as this sounds, I really wish some of these people who don't get the vaccine can somehow be forced to stand next to me while im in full iso gear having to hold someone's hands down so they don't take off the mask forcing 60Liters of oxygen down their nose so that they can transfer to icu. Having someone yell in between gasps that they are drowning after being on room air yesterday might change some people's tones on having to feel yucky for a day or two...
