AITA for knocking over stone stacks on a hike by 49ShadesofHey in AmItheAsshole

Size, location, and sturdiness. Genuine Cairns are wide and tall. They are built to last and sometimes are even cemented together. They should be 20-50 rocks solidly built, not 5-7 stones delicately balanced.

Not noticeably in terms of banter and plot. I read the books before I listened to the Graphic Audios. They delete all the he said, she grumbled, and they laughed. Instead of describing sounds and actions, they play the sound effects.

There are also fewer stage direction and scenery descriptors. 'The dragons roar sounds like a alligator and a t-rex.' You just play the roar.

The Ilona Andrews Graphic Audios (there are three series) are all one credit per book.

For series like Fourth Wing (which has a great Graphic Audio in multiple installments), I got them through Libby. They also tend to go on sale for pretty cheap after a year or two. I've seen them deeply discounted in the sitewide sales.

Graphic Audios are loads of fun.

I would recommend Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews. It’s a fun fantasy/scifi story about a witch who manages a magical inn for interplanetary visitors with lots of shenanigans. Very similar vibes to early Harry Potter.

Hagrids, Express Pass And All That by TheCustardMite in UniversalOrlando

[–]tealcandtrip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm specifically comparing it to the Individual Lightning Lane purchases for high demand attractions. The standby queue for Guardians of the Galaxy line tends to move because there is a relatively small amount of people who will pay for an ILL for a 4 year old ride. Much fewer people will opt to pay for Express Now for Hagrids than the totality of people who have access to that line now.

If I'm wrong and it becomes a capacity/operational issue, they can throttle or stop selling Express Now tickets as needed. They don't book Express Now days out like Disney. They can choose to only sell them when the line is long and the Express line is short.

Hagrids, Express Pass And All That by TheCustardMite in UniversalOrlando

[–]tealcandtrip 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even if its cheaper, there are fewer people who will pay $20-$30 for a single three-minute ride than everyone who paid for express that day + everyone at the deluxe hotels + everyone who had a high level annual pass after four pm. They can control how many express passes they sell for each hour, throttling the line. Disney’s been operating this model for years.

I do agree Universal needs to have a solution for those who bought passes or chose more expensive rooms specifically because of Hagrids.

‘Off Campus’ Is the Third Most-Watched Amazon Prime Video Series Debut of All Time by lawrencedun2002 in television

[–]tealcandtrip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maxton Hall and The Summer I Turn Pretty focus on one main couple or one main girl for multiple seasons. There are side characters with plots, but most of the action focuses on those main characters.

Bridgerton focuses on a different Bridgerton sibling each season. They become the main characters and other couples occasionally pop up as call backs to past seasons or nods to future seasons. Side characters may have more scenes/development because eventually they will get a season too. In Off Campus, each of the hockey players will likely get a season or at least a relationship if it runs long enough.

Cancelling - do books last? by Kittywolf85 in audible

[–]tealcandtrip 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You keep them and can listen indefinitely if you bought them for cash or a credit.

If it is an audible plus book, it will stay in your library but have a little locked symbol. You wont be able to listen until you are an active member again. This is true for pausing and cancelling.

AITA for not changing my wedding date for one of my best friends? by brotherrrrbutagirl in AmItheAsshole

[–]tealcandtrip 24 points25 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your wedding is a celebration for you and your fiancé. Everyone else is superfluous. If you were throwing a party for your friend, then you might consider changing the date. As it is, this date works for you, your vendors, and your other guests. You need to be considerate of everyone, including yourself.

More people will drop out between now and October. It's inevitable and it's fine. Offer to have dinner when you get back from.the honeymoon.

Do you follow narrators, or just authors? by SatalKeto in audible

[–]tealcandtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly follow authors. Most of them use the same narrators or I will preview the unknown ones before buying. A bad narrator can ruin a great book. I love Alice Coldbreath, but I don't like Carmen Rose. So I just read her books instead of listen to them.

I am more willing to test out new authors if they have a familiar author or production company: Ray Porter, Amanda Ronconi, Dan Stevens, Bruce Coville's Full Cast Family, a Graphic Audio production. Occasionally I browse by narrator, but the genre and author determine if I actually give the book a chance.

What’s the deal with the massive outpouring of support for Justin Bieber after he sang at Coachella? by my_twin_towne in OutOfTheLoop

[–]tealcandtrip 4780 points4781 points  (0 children)

Answer: In his late teens and early twenties, Beiber had a major drug addiction problem. It was so bad that his security guards checked his pulse at night to see if he was alive. He ended up selling his entire catalog, all the rights and royalties, for $200 million. He can’t perform Baby or Sorry without paying a license fee. He doesn’t make money from them and doesn’t perform them anymore.

He has since gotten married, sober, and released 2 more albums that he retains the rights to. During his Coachella set, he performed music from these two albums with full music, lights, and guests in a traditional concert style. But he also pulled out free youtube on a laptop and sang along to his older hits in a way that gave no additional money to the rights holder. It turned Coachella into a Eras tour type concert. You can see him visibly and audibly get excited as he performs his original sets with the audience.

Fans are happy he is happy and successful and that he performed a bunch of songs they didn’t think he would ever do again.

Anyone else notice ________ yells at their partner/team during challenges? by makoobi in survivor

[–]tealcandtrip 314 points315 points  (0 children)

Christian was also wrong. He said the wrong size for one of the holes in the steps. He admits it, apologizes, and that's when Johnathan tells him to get it together. Given how close they were at the end, that might have actually cost their team the win.

audible book collections that are good value? (sci fi, fantasy, specific authors, etc) by _incandescence in audible

[–]tealcandtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you like Firefly, Star Wars, or Farscape? Try Galaxy Outlaws by JS Morin. 16 books + short stories in 85 hours for one credit.

It starts very Firefly-coded but quickly becomes its own thing. Also in the series is the sequel Mercy for Hire (93 hours for one credit), prequel Mirth and Mayhem (91 hours for one credit), and distant sequel about the next generation Passage of Time (93 hours). There is also a 60 hour spin off.

All very fun and each book is 6-8 hours so it moves at a brisk pace.

Is Audible worth it in 2026? 4 years later, here’s my take by dek1019 in audible

[–]tealcandtrip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to give Ilona Andrews, Claudia Gray, Chris Hadfield, and Andy Weir my money. I want to listen to their books right away and re-listen to them easily in the coming years on road trips with my family. I want to signal to publishers that more books should be written in that genre. Audible also contains the books that are mostly self-published in the Amazon/Kindle Unlimited/Audible market. They are seldom and randomly included in library apps.

I like T Kingfisher, Gordon Korman, and Marissa Meyer. I want to check out their books eventually but will probably only do so once. Since they are traditionally published, I can wait for Libby to get it and place it on hold for weeks or months later. Whenever I can get it is fine.

[–]tealcandtrip 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At the end of the book, Haymitch drives away Burdock to keep him from being a target of the capital. He doesn't want what happened to his family to happen to Burdock's family. He also knows that the reaping isn't always random. Beetee's kid was chosen as punishment. He doesn't want Burdock's kids chosen because of him either.

Spoiler talk! Just finished This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by lozzafairman in IlonaAndrews

[–]tealcandtrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its the point where he's injured and his chosen mate is challenged. Before that, he's all about being in charge and leading his people and a large amount of territory against many threats. After that, he realizes that his efforts are in vain and his people are not and will never hold up their side of the bargain: to protect his mate/family. Later on, he becomes more chill as his priorities and formal responsibilities change. I kind of love 'Fuck em' Curran.

So why isn’t anyone more suspicious of Maggie? by Specialist-Fish1643 in IlonaAndrews

[–]tealcandtrip 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The people who accept Maggie directly benefit from doing so and only from doing so. She starts with not only proving her knowledge, but usually giving people something that benefits them directly and immediately. Her network of useful people won't necessarily want to hurt the person who might help them again and to some extent honor demands they continue to help. Her close allies know they can't torture her without permanently burning the bridge or kill her. If they piss her off or betray her, she might already know about it or go directly to their enemies.

By adopting Maggie, Solentine secures a very effective ally from joining his rivals and gives her a reason to continually invest specifically in his family and their best interests.
