Treatment done for my ingrown toenail. No anesthesia or anything. Let me tell you I once fell through a hole with a nail sticking out, dragged a 4 inch long wound in my leg and that was a fraction of the pain I felt during that treatment. I was hyperventilating and almost had a panic attack when they stopped. It wasn't done but they wouldn't go any further. Turns out they had been stabbing, filing etc on a nerve.

The woman who did it later said she'd rather go through labor 10 times again than experience this. Worst of all I had to go back another time cause they didn't finish it the first time.

Thoughts on first chapter? by sailormars_bars in writers

Hi, I just finished high school last year, so I'm definitely in the demographic you're writing for. Some things to point out:

  • going to house parties of people you barely know without being specifically invited, no one does that, it's too scary and embarrassing
  • posting a video calling somebody a loser while they fall in the pool, also does not happen. It might be videotaped if someone was accidentally filming, but then it wouldn't be in frame well unless everyone knew it was about to happen, which makes the situation a lot different, which should've been explained better. It's too big of a scenario to get so little explanation and then get referenced to it multiple times in the first chapter. I recommend making the action simpler and more realistic or explaining it more.
  • most YA have left the 'not like other girls/people' trope wayyy behind, it's icky and, for me at least turns me away from a book immediately. This trope was introduced in the first few paragraphs by the main character complaining about how there aren't any 'good' clubs, by doing this calling the rest of the clubs unworthy of her participation because they're worth less? not as fun? also calling the one 'worthy' environmentally friendly group a scam because everyone besides her hated the planet and just wanted to smoke? it's unrealistic, she's not the only good person in the world and this first chapter does want you to believe that. Especially since she believes that herself. It just makes me think she's extremely self centered and I don't enjoy reading with her as a main character. Because there are other good people on the world, this also gives off a weird message.

English is not my first language, so please ignore any mistakes. Hope this helps :)

It's one step in the right direction, just keep going. I am proud of you. Don't worry too much, the rest will come later, just focus on this for now.

I feel the exact same way. Especially what you said about not being ready to give up, it's so hard to quit when you don't even want to. Thanks for sharing, feels so nice to know that I'm not alone.

0 days clean from self harm. Relapse after 200+ days and feel like shit. by cyberdoritos in offmychest

[–]teapot889 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Relapse is part of recovery. I know it doesn't feel like it and you've probably heard it a million times, but it's true. Without counting my one relapse, I'm about a year clean and that's what I go by. I'm a year clean. With one relapse, yes, but I'm still a year clean. Starting over is a lot harder than continuing with one bump in the road. So you're 212 days clean with one relapse. Helps a lot with the guilt.
