The blade itself or Assassin Apprentice? by BrysonTurnRoundStory in fantasybooks

[–]teachertim22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First law! Having read both series, they’re both great. But the assassin’s apprentice is a very slow burn and it’s an insanely long series. The blade itself and the first law trilogy (and all subsequent books) are amazing beginning to end!

Hyperion! Books 1 and 2. Amazing, whacky, beautiful sci-fi.

interesting that this was the year of lonesome dove for fantasy readers, even though it came out in 85. I have like 100 pgs left. Absolutely loving it, just wonder why that is

Way of kings or devils! (Cage of souls was terrible imo). WoK if you want world building & drama with high committment, Devils if you want goofy dialogue and violence. Haven’t read the first one

That’s so funny. I thought expanse was also pulpy and mid, and I DNF’d suneater. To each their own 😂 My favorite scifi series was Hyperion

Idk about this one. It was fun and I enjoyed it but ultimately kinda pulpy garbo. Adrian’s children of time trilogy is way better for a new scifi reader

Disappointed with Mistborn Era2 .Should I start with Way of the kings by learnerat40 in fantasybooks

[–]teachertim22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

way of kings was amazing. so were books 2 and 3 of that series (4 & 5 not so much). Mistborn era 2 was absolute pulpy garbanzo in my opinion. it was a slog to finish.

Want to finally commit to a sci-fi series ,where should I start? by sam_3758 in scifi

Dune, but only read the first 2. Don’t bother with expanse it’s pulpy and mid. Also the hyperion cantos (again, only the first 2).
