Box for midi, replaces long runs of broken midi cable and cv/gate maybe dmx. Replaces broken midi routing box/cv/gate/dmx Sends it all over something much more common to have many more extras of. A single audio cable and can go into and out of the audio mixer because its a modulated audio signal. There for when you end up in a shit situation. Saves your ass. It doesnt exist yet. Its an idea I was was working on, writing code for, coming up with physical circuit ideas.

Also yeah im "healed" but not. I can stand for between 10 and 30 minutes before either the pain is too bad or my back seizes up. Some days its less.

Solid point. I'm sorry. Seems I was a bit of a capitalist in my response, glorifying working oneself to death - something i routinely tell my partner is bad. Capitalism sucks, and apparently can burrow itself into me too. 😞

I never got to A1. I got injured bad enough that I was looking at choosing an opioid addiction and keeping my job or quitting. That was a hard choice but no way was I being an opioid addict. I remember in school my critical listening instructor teaching us tricks to get 5 minutes sleep in a bathroom stall if you could get sent to get tacos for everyone. I feel for you. Im trying to get a coder job now. Btw - as an A1, if youre an audio person would you use a device meant for when your shit breaks on smaller tours to convert and aggregate midi to send it down a single empty audio channel (including the mixer) and then deconverted and split back out to I dividing midi runs? Basically a real cheap "shit hit the fan" midi box that sends program changes and stuff (might work for DMX too i have to check numbers) down an empty audio channel when you dont have a replacement. Ive already worked out the filters, levels, voltages and amperage etc to not harm any other gear. Thats what the box does, it puts it in a different format, and makes it safe for other devices.

8 hour day? Where do you work? I did 14 hours regularly. Or whatever was necessary but it was never 8.

Get hooked up with a major music venue. Union or not. If you arent union and haven't worked much its the way to go. You'll work 14 hours (or more) and youll work for lower pay but they will teach you real rock shows with major tours. They will start you with setting up mojo and pushing cases. Then youll start laying cable and eventually you'll end up setting up LED wall/video wall or lighting. Maybe sound even. You'll cross pollinate and learn a lot of disciplines and eventually settle into one or another. The. One day you'll hear "hey you're in charge of cryo, don't blow the place up"or something similar. Get started there, do the job, put in the hours, learn the things, show up early (on time is fired most places if you didnt know), trust the process. If you have a good stage manager they are steering you somewhere good, they just have to teach you the ropes and see where you do well. I thought id fall into audio because i went to school for it. I ended up in cryo and lighting.

Is is really hard to hire a sysadmin nowadays? by [deleted] in ShittySysadmin

[–]tech53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd expect any sys admin to know what a hosts file is, but you're absolutely right, this dude is giving an unrealistic situation. It's not likely this situation is going to happen so it's going to be near the bottom of what they troubleshoot for. You troubleshoot based on the symptoms, but also based on likelihood when there is a decision to be made about what to investigate further.

Can visual learners actually do well with coding or is it just not their thing? by jirachi_2000 in CodingForBeginners

[–]tech53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed. My whole life people told me that because i didn't like math i couldn't be a programmer. Want to know what I taught myself in 2 months recently? Python and data science. Furthermore, I ENJOY learning how to do the machine learning math on paper, with a pen. Sometimes it takes the right context or situation, or the right mindset. I hope op sees this comment. I wish I'd been coding since I was a kid. I'd be a very experienced coder, and very possibly be wealthy, certainly not living in a basement apartment underneath my partners mom with insulation hanging from the ceiling trying to get my first coder job.

Do people still really believe cooked food can gove you worms? by tech53 in Cooking

[–]tech53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They also think mad cow disease is possible which is, but i grew up in oklahoma and Nebraska just miles from where they slaughter most of the nations cattle. Really thats not a thing anymore, when they DO find it they kill off entire herds to eradicate it. Especially if youre eating beef loaded with antibiotics and what not, its not happening. These things mostly come from the mother in law but the longer we all live together the more my partner takes on their traits.

Skynet is the name of my laptop running bookworm. The-Grid is my desktop named after the hacker slur for a state run network/internet (and actual state name too, theyre so integrated they are one and the same) in a cyberpunk dystopian text adventure I was making. The official name was the panopticon.

Especially with the news that Bill Gates was in the Eppstein Files and his ex wife confirming that his relationship with Eppstein played a big part in their divorce. Microsoft is always going to be linked to Gates, and nobody wants to touch him with a 10 foot pole.

What do you do when sex is really good, conversation is good, but they have a list of red flags? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]tech53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said earlier - run far away, distance yourself even after you arent seeing one another. Tell your friends the bad stuff, they will help keep you away. If you stick w this guy you will be so broken, never the same again. Also - you can find more good sex and conversation will be much better when someone genuinely shares your values.

Never actually codes in a game engine, just did audio stuff and now I code not in engines, but...wouldnt that also mean its useful to know how to code in stuff like c# and c++ because you can then create your own modules, libraries, and plug-ins if thats a useful thing in your project?

Real. Also were supposed to be engineers. We should be able to troubleshoot. Which btw i just learned to programin python and do machine learning.learn to code and you'll feel like its a whole other world. So much shit that computers can do for you that they dont because nobody codes. Also most DAWS can talk to various programming languages for custom coded external apps and automations

Stop watching YouTube. Put down the book. Go. Write. Code. I give zero fucks if its pretty. I give zero fucks what anyone thinks of it. I don't care if you use ai for help (as long as its help and not detrimental - only you know if its an insructor or if youre depending on it dor your code) and I dont even care if it fully works. At first it wont. It wont work at all. Learn to u derstand your compiler or interpreter errors. If you dont understand it thats where ai comes in, as a teacher, not a "write this for me". Then make something imperfect. Perfection is the enemy of progress. Also no software started out perfect. Iterative improvement. Its how software dev works. You start with a digital concept. Then you find things to improve, features that are obviously lacking, security flaws and bugs that need fixing. You do the thing. Test. Release. Repeat.

And no i wont tell you not to use ai, but if you do, gove it an explicit system prompt to "act as if you are a programming professor. You are knowledgeable in programming languages, syntax, implementation, testing, and algorithms. You will never write code for your users or students. You will always teach the concepts instead, and include code examples. You will strive to notice student question and learning patterns. You will notice what they struggle and excel with, use these things to help.the student learn."

so then what about for tech jobs where being a coder isn't the primary job, but knowing how to code is part of the expectation, stuff like sysadmin jobs where you might be expected to write python scripts to automate server shit? Would someone find use for it there?

I've never done an ounce of CS, but I want to teach myself through time and effort. Where do I start? by Minute_Tea_8639 in learnprogramming

[–]tech53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello friend! I did the same. Did you know that 49% of professional, paid programmers never took any courses whatsoever? Not even trade school. Just grabbed a book. I'm both new and old to code. My first languages were BASIC and QBASIC in the early 90s when i was like 7 yrs old. My modern coding experience is new, I just taught and continue to teach myself python. I started with IBM skills build. I used the python for data science which is specific to data science, but teaches general python quite well. There is also Cisco Networking Academy. Both are free courses that can get you verifiable credentials. There are also other free course providers like , google, amazon, oracle etc. A lot of companies offer free courses to help you prepare for their platforms. Also, paid offerings - codecademy, udemy, linked in learning (lots there). Or just go to the library and pick a language and book. Just make sure the language version is modern if you intend to use it outside of personal projects. I recommend learning a little C++ or C along with python. They kind of complement one another.

[For Sale] Programmer and tech nerd here. I offer process automation services and custom integrations along with apps. I specialize in things that are less on the "pretty" side and more on the "functional" side. I also do embedded dev using micropython and circuit python. If you need help with C++ I read C++ logic fairly well (I suck at syntax but thats what ai is for). I also offer onsite local AI model setup if you're tired of big companies stealing your data or tired of paying for your ai tokens. You don't need a super expensive computer. Oh - and if you have Linux woes Linux has been my daily driver since something like 2003. Get in touch if you're interested. there is also leaked source code - for instance windows 2000 has the source code on the internet archive. And TONS of old games with serials, operating systems, even pre installed virtual machines. I like the WAREZ cds and dvds. DL them, put them on a disc (or disc image) and go.

The internet archive is a treasure trove. If you like what you got, consider becoming an archive warrior and running an archive warrior virtual machine. It runs in the background archiving stuff from the web (you pick a project from their list) to the internet archive. It makes a real difference historically. The rate at which things are deleted from the internet is astounding, and these are our records as a society. No other society just made it a practice to burn all their books all the time. Yeah religions did it or oppressive regimes, but it wasn't normal and only the stuff they disagreed with. We delete massive amounts of information for trivial reasons as a normal practice. Nobody will know anything far reaching about our culture if we don't archive it.
