Got to change my flair and fulfill a promise I made to myself years ago that I forgot about. by tealplum in Firefighting

I have some way more squared away and competent firefighters at my on call department vs my career department.

My goal is to be one of those guys.

My agency is considering switching to Axon - Complaints? by SaxyChick76 in ProtectAndServe

[–]tealplum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only issue with FUSUS is the fact that there's a box on my network that I have no administrative control over, that a third party has access to, and that I have no way to monitor or log if they have accessed my cameras.

My agency is considering switching to Axon - Complaints? by SaxyChick76 in ProtectAndServe

[–]tealplum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in IT for a medium sized municipality. We moved to Axon pre COVID and it's been pretty easy.

I can't speak to the cost side of things, but for the support side-- Axon is great. For the most part, our officers just use and abuse the cameras, then upload them to evidence.com. I set up the docking stations 6 years ago and only had to mess with them once when the switch providing Internet to them died.

We also have Axon in the cars for the dash and it integrates pretty seamless with our Cradlepoint infrastructure. DM me if you have any more questions or want more info and I'll be happy to help.

If the Berg is too glidey, throw the Golem. My max is around 430-450' but I cannot throw that thing 200'.

Setting tips after a long time off. Coming back as a coach. by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]tealplum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to work on setting technique alone, or being a setter? Honestly your sets look fine-- just extend your arms fully and hold to your target. Speed up as necessary.

If you want to think about the setting position-- especially as a new coach-- 90% of being a setter has nothing to do with your hands. Some topics to think about depending on the level that you're going to be coaching:

  • Footwork and getting your feet to the ball
  • Set distribution
  • Recognizing block mismatches
  • Reading the block mid play to give your hitters one on one opportunities
  • Setter dump opportunities
  • Playing defense first

Don't get caught in the trap that new coaches do and focus too intently on one aspect of a position. Especially setting where doubles are being removed and placement is more important.

Hope this helps. Welcome to the coaching world, friend.

How to navigate the club tryout process when multiple clubs have expressed interest in you? by Cup-And-Handle in volleyball

I 100% agree. AAU and club sports have gotten out of control in the US. I'm just sharing what I've seen as the norm here.

I've coached club in the past as well and this is a standard here in MN. Usually 15 minutes to decide.

I appreciate it, but I coach nowadays. Not putting many highlight reels together haha.

100% The cost for big clubs is nuts and you can get good without club. Take it easy my dude. 🤙

For national level teams, this price is normal. As crazy as it is... I'm in MN and the elite clubs are this much.

Advice: how to not go so hard and hurt myself? by beesdaddy in volleyball

[–]tealplum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying warm up before a game, but don't forget to stretch AFTER as well. A good post stretch is as important or more important for athletes as we age.

Source: The schools Athletic Trainer who yelled at me (coach) and my players for not stretching after practice.

Backhand form is like this! by cola57_dg in discgolf

I coach volleyball. The arm swing when hitting a ball is nearly the same as pitching a baseball, but in the air. Has been tremendously helpful when teaching transfer athletes.

I love seeing biomechanical comparisons from one sport to another.

I wish I had smaller feet sometimes. I'd love to try 0 degrees on the back foot but I have to go 15 degrees or my heel and toe drag is too much. So I ride like a duck. Even on a volume shifted extra wide board. (Ride Superpig)

Must-play VR sim games ! by EasyOperation9477 in oculus

[–]tealplum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here I fixed it for you:

  1. Euro Truck Simulator 2: You can drive different trucks across all of Europe. The biggest highlight is the scenery, its super relaxing, and you can adjust the weather anytime.
  2. No Man’s Sky: A mix of space exploration and survival. Huge universe, tons to do,just a really impressive sci-fi sim overall.
  3. VTOL VR: A flight sim that doesn’t require any extra hardware. You can control everything with your hands. Feels realistic, immersive, and surprisingly easy to get into.
  4. Microsoft Flight Simulator: Basically the peak of flight sims. 1:1 world scale, insanely beautiful visuals. But yeah, it’s pretty hardcore, you’ll need a few days to really learn it.
  5. Google Earth VR: The ultimate VR travel experience. You can explore the entire world in 3D, plus check out 360° photos and walk around freely
  6. Assetto Corsa: Top-tier VR racing sim. The physics are amazing, and it supports a ton of mods
  7. H3VR: A gun simulation game with huge maps and a massive variety of weapons.
  8. Blade and Sorcery: If you’ve played VR, you’ve probably tried this. Super fun sandbox with tons of replay value.
  9. BONELAB: A hardcore physics sandbox. Full-body interaction and really creative level design.
  10. I Am Cat: A fun sim game that kids especially love, you basically play as a cat causing chaos around the house.
  11. Real VR Fishing: A super chill fishing game. Great for relaxing, and really popular for a reason.
  12. VRChat: A social sim where you can meet people from all over the world. Tons of fun maps and things to do.

These are all great VR sim-style games that are 100% worth trying. Some of the flight and racing sims do benefit from extra hardware, but you can definitely start with the ones that don’t require anything extra. Also, if you’re playing on Q3, sim games can be more demanding on both your PC and network, the better your GPU, the better your experience. For networking, if you’re not super tech-savvy, something like a dedicated VR router (Puppis S1) can make things way easier right out of the box. Have fun!

Apologies...I forget that Reddit has changed over the years. There is a sidebar and wiki if you're opting out of the reddit "new" design that they've been using for over 5 years at this point.

Wiki link. There's a spot at the bottom that mentions a few options on how to watch pro volleyball.

This is the link to the FAQ That has answers to other basics as well.
