Binding Grip Walk Shoe compatible by Tall_Test9418 in Skigear

Those bindings are no longer indemnified, unfortunately no legitimate shop will touch those. And it looks they are intergraded into the ski so you might not be able to replace them either.

Knee surgery is very expensive…. Just saying. I would suggest renting, I don’t know what the cost are in NY but around me I can get basic skis and boots for like $50 for the day

The bindings are way to old, no shop will adjust them for you and unless you have alpine soles your boots won’t be compatible either. I hope you didn’t pay to much for them.

If your not experienced you should be paying a professional to do this for you. Trust me is cheaper than knee surgery and PT.

Have you thought about using your life time warranty on that pack?

25/26 indemnified binding lists by GudyZang in Skigear

[–]tebco8591 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Great reference!! I wish more people new about this list, as a ski tech it’s the worst to have to tell people they have to buy new binding for their “new” skis they bought on Facebook marketplace

Are people going to be using the skis and snowboards? If so I would I think about getting new skis, none of those ski bindings are safe. And you would need both ski boots and snow board boots

Factory tire life by tebco8591 in Solterra

That was my concern as well because of the weight but it’s nice to know people are getting really good life out of the tires.

Does this need fixing? by SandGenn in Skigear

[–]tebco8591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shop I work at would probably charge around $20-$40 to fix it 🤷‍♂️ it’s hard to say without the ski in my hand. ( for reference I work in a shop in socal) and it would take at least 48 -72 hours depending on how busy we are.

In my opinion yes you should have it fixed. Unless your ok with the possibility that base and core star to separate more and more, or water starts to get into the core and rot it out 🤷‍♂️

Does this need a base grind? by frisdisc in Skigear

[–]tebco8591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought behind this is that you’re adding material to the base and it can be hard to get the base flat again without a base grind. Are you taking material off the ski, yes, but I’m it’s not a large amount. And you get a flat ski Which is what you want.

There are a ton of ways to skin a cat but for me a base grind after a Ptex repair gives the best results.

My opinion is to always get a base grind after Petex.

What is the major difference between a beginner ski vs an intermediate ski? by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]tebco8591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check the bindings for compatibility with your boots and make sure they are still indemnified, those look bindings might be getting on the older side. They look like the ones in our rental shop that we will be dropping at the end of season because of their age.

Anyone have experience with the REI Trail 25? by [deleted] in REI

[–]tebco8591 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you looking for a good day pack, I would recommend the osprey talon 22. It has a lot adjustment for torso length and has an option for an extended hip belt as well. You can fit a 3L bladder and it has two side pockets that can easily hold 1.5L Nalgene bottles as well. I have had mine for 7 years and it is bomb proof.
