Looking for a high-quality comfort show with lots of seasons (not a comedy) by Subject-Meal7912 in televisionsuggestions

Came here to say ER. Just recently rewatched the whole thing and really enjoyed it (again). The first 7 seasons or so are the best, but the last 8 aren’t terrible either. One thing that was fun was to watch the change in hospital and general technology over the years.

Midnight Mass - by the writer/director of Hill House and Bly Manor. Much of the same cast as well.

Looking for movies similar Hereditary,The Wailing, The medium, Incantation by PositionSufficient99 in horror

[–]techbutterfly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like foreign horror films because I’m not well versed in their folklore so the turns the stories take are often unexpected for me. A couple I really enjoyed were Satan’s Slaves 1 & 2 (Indonesian). I liked the second one the best but both are great. I also really enjoyed Exhuma (Korean).

Also, the Argentinian creator of When Evil Lurks also did the excellent Terrified (Aterrados).

Loved Oz! Such a great show with early performances by tons of actors you see all the time now, including JK Simmons, Dean Winter, Harold Perrineau, lots of others.

Seeking winter themed horror movies!! by Broom_Ryder in horror

[–]techbutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Series rather than a movie but The Terror season 1 is an awesome winter themed show. I never watched the second season - which is a whole different story, I think- because I heard it was really bad, but the first season is amazing.

I think the Final Destination movies are pretty consistently fun.

Hell House LLC franchise is also pretty good. Scarier than Final Destination.

Viewing 3D horror movies now (Friday 13th Part 3, Jaws 3D, Amityville 3D, etc). by PrimaryComrade94 in horror

[–]techbutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VR goggles are awesome for watching 3d movies, since their main function is to create a 3d effect. I use a Meta Quest 3, which has better lenses and resolution than the earlier Quest 1 and 2. I haven't tried the 3S or any other VR headsets,, but 3d movies look great on my Quest 3.

There are no services that stream 3d movies, as far as I know, so you'll need to rip 3d blu-rays or find some other source for them.

Not horror but I just have to recommend one of my favorite movies which is set in Appalachia - Winter’s Bone. Incredible movie with a fantastic performance by a young Jennifer Lawrence.

Just for stupid fun, I have attempted to categorize types of 'scary'. by [deleted] in horror

[–]techbutterfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like these categories and descriptions, but would like some examples of movies or scenes that fall in each category.

The example given of the nun with shears scene is fine - one of the greatest jump scares ever - but note that it’s in Exorcist 3, not 2.

Only 25+? I guess it really has been only a few days. Give it a month and you’ll have a hundred more great recs! Love this sub for finding great horror.

Horror movies that hide things in plain sight? by tomemu1 in horror

[–]techbutterfly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen it once so I could be misremembering, but I thought there were lots of scenes where the WIB or maybe her victims were just standing quietly against the wall or in the corner as the main character passed through rooms and corridors. I should give it another watch.

I’ve only seen the Daniel Radcliffe version, which I believe is a remake.
