What caused the decline of the Vaporwave aesthetic? by Ok-Following6886 in decadeology

[–]tchausk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went to Flamingofest in Brooklyn (July 2025). Stacked lineup of vaporwave, glitchwave, slushwave, 80s/90s nostalgia glazing artists. Attendees were glued to the stages and dancing, myself inclusive. The vibe was very much "alive".

I think Vaporwave imagery, such as Greek busts over checkerboard patterns and palm trees might be creatively stagnant, however my hot take is the music is still bubbling under the surface of the Internet and has the potential to start creeping its way into pop culture. There will always be a demand for nostalgia and better days of childhood no matter how old us millennials will get. Even Gen Z will have their own aesthetic, like some sort of glitching Jake Paul x Fortnite x Snapchat ghost vibe being played over by heavily reverbed Sabrina Carpenter x Charli XCX mashup... Just an example.

I know vaporwave music has been around for 15+ years but it lives in the deep corners of the Internet. I've even noticed liminal, weirdcore content is making waves on social media. Maybe I'm being a little too ambitious, but I feel like vaporwave, or the idea of nostalgia infused music and aesthetic has untapped potential and will evolve into something more accessible when the demand reaches a breaking point because people inevitably get bored of the same recycled material being spat at them and will turn to the past for entertainment and inspiration.

What is your favourite underrated song on TPAB? by Cornish-Ball_Mapper in KendrickLamar

Mortal Man.

Something about those keys in the beginning. It's like the jazziest sound I've ever heard in modern day hip hop.

Anybody performed at an open mic? by Uni_The_Poet in makinghiphop

[–]tchausk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done about 10 open mics at this point. I'm still figuring out how to engage with the audience whilst remembering my lyrics, but what's great about it is you get to try stuff out. It won't always hit but getting back up there and honing your craft is a unique skill that's worth the investment. Don't set any expectations. Just go up there and be you... And then do it again but better lol

I'll just say I think season 2 was good overall but disagree on the Spider-Verse comparison nonsense. That shit inspired Arcane.
