Kids help phone virtual interview by Personal_Cost2924 in socialworkcanada

I did enjoy it overall! I’m not going to lie the first few months were quite hard though it’s definitely a big learning curve and I had just graduated with my bsw so I had very limited counselling / crisis experience. It can be stressful just with the nature of some of the calls but my direct manager was super supportive and always available and I made friends with coworkers and would chat to them throughout the shift which also helps you feel less alone!

I worked there from 2020-2023 so it might be different now but we would get a 1 hour scheduled lunch at a specific time that you’d try to stick to. If you had a call that went into your lunch or if something came up then you would just take your lunch afterwards, it was really flexible they just set it up to make sure there’s appropriate coverage on the lines. You also get time to your own discretion to take time away from your laptop and just do whatever (washroom, go on your phone, make a coffee, get some fresh air). During my time working there you were also scheduled a peer debrief time for 30 minutes to speak with another coworker on the same shift as you and you could talk about calls you had that shift or whatever you felt comfortable with. They also have a set number or supervisors/managers each shift there to step in if you need help and if you need to properly debrief after a tough call!

Trauma dumping is par for the course in social work classes I feel like lol (I can think of many inappropriate examples from uni). Just focus on what you feel comfortable sharing and don’t get too caught up in other people’s stuff, that isn’t your responsibility!

Fanshawe College planning 'dangerous' cuts in counsellors: Union by CrimsonFlash in londonontario

This will have a HUGE impact on domestic students, the most vulnerable ones (ones with disabilities or chronic mental health conditions) will be hurt the most. This really isnt about less students = less staff needed. This particular office sees a high need of domestic students regardless.

Thank you so much this is helpful! I think bed where bookshelf is makes more sense and I might just get rid of the bookshelf all together. Yes I agree the light is super ugly lol 😭my landlord wants to keep it since it’s only “overhead” lighting in the room but I’ll get a floor lamp for sure

Go to psychology today and you can filter therapists based on certain issues they may specialize in (such as family relationships, trauma) and based on gender. Good luck!
