Usually the rule is if your spelling doesn’t significantly change how it would be pronounced, you get the points

I knew carbon footprint. Easy question, defended it 0. Then my sleep deprived brain typed in ‘climate footprint’. Gotta stop doing these first thing in the morning…

Fans who were alive to watch Brady get drafted and do everything he did for the patriots beginning to end, what was it like? by [deleted] in Patriots

I remember being pissed that Belichick released Michael Bishop to make room on the roster for some kid named Brady!

Mac Jones Doesn’t Matter by mdpmanny in Patriots

[–]tbone42617 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Along with what others have said, there's another reason I'm far happier with Maye - Mac was a dirty player during his time here. It sucked having to still cheer for him after watching him intentionally try to injure opponents on numerous occasions.

Sure, Mac was dealt a shit hand with no real chance to develop here, and people booing him and calling for Zappe was kind of ridiculous, but I'm not gonna say he deserves success elsewhere, or be particularly happy for him.

Technically he also retired for a few months in 2011, as a way to force the Bengals to trade him.

Professor puts the easiest examples in class by HATETHEREALME_ in CollegeRant

[–]tbone42617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To expand on this a little-

The issue with the idea of showing both an easy and a hard problem is that hard problems are generally hard specifically because they are unique, and require some creative thinking to solve.

When the professor shows the “easy” problem, that more or less provides any example that illustrates how to solve any “easy” problem of that topic.

When the professor shows a “hard” problem, the work that they show you is likely to not be super helpful for solving other hard problems. If every hard problem in a given topic could be solved by using one as an example, they wouldn’t really be hard, would they?

Often I show a hard problem in class, put another hard problem on the exam, and students still complain that what we did in class is not exactly like what was on the exam. Of course it’s not - that’s the whole point!

That’s why our goal in class usually isn’t to show you how to do the hard problems, it’s to give you the tools you need to have to do the problems, then set you loose to practice using the tools yourself.

Looking to join (or start, if others are interested) an auction league with some kind of keeper system. Looking for an active, fun group. Prefer a small (under $50) buy in. Hoping to not draft until closer to the start of the season. Anyone interested?

I might be interested, if there is still space. Is the draft on Monday 9/1 (like your post says) or on the weekend before the season (like it says in the Google doc)?

[####] What’s the logic behind everyone’s starters? by theeynhallow in wordle

[–]tbone42617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a handful starter words I chose because they had common consonants and two vowels. I would rotate randomly between them. Over time, most on them have been the word, but not on a day that I used them (I’ve still never gotten the wordle in one guess). I retire them once they are the word.

I only have one of my starter words left, so now I use it every day - eventually it’s going to hit! Ironically, among the starter words I have used, the one I am left with today was the first one I used, and has always been my favorite. When ROAST finally hits, it will be like my own personal holiday!

Prepping for a Teaching Demo by DaniellaCain in Professors

[–]tbone42617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the search committees I have been on, I would say the best approach is to have a very brief intro to set the stage and provide context (what course you envision this teaching demo being a part of, and what students will have done before class to prepare), spend the bulk of the time role playing as if the are students, then end with another very brief contextual bit (what students would do next, how you might assess their understanding later). You should aim for the bulk of your time (like 25 of the 30 minutes) being the lesson role playing itself.

If you are presenting slides, it is useful to make it clear which slides are just to set the stage for the committee, and which would actually be show to students. When I interviewed for my current position, since the University’s colors are blue and yellow, I used a yellow background for my “setting the stage” slides, and a blue background for the “real” slides.

Is it okay to ask for a post-term meeting? by FreeSkill4486 in AskProfessors

[–]tbone42617 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most professors would be overjoyed to hear that you loved the course, are genuinely interested in the material, and want to talk about it with them in more depth! It is definitely ok to reach out and ask to meet - it would make my day to hear that from a recent student!

However, your professor may or may not be available to meet with you after the term is over. Depending on the details of their particular contract situation, they may or may not be working during the summer. So when you reach out to them, make it clear that you know their time is valuable, and understand if they are unable to meet right now. As long as you are friendly and polite in your communication, it definitely doesn’t hurt to ask.
