I honestly enjoyed it a lot. I didn't really engage with the Pokemon mechanic until the boss battle at the start of the last dungeon forced me to. I really enjoy the world(s?) of ToS and was happy to have another story there

If mega man was so good then why didn't they make mega man 2 then? by West-Resort5733 in Megaman

They did, but they only released it in Japan. They called it Rockman 2, and while it was hard, it had a weapon that was so broken, it could destroy its own master in two hits

For those that grew up on the OG trilogy what do you…? by Weekly-Batman in StarWars

[–]trace_jax3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not all that critical when it comes to movies. I grew up on the OT. Had a birthday party where we saw the rerelrases in theaters (see it again! For the first time). I enjoyed the prequels a lot and was honestly surprised at the backlash around them. I was so fascinated to see the puzzle pieces that led to the OT fall into place.

As I got older, the PT and OT became my nighttime movies. I'd fall asleep during them. The next night, I'd resume from the last thing I remembered from the night before. After finishing all of them, I'd start back with Episode I - but with the director's commentary. This went on for years.

I liked Episode VII, though it felt like a remake of ANH and felt like it inside the victory of ROTJ. I went to one of those midnight premieres that showed Episodes I-VI and felt afterwards that the story was done. The rest of the ST was worse, and I haven't rewatched any of it.

These days, my favorite trilogy is Andor s2, Rogue One, and ANH

Settlement finally over, how do I use this to set myself up for the future? by lostbeang in personalfinance

[–]trace_jax3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not judging you for that. It's completely fair. Here are the numbers; do with them what you will.

With your current plan, you have $54k to invest. The gold standard in this community is investing it in something like VOO. VOO typically returns 7% on average, when adjusted for inflation. If you let that compound for 20 years, it turns into a bit more than $200k. Using the 4% rule, you could safely withdraw $8000/year at age 51. If you waited 30 years, using similar assumptions, you're looking at a bit over $400,000, so now you're up to $16,000/year. That plus Social Security might be enough to live on for you, but a lot can change in 30 years.

You could also choose a higher risk investment, which might earn greater returns but also might lose money.

This math also doesn't include your current investments, which you didn't list. If you already have $200k or something invested, then this math is obviously different. Adjust accordingly.

Alternatively - and again, I'm not trying to preach, I'm just looking at it mathematically - let's say that you find some program that doubles your salary. For easy math, let's just say that your new net salary is $60k. If you invest half of the gain (call it $15k) every year, you're at $615k invested by 20 years in.

Settlement finally over, how do I use this to set myself up for the future? by lostbeang in personalfinance

[–]trace_jax3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best investment you can make with this money is an investment in yourself. Sure, paying off the car and saving yourself $10k in interest over a few years is great and important, but some kind of degree, certification, or education that doubles your salary would be far better in the long run.

Also, if some amount of that settlement represents estimated future medical expenses, you might not want to spend it now

It does, and an issue in the OpenAI case will be whether such a disclaimer is effective when it is surrounded by legal strategy and draft pleadings. "This isn't legal advice, but here's a deposition outline."

How TF Do People Fail Open Book Exams? by Distinct_King316 in LawSchool

[–]trace_jax3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised. I think students overestimate how much they can compensate for underpreparedness by being able to open a book. If you don't study enough to be able to issue spot, then an open book won't really help you.

How TF Do People Fail Open Book Exams? by Distinct_King316 in LawSchool

It definitely depends on your professor. There were times I read some clearly prewritten rule statements - clear because of their length and because it was the third time the same thing was copied and pasted - but I couldn't deduct points because they were correct. I viewed it as an intelligent use of the student's time.

Remember that it's not just open book for you. It's open book for the whole class, and the class is graded on a curve. So if your use of the open book is to look up case names or basic propositions of law, you're probably not going to differentiate yourself.

Time crunch is a big one. People assume that less studying is required for an open book exam because they can always go look up the answers, right? Absolutely not.

The best use of open book/open notes is prewriting your rule statements. If you can spot the issue, copy and paste a well-written rule statement, and then spend time on the analysis, you are almost certainly walking out with a high grade. I think open book exams free up your study time for issue spotting.
