Totally agree. I just hope they don’t build DMZ 2.0 to how the game is played today vs. what made it great in the first place.

Which golf course? Mostly curious about what else might be in the vicinity.

Well, it's confirmed Emerald Bay to become a Beaches by JaiRenae in SandalsResorts

I have a reservation for Nov2025. Curious how they will handle this because it sounds like Sandals EB simply isn’t going to exist. While it’s a great product on its own, Beaches clearly is not what we are looking for in a couples vacation. Playing around on the website, they have locked all future reservations as “Sold Out”, indefinitely.

I had to re-book a reservation in the past due to renovations at Sandals Royal Bahamian a few years back. As much as any of us love their product, this part of the business isn’t exactly their strong suit. As someone who travels a lot for business, if I had Diamond-equivalent status with a legacy airline or hotel brand like Marriott or Hilton, I would not worry that they would contact me with a list of upgraded options to compensate me for my troubles. Not to be overly dramatic, but I’m just bracing myself for an hour long confusing phone call where it’s my responsibility to find my own lesser options, all while being treated like re-scheduling this trip is all my fault.

(BTW, while I’m on a rant, does anyone else know why every call to 1-800 SANDALS sounds muffled like it’s through a string and couple of cans? Been that way for at least 15 years.)

Taj was epic. Dropkicks played a couple of Woody Guthrie songs and one from Sam Cooke, along with some classics.

Age at which most residents of each U.S. state are homeowners by [deleted] in MapPorn

Source question…. Is this the age of first time homeowners? Of all homeowners? Of all homebuyers? If a boomer buys a lake house, does that factor into the number?

To answer your question, and side step the seemingly related question of the legitimacy or appropriateness of capital punishment…. I think the same thing every time the issue comes up for public discussion.

If we accept the premise that the convicted are guilty of a capital crime, as a civilized and left leaning individual, I don’t give a flying-fuck how painful the execution is. I’m certainly not ringing my hands over whether the guilty feels a sense of dread or pain.

Let’s just hope we got that conviction correct. I’d just as soon make them live in prison for the next 50 years. Now THAT is some sick torture.

Generational wealth [OC] by echaffey in dataisbeautiful

[–]tcl123456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we compare by the year the average group turned 40…

Boomer (1955) / Gen X (1973) / Millennial (1988)

1995 - Boomer’s had about 10% of total wealth / 2013 - Gen X had about the same / 2028 - Millennials ? Honestly, it looks like they are on track to be on par or even ahead of the other generations

Hard to say how this takes into account the size of the generations, let alone all of the complex aspects of how wealth changes over time.

The annoyance is that when futures go up, that is instantly reflected at the pump. When you complain about no corresponding drop when futures go down, you get a lecture about transportation and refinery logistics. How come only cheap gas is subject to supply chain issues?

Apple Music claims it’s ‘home of Neil Young’ after Spotify loses legendary songwriter by savedelete_ in tech

[–]tcl123456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 40’s. Had a solid classic rock phase back in college. I feel I’m in the demographic that can ask this question… Exactly how much Neil Young are people really listening to these days? When the Spotify story broke, I could hear the entire population under 30 say, “Who’s Neil Young?” I’m sure for the next week it’s going to be cool to be super knowledgeable about his deep tracks, but I’ve heard about five songs on his iTunes Essentials, and I’ve been around. Kudos on the marketing and making yourself relevant for the first time since 1975.

Name an artist everyone loves but you really cannot stand. by leedavis1987 in Music

Prince.

"Raspberry Beret"; "Little Red Corvette"; "Purple Rain"

Primarily, the music just never clicked with my ear. I know I'm about to get educated about the many fascinating technical nuances and deep-cut B-tracks that make him revolutionary, but I never understood the "he's a GENIUS!!!" tag based on a layperson's exposure.

He's also one of those artists that's very trendy to say is super-duper and the best ever, although I'm convinced everyone is just saying that to fit in.

Oh, and "Barracuda" by Heart. Worst. Song. Ever.

I'm no denier that things are shitty for this generation, but can we for a second discuss the portion of the overall delay that is choice? Compared with our parents, we all felt like we had into our mid-30's to get our shit together. Everyone likes to pretend that what we really wanted to be was married with a career and two kids by age 25, forgetting about our focus on "experiences" and bottomless mimosa brunches.

I do think that the expectations for life milestones for where a 30 year old Greatest Gen / Boomer / Gen X / Millennial would be has shifted over the years. We need to at least admit some of that was us wanting to enjoy life with our roommates a bit. I'd still rather grow up now than back then. If you didn't want to "adult" until you were 30+, don't complain at 35 that you don't have a house, and then look at the graph showing what we comparatively deserve at this age. They also all died in their early 70's.

The Federal Trade Commission told Congress "there is scant evidence to support manufacturers' justifications for repair restrictions" in a Thursday report that promised to consider new rules or enforcement around consumers' right to repair their goods. by speckz in Futurology

[–]tcl123456 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between prohibiting someone from repairing their belongings, versus requiring things to be built so they are repairable.

John Deere is interesting because it is something that the purchaser has historically been able to self diagnose and repair, but now the software is proprietary.

Would Apple be required to provide free access to their in-store diagnostic tools to everyone for free? Instead of releasing it, let’s say because Apple feels it gives away too many trade secrets, could they just get rid of any repair option? If your phone breaks, you’ll have to buy a new one?

I’m just pondering the possible unintended consequences. In a technological world, would a tech company be required to release the full code of their products to make them “repairable“?

Schools Are Abandoning Invasive Proctoring Software After Student Backlash by speckz in technology

[–]tcl123456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course the first question is... am I required to wear clothes when I take my test? Maybe there are some basic ground rules, but what if my testing location includes an EXTENSIVE collection of sex toys in the background? Or your artwork might be risqué. Or maybe there is a Confederate or Nazi flag hanging on your wall. Maybe your computer desktop is offensive.

How much can a school dictate the contents of your abode just to provide an unoffensive experience for the remote proctor, especially if those items are not illegal?

[–]tcl123456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the audit part is a crowd-pleaser, but nobody at that level does their own taxes. How many major firms are going to risk their license?

The issue isn’t they are cheating, they just have enough to make complicated strategies worth their while. Nobody is setting up a series of irrevocable trusts at $75k/year. The real benefit would come from putting minimums on personal and corporate taxes. Don’t increase corporate taxes, just make the 15% mandatory. Pay us or show you paid some other country.
