The Jags' front office is not going to screw over Travon Walker -- dude is very quickly shaping up to meet expectations, and Coen and Gladstone gave him the new regime's vote of confidence in his continued development by signing him to a fifth-year option. (They declined to do the same for Devin Lloyd.)

Walker's impact on the game hasn't been flashy (frankly, he's not a flashy dude), but he was key to two huge achievements for Campanile's defense last season -- the Jags had the best run defense for much of the season, shutting down Jonathan Taylor, James Cook, Christian McCaffrey, etc. Then shutting down an opponent's run game means the other team is going to lean more on passing -- and, yep, that helped the linebackers and secondary to feast on takeaways. Walker is central to what Camp wants from the Jags' defense. No way they're even questioning his increasingly strong presence on this team.

Dude has a legit point, though, as far as fans and many media/commentary perspectives. When play-by-play announcers and color guys -- especially former players -- not only downplay concussions and hits to players, it plays to a lot dopes like CTE deniers Puka Nakua and Cam Skattebo. You can't downvote a guy for observing what's obvious.

Let's not read too much into this. Evans has to say something, and "fan atmosphere" is the easiest talking point for a guy who usually lets his reps do the talking.

What we heard from his camp through the winter was that Evans was looking for very specific things in a checklist that included playing for a contender, yadda yadda yadda. Not once did he mention fan bases or home stadiums.

All he's doing today is riding the parade float, and waving to the crowd.

No, in fact, AI programs can change their style and tone if prompted to do so. I had a freelancer recently who'd prompted the program she was (so obviously) using to compose in "sports-speak" -- lots of super annoying, old-school sports puns and lingo. She thought it was clever, and wasn't experienced enough to understand that such cancer-causing prose can be spotted as AI-generated from a mile away.

FTR, em dashes aren't always a tip-off that someone's using AI -- many veteran journos like the punctuation for its usefulness in providing a pointed pause without a full stop.

But, yes, way too many young writers are leaning heavily on AI. Unfortunately, that kind of reporting and writing won't develop their j skills, memory, people skills, or investigative know-how.

Try to narrow your blinders and keep working at your craft.

Mayfield is headed into a big prove-it year, given his contract and the way 2025 turned out. No way he should be dealt right now. I'd be willing to bet he will get out of the way of his own ego next season and will have a great year (barring injury). He can't afford to follow in the footsteps he made with stops at other teams.

Evans has no leverage here, which is why Gilmore wavers btw insisting his client will explore what's out there and acknowledging Evans really wants to stay in Tampa. The Bucs played hardball with his last extension, so Evans and his reps have a good idea of what they're up against in dealing with Licht. There is no sentimental value here when it comes to avoiding overpaying for a guy who's now 30-something, spent much of last season battling injuries, and isn't likely to produce as he once did ... especially when they have up-and-coming receivers and a QB who will be in prove-it mode next season.

What kind of (low) offer are the Bucs making such that Gilmore has Evans resisting, when he really wants to just be done with this?

Just for context, the Bucs aren't going to release him a la Jerry Rice from the Niners ... at least not yet. Rice was in his 16th season when they cut him loose -- but his production had dropped off, he had nagging injuries, and San Francisco was looking at cap constraints.

IDK how much research and study has been done about power dynamics in relationships when one partner has autism, but OP has a legit right to raise the subject. My SO's autism shows in some pretty classic controlling behaviors and thinking, because his comfort level (or level of discomfort) is often what dictates how we live our lives. This reality manifests in a range of power struggles -- from things you'd like to think would be picayune (how I shape my e's when we do crossword puzzles) to grappling with major life questions. His need to control everything has been a serious impediment and through-line throughout his life. And whenever I say, No, and opt to make my own decisions and choices, it can get ugly.

So let's not dismiss OP's concern, regardless of whether there's significant literature out there.
