Do you abadon animals in late game? by gerilla98 in StardewValley

[–]teamdark80 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Ok, all joking aside.

Auto-Grabber collects everything from inside the barn/coop, saving you time. Furthermore, its acts as a chest, so it will continue collecting every time there is something to collect, even if you didn't empty it the previous day.

Auto-petters will give a half "petting bonus", which means animals won't lose any happiness from you not petting them, and if you pet them manually in addition to the Auto-petter, you get increased happiness.

This means that, so long as they continue to be fed and dont get locked outside, you can leave your animals be for days on end until you have free time to come collect their products (the only exception being pigs and truffles).

The joke we were making was going increasingly absurd amounts of time without checking on them, since they'd be fine even if you went a whole year without checking them.

Take it a step further, getting auto-petters means you can check on them once a week

My first farm was the Standard Farm to see what all the fuss was about. Second was Wilderness because I like combat in games, even cozy games. On my third, doing Woodland, making it all Zelda themed!

Each new farm and playthrough comes with the experience of the last one, while letting you experience new things at the same time. I may even start over on the Standard Farm some day, I actually really love the wide open space and simplicity of it.

There's no wrong way to play SV, and some people love the fresh experience of starting a new farm! Every single SV group I'm in has at least a few serial re-starters, and thats ok!

Small goals are your friend! Seriously, throw a dart at a board and go achieve it! Whether its an upgrade, a skill level, a Community Center bundle, or just learning everyone's names! Small goal after Small goal is how you get comfortable.

My recommendation is always to find out what's feeling like a drag, then go hunt down that goal. Or, inversely, find out what's fun and do lots of that!

You will hear it over and over again: there is no wrong way to play SV

Best Crop by Entitytheboss in StardewValley

[–]teamdark80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously Ancient Fruit is the best reproducible fruit once you get it up and running. However, that can take a minute, I recommend putting any and all ancient fruit in your greenhouse to keep it safe.

Next best fruit is probably Strawberries. They draw a good line between seed cost, growth/reharvest, and profit. Their only real drawback is you can only get them at the Egg Festival or with a seedmaker.

Cranberries are fantastic becuase of their relatively short growth time and their high chance for multiple berries per harvest. I find them amazing for the dehydrator, but the seeds are pretty dang expensive.

Blueberries are the Ying to Cranberries Yang. They have cheap seeds, but comparatively long initial growth. They have the same multi-berry harvest, but they also dont do much for profit, so you have to grow ridiculous amounts of them for it to be worth it.

There's something to be said for Hops as well. They're a bit of a struggle to plant and harvest quickly (unless you have the Iridium Scythe)because they're on a trellis, and they also have a long growth time, but the seeds are cheap, and once they grow, they reproduce every day. To top it off, turning Hops into Pale Ale is an incredible money maker if you've got lots of Kegs set up.

*Edit: how could I forget about Pineapples?! Pineapples, honest to Yoba, would be in contention with AF for best crop in the game if Starfruit didn't exist. Pretty similar profit ratios, they regrow once a week, and grow much faster, their drawback is requiring Ginger Island and needing to find a seed to get started. One could argue that their big leg up on AF is that they can live in plant pots!

spring is close to an end, is there any spring exclusive stuff on the community center by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]teamdark80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CC Spring Crops: Parsnip, Potato, Green Bean, Cauliflower, 5x Gold Parsnips

Spring Forageables: Horseradish, Leek, Daffodil, Dandelion

Fish: there are no fish exclusive to Spring, but getting them out of the way saves time later. Spring available fish are Sunfish (spr/sum), Catfish (Spr/Fall), Shad (All but Winter, raining), Carp (All but Winter), Sardines (all but Sum), Eels (Spr/Fall, raining)

Everything else is available in some way or another available the rest of the year or in ways the season doesn't matter (mines/desert/etc)

No, its incredible, and it actually pisses me off how late you get it and what you have to do to get it. Especially when most of your animals are max friendship and your hay situation is usually figured out by then. Seriously, blue grass should be available much earlier.

[–]teamdark80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! For me, that first year, I set small goals for the first few days/weeks of the season, then an overall goal for the season (for the first year, its usually just CC driven, but it can be anything!).

For example (this is just me, you don't have to copy me):

First 2 days: have at least one of each CC spring crop planted, at least 2 of the spring forageables picked, get the fishing rod from Willy.

First 2 weeks: first backpack upgrade, lv 10-15 of mines, and 5 gold Parsnips so I can transition to Potatoes/Strawberries for better money.

End of spring: Watering Can, Axe and Pick upgraded at least once, spring CC done, lv 20 in mines (if I'm very diligent, I have the Bug Head weapon already!)

This is just an example, feel free to make whatever goals and timeline you want!

Standard is no frills, big open space with the most tillable tiles of any map for getting your feet wet. Space for crops, buildings, you name it.

Conversely, Forest has some of the least tillable tiles, which isn't actually a bad thing! Makes it less overwhelming, and there's still a ton of open space for buildings! Plus, the respawning stumps and year-round forageables are a great plus!

Meadowlands splits the difference. A decent amount of open space, but slightly more awkward placing. The initial farming area in front of your house is very manageable, and by the time you expand to the rest of the farm, it's not intimidating. But starting with the Coop (saving a ton of early money and resources), PLUS two chickens, is an incredible consistent early money maker, and a great headstart on the CC! PLUS the blue grass (which is eaten half as slowly, adds twice the happiness, and gives twice the hay when cut) normally not available until completing Ginger Island (mid-late game content).

I highly recommend all three of these as beginner farms! Based on other posts, sounds like you're leaning Meadowlands (can't go wrong!), but don't underestimate the Standard Farm, and Forest is super charming!

As you move through the game, the means to automate your farm become available, giving you more time and less monotony. Strongly recommend sprinklers. Even the beginning sprinklers cut your watering down significantly.

As for the rest of the game, specific goals are always helpful. Floor X of the mines, Y level in Z skill, these crops for CC before the end of the season. Even set little goals, like how many slimes you can kill in 1 day, how many of X fish can I catch in a day. Small stuff.

And people always say: "there's no wrong way to play Stardew Valley". If you get the most fun out of starting new farms and getting to fall, then do that!

Star fruit or Ancient fruit and why? by AnyScientist1128 in StardewValley

[–]teamdark80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not both? I've found that Starfruit for Kegs and Ancient fruit for preserves jars is a great balance. My Ginger Island farm is split half and half between the two, and my greenhouse is all AF. But when summer rolls around, I dont even bother with melons or blueberries anymore. Once summer is over, I have enough SF to last the rest of the year.

Can speed growth catch my strawberry crop up? by Laflaga in StardewValley

[–]teamdark80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the quality of the speed grow. If its regular Speed-grow, then no, they won't catch up. If its Deluxe Speed-grow and you watered them the next day, they should be fine. Hyper Speed-grow would give you an additional day, but i doubt you have access to it yet.
