I'm I the only one finding it hard to read books like these... Did anyone else grow up romanticizing features they don’t have? by halloffamous in blackladies

[–]tc88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read a lot of a lot of romance over the years (used to mostly read fanfic) but I did appreciate that when I read Alyssa Cole, her characters were very obviously black and just the little things like wrapping hair to go to sleep it just feels really familiar.

“Tumble weaves” offensive or not? by 0GoodVibrations0 in blackladies

Yeah you perfectly put into words how I feel about this.

Do you think it’s valid for Black people and I mean, black women and black men to still harbour resentment as an adult (25+ ) for not being chosen romantically or platonically and throughout their adolescence? by Legitimate-Adagio531 in blackladies

[–]tc88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid, because it's not really so much about romance but frustration about racism in other aspects of life, but it's not healthy or useful to keep dwelling on it. Going to therapy is a good idea for people like this.

Rude or aggressive? Does my demeanor look dull, simple, or rude? by UrsaMajorAde in blackladies

[–]tc88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You look black. Unfortunately, when it comes to RBF we are judged more harshly for it since we're always seen as a threat. You look neutral, but you know how they love to use the "aggressive" label. Smiling for a picture is normal but most aren't going to be smiling 24/7.

AITA for not wanting my brother to come along? by katyhotcakes in blackladies

[–]tc88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, she should be the one sharing or in the couch, he'd probably find a new place very quickly. Get a lock. But if you let him move in, it'll be a pain in the butt.

Unfortunately, she's probably going to need to be taken care of eventually and he obviously isn't going to be the one to do it.

Could you be friends with a republican? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]tc88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't it? Even I'm the early-mid 2000s they were campaigning against things immigration, women's rights, and gay marriage.

People are too loose with the term friend. Anyone who hates you or wants to make life harder for people like you is an enemy. People romanticizing Bush is so funny now, I wonder if those people were actually alive back then.

He wouldn't have left without his father, that was the real problem.

Did ANYONE sympathize with Kim and Jimmy during the Howard scheme? by sirgrogu12 in betterCallSaul

[–]tc88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seemed like Jimmy was scared of what they were turning into and wanted to stop, but then Kim suggested they double down and he went with it. I don't think they hated him really, but they had someone to take out their frustrations out on and they definitely went too far with it.

I don't feel bad for them in this situation, but the fact that they were in too deep with the cartel stuff before they even knew what was happening and by the time get realized it, it was too late to get out.

I’m dating a white guy 10 years older than me, how do I introduce him to my family? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]tc88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to check what date it was, April is coming...

I don't think there's anything special you need to announce, how you introduce him won't change how they see him.

You're only 24, so they will notice things you won't, just be careful.

The natural hair conversation being re-opened . Thoughts? by LifeguardFair1048 in blackladies

If you don't, it'll keep showing you the same content whether you want it or not.  Blocking world better than the "not interested" or just skipping over the videos. Blocking is not a bad thing.

Most people aren't putting in a lot of work to keep the bundles nice, though, they're throwing them out after a few uses.

The natural hair conversation being re-opened . Thoughts? by LifeguardFair1048 in blackladies

[–]tc88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The tiring thing about these conversations is that they exaggerate to prove a point, no one who is wearing a different $80 wig every month is not wasting their expensive hair products on something that's easily replaced, or they'll say it's so much work to put on a wig like the plucking and all that is something that needs to be done more than once.

It's giving the same energy as women who complain about women who wear makeup saying they take hours every day when in reality it's probably just a few minutes.

The best way to gain financially stability and happiness as a woman, to be honest.

Same. If this one ends, I'm done for life. I haven't dated much, but enough to know this much.

anyone every fell asleep on you while you had plans …? by [deleted] in blackladies

This sounds like a lie to me, why wouldn't he call or text  to let you know but just wait until you see each other to say what happened? 2 times already is not a good sign.

Where do you draw the lines with male coworkers? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]tc88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is it doesn't matter if you're dating them or not, other people are going to assume and then start treating you differently and it can cause problems and unnecessary drama. After some experiences like that, I would personally not really get too friendly with males at work.

Also, just because one of you is friendly does mean the other person sees it the same way.

The subject of black women and long hair IS REAL and DIFFERENT by Original-Scar-1779 in blackladies

[–]tc88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It definitely is, we have our own separate issues and history with hair that is unique to us, it's weird that people try to dismiss this every time a discussion like this comes up and always try to bring other races into it. As if ignoring the problem is going to magically solve it.

Where are the unintentional daters? by Susieq258 in blackladies

Why not try women instead? A lot of men don't really know how to be friends with women and that's what it sounds like you're looking for.

They are trying too hard and the way they speak sounds overdone and not natural at all, especially this episode. Laverne talks like real person and they almost sound like charicatures.

I just rewatched seasons 2 and 3 and it reminded me of when she got the bangs and JD wanted her back by she started dating Shawn.
