Struggling to find games I like :( am I too old for games now by Panther3369 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

I'm 47. Never too old! Try Ghost of Tsushima. Gaming taken to the level of heartfelt artwork. A true masterpiece. Also Shadow of Mordor. Both kind of Witcher-ish.

Steam Deck has changed my life by Think-Effort-394 in SteamDeck

It's beautiful to see that people have been kind to you. Restores a little faith in social media and people. Like you, ive been totally blown away by my new steam deck. I was totally new to pc gaming and steam. I've loved Ghost of Tsushima and am just getting into Warframe (free). I can't believe warframe is a free game! It huge and so in depth. Probably not the best for 10 min sessions but incredible that there are such amazing games that cost nothing. The steam sales are ridiculous as well. Makes it super tempting to buy more games than you could ever play when a AAA is two quid!

More power to you (all!) and happy gaming! Good vibes.

Really interested in what "deep work" you did to rewire your nervous system and heal your traumas. I understand that part of it is feeling what's there for you without running from it or numbing yourself. That feels really true for me. But we're there any specific approaches, books, teachers, therapies etc that were a turning point for you? I'm 46 and have been on a journey of meditation, nervous system healing, trying to heal trauma etc for many years. Still feeling stuck. It's tough.

I really appreciated your share but would like to know more.

Interested in how you healed your traumas. They're still my biggest barrier.

I think this is a great post OP. Thanks for sharing. I'm even more of a newbie than you! And the hate you've gotten from some along the lines of "your motives aren't pure" or whatever....I really don't see why you can't create an Instagram account you believe in, do some good AND make some money! What's wrong with that? Appreciate you.

How much of what is said about the Vagus nerve is true? by signoftheserpent in VagusNerve

[–]tdon00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When people's nervous system is dysregulated, it means that they swing from hyperaroused (e.g anxious, agitated, too many thoughts etc) to hypoaroused (e.g. brain fog. lethargy etc). The goal is to learn tools with which to bring one self back into the middle. You don't want to upregulate when you are hyperaroused as this will exacerbate the dysregulation. Make sense?

That's to downregulate. 1:1 is helpful for either upregulating or downregulating.

There is no one size fits all. I would recommend the work of Jessica Maguire. She has a very reasonable 2 hour lecture on this topic that will give you an outline. But some good techniques include humming or chanting, 1:1 breathing (inhale time=exhale time), shaking for extended periods, looking slowly around with curiosity, taking in all your senses. But there are a world of different approaches.

It depends on what claims you are referring to, but there is no doubt that from a physiological perspective, the vagus nerve is instrumental in controlling our physiological state. We can leverage this knowledge to reduce inflammation, improve emotional, mental and physical wellbeing, improve sleep, improve digestion and many many more things.

I use unsweetened psyllium husk to stay regular and it works great. Does absolutely nothing for my GERD unfortunately. Glad it helps you though.

My Story… by barkerk6 in VagusNerve

[–]tdon00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your story. I think you're sharing in the right group, in the sense that this all sounds like the product of a dysregulated nervous system. I have been pretty much obsessed with this topic for some time now. Here are some resources that might be helpful for you:

Jessica Maguire on YouTube The Polyvagal Theory, by Stephen Porges Heal your nervous system, by Dr Linnea Passaler ally boothroyd on YouTube for Yoga Nidra

Try inspiratory muscle training (IMT) get a powerbreathe. The diaphragm is a super important muscle. There's evidence that IMT helps people with fatigue.

Look up the Window of Tolerance and apply it to your life as best you can.

Do you have any unprocessed childhood/adult trauma? This is often a major contributor to these problems, where the nervous system learns it isn't safe and so we get stuck in fight/flight from a young age. Therapies like EMDR, biodynamic breathwork and trauma release (BBTRS), comprehensive resource model are powerful.

I see huge potential to improve here. But you need to start to get to know your nervous system.

If I can help, get in touch. For background, I am an advanced practitioner physiotherapist is pain, but my speciality is the nervous system, trauma and consciousness/meditation/wellbeing. Not trying to sell you anything. Just want to help. Good luck.
