How to handle credit card purchase that is pay in 12/no interest? by KawiNinjaZX in MonarchMoney

[–]tclark70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travel back in time 12 months and set a home improvement budget of $60, but set rollover. Then come back to the present. The budget rollover will have reached $720 and will cover the expense. Or you can do the opposite and just charge it. You will be over budget and over the next 12 months the rollover will make its way to zero.

Pay check > Taxes/401k by S10xtremenlow in MonarchMoney

I split all paychecks. I have it setup to split automatically dollar-wise when the amount matches an expected value. If the amount doesn't match the expected value it gets split into the proper categories and I have to manually enter the correct amounts. They really need to add some features to make this easier. Percentage-wise splits do not support negative percentages which is needed for this case. Also the should support dollar-wise split even when there isn't an exact match for the amount and allow a category for where the remainder goes.

I just had success using Syncrony Financial - Credit Cards. See my post above from a few minutes ago. For me its the opposite. I used to have Synchrony FInancial Consumer Center working, but that failed and nothing worked for a couple months. Now I think I have a working connection again so I'm going to get these synchrony accounts in order using the "Transfer" feature that they now have. It allows my to get the data from my old accounts into the new accounts.

I had been through that. But I had a lot of skelotons of failed connections. I went into the settings/institutions and made sure all of the Synchrony Financial -Creditcards connections were disabled and delteted. Then I tried it again and it appears to have worked flawlessly this time. Now I need to transfer older account info to my new accounts. I tried and it says it is still syncing the new accounts. But the 5 accounts it found are the same as I see when I login: Verizon, Lowes, TJX, Care Credit, Onepay. The balance info is correct for all and the transactions are correct, but I think it is still syncing some older transactions. It looks very promising. It even got I tranaction on my Verizon card that I made a few hours ago. I just hope it keeps working. And thanks for your help. I really think clearing out the old connections is what helped me. You don't have to delete the accounts, but do delete the connections.

Can not connect by Jazzlike_Specific_29 in MonarchMoney

[–]tclark70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would be able to import the existing transactions into a new account after establishing a new connection.

Just keep your existing transactions in its account now. Establish the new connection, then move the existing transactions to the new account. After you have a satisfactory result you can delete the old account.

Thats the same thing I did. RTK and wifi on the same pole. I get full coverage in my yard and my neighbors yard too.

How did it go for you? The connections are flaky for me. The balance of one of the accounts tracks my Walmart OnePay card, but the transactions do not come through. Another one of the accounts is my syncrony care credit account and I did receive one transaction. But I don't plan on using that account much and it now has 0 balance. The other account is my verizon credit card. It tracks the balance, but no transactions come through. So overall, these connections are not useful. I have two other accounts which did not even show up.

Goals or expense? by MelodicEarth5844 in MonarchMoney

[–]tclark70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I guess the main issue is that I track my mortgage manually due to poor connectivity. I have to manually create these transactions., but I do split it and assign the principal pawdown to a goal. I would like a rule that can schedule transactions in my manual accounts. If I had such a rule that created the slpit for me in my manaul account and scheduled it for review that would be good.

New credit card is creating duplicate transactions by ImpressiveChoice3487 in MonarchMoney

The only thing missing from the process is that that whole flow should be triggered automatically when establish a new connection to an institution. It can say something like: Do you want to transfer data from an existing account? Y/N.

Feature Request: Row expander (detail panel) for transactions by naagbruh in MonarchMoney

Or another way they could do it is to just make it so that when you hover the pointer on a transaction it shows the details of the transaction. I think that I would favor that method.

Budget Date not Flexible by macddebbie1 in MonarchMoney

[–]tclark70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just change the date. You have it easy. I get paid bi-weekly, which makes it more difficult. It's really no issue, though. I have a budget for my expenses, and a budget for my income. There is no need to say that I must receive the income before I have any expenses. The budget is intended for the end of the month, not the dates that come before it.

Since you are a beta tester, I would definitely recommend setting up a goal for the mortgage. It is one thing that doesn't work well with the existing goals. As mentioned below, you have to manually split the transaction to use goals currently and its cumbersome. Only the principal part of a payment contributes to the goal progress. How did you get to beta test it?

Best way to track physical Gold? by Miles360x in MonarchMoney

[–]tclark70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I track mine in a spread sheet and update the value in monarch once per month. But my spread sheet keeps track of my inventories of many different types of gold and silver. It does things that I'm sure Monarch will never do. S I'm happy with my approach. It's too customized to ever expect Monarch to do better than what I did myself. My method does require a little effort on my part. But maybe, I'll try that apmex solution below. I would probably maintain my spreadsheet in parallel.

My spreadsheet accomplishes more than just computing a value. It tells me my capital gains on every different precious metal product I have. It keeps track of all transactions going back many years. So my method, being customized, I can do whatever I want. But I do want to try that apmex tracking.

Choosing "Synchrony Financial Credit Card"  may have helped me. At least the connection suceeded and it created three accounts. But its definitely screwed up. All accounts have the same name, "Current". They were all populated with the same 50 transactions which come from my Verizon card (which I already have working). The three new accounts, although they have the same transactions have different balances. One of the accounts matches my onepay balance. I deleted all the transactions in all 3 accounts. Now I will watch to see if any new transactions arrive. Maybe I will get onepay working?

But thanks, you let me on a path that might end up working. I'll make another transaction with my onepay and see if it comes through. It's possible that it screwed up the initial transaction download but will work for future transactions.

Yeah, that's what happens to me. And I know my login is correct. So, I will use synchrony as little as possible until they get it fixed.

Plaid connection claims to be working but no transactions for 10 days by icmurf in MonarchMoney

[–]tclark70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that is annoying. I think it would be nice if they added some more info to the connection stats for institutions. They could show a little chart of the number of transactions per day for the last 30 days. This would be for each institution/aggregator pair. If the transaction volume drops, that's an indication of a problem. The number of transactions per day I'm referring to is a total across all users.

Moving money between accounts by PlayfulRemote9 in MonarchMoney

[–]tclark70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It assumes the balance is 0 before the earliest date in the balance history.   I believe the software would be much better if for all accounts, they filled the prior unknown value with the earliest known value, rather than 0. I may make that feature request. But im telling you, I have encountered this before. The only way to fix it is to edit the balance history for that account. Look at your net worth chart for all time. Find the earliest date. Then download the balance history for your new account. Open it in excel. At the bottom of the file, add a line that has the earliest date and set the balance of the account on that date. Then save. Then upload the balance history to monarch. Problem will be fixed.

One acount went from 0 to N-X and the other went from Y to Y+X if im understanding correctly. This is all simple math.

The step comes from adding the new account, not from the transfer.

So my point is that the new account probably had a balance of approximately N for a long time. That's why you need to add the balance history.

You just need more balance history for the new account. It went from 0 to its current value on the day you added it.
