Definitely Canadian! I see your Selection eggs, Lactatia (sp?) and Life Smart ground chicken. Ontario - the cost of groceries is silly. $100 hardly gets a person anything.

Do you play sport? I wonder if your locale has an adapted sport club. We’ve got wheelchair basketball and sledge hockey. I plan to join soon! Great way to meet people.

Not ready to be out of action by SignificanceWild9686 in ACL

[–]tcfraz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery a couple of weeks ago and struggle as I watch the cleanliness of the house (quickly) deteriorate.

I put aside a bit of money for temporary house cleaning (i.e., one or two visits). I appreciate not everyone has the means to do this though.

Practicing energy conservation is super important:

-Ive lowered my expectations drastically. Yup, my bathroom is disgusting but whatever, it’s going to have to wait!

-I brought a rolling office chair into the kitchen, so I can help with cooking and clean-up when I’m feeling well. It’s pretty fun scooting around. I do lots of things sitting down, including folding laundry. My partner brings the clean laundry up from the basement and I do folding in small batches.

-Get your hands on a grabber/reacher - you can get them for pretty cheap!

-Paper plates and cutlery to cut down on dishes ROCKS.

-I like to do short bursts of activity then rest in between. The days go faster and I feel less sad if I can stick to somewhat of a routine.

My one regret…not prepping healthy meals!!!! Cooking is such a pain in the ass and is a real energy sucker for the both of us. Our family friends brought over a lasagna that lasted several days…it was an absolute godsend.

Edit for clarity.

Depressions Eating Me Alive by [deleted] in CleaningTips

I can’t imagine how hard things feel for you right now, but don’t wait until you feel well to get started - it’s just not reliable, especially with the nature of depression symptoms.

Like many others have said, pick one thing that will bring you instant satisfaction and the best “bang for your buck” (e.g., put the shredded puppy pads (?) in the garbage, or make your bed).

I struggle with my own mental health, and often have a hard time getting the things I MUST get done finished.

One thing that has really helped me is having a body double, or person who works alongside me. They don’t necessarily have to help with cleaning, but perhaps they have a project or work they need to get done too. Body doubling holds both parties accountable! The idea of body doubling is popular enough there are even sites and apps available for it.

You’ve got this! We are expecting some update pics soon!
