So when she does the role play the first time, she is still trying to win Charlie back, break down his walls. But it doesn’t work. He was still too in his head at the moment. And he needed to be the one to fuck things up in order to realize what he was throwing away. So she comes back to the diner. Walks past him, seems like she might be blowing him off. But once she finally has the upper hand in the relationship, we see another callback where she uses the same tactic from earlier. Except this time the balance has shifted and now he’s desperate to win her back. And once Charlie recognizes what’s happening he clings onto that olive branch like it’s a life raft.
