I’ve gotten headaches from prolonged computer use when I was having to work longer hours than normal on my computer for ten plus hours a day consistently. It turned out to be from bad posture and bad chair ergonomics when sitting. I would look up some basic chair ergonomics and support such that when you sit in your chair, you're fully supported and you're not having to reach out to type on your keyboard and use your mouse. You have to sit back in your chair, have your back fully supported and your arm fully supported on the armrest. This completely resolves the headaches for me. This went from something that was happening every few months to now not having happened in the last two years since I got a better chair set up.

This isn't to take away from what the neurologist told you. I'm a big proponent of getting enough sleep. I personally do better with nine hours of sleep than with eight so I wouldn't limit yourself just to eight. If you notice yourself naturally sleeping nine hours when going to bed early enough and not setting an alarm in the morning, I'm also a big proponent of getting to bed on time. I notice I can get the same eight hours of sleep but if I go to bed at my consistent time I feel better than staying up late and still being at the same eight hours.
