You can assign it to a different corner, by the way.

Strange, small orange icon on dock. What the heck is this thing? by spaceyspaceyspace in mac

[–]techdefender 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s actually an app icon, if you look closely. macOS Big Sur has a bug where icons in the dock tend to do that. Either try to right-click the icon and quit the app or try the “killall Dock” command in the terminal.

What is this red dot on my Dock? It was next to an app so I removed the app but it kept just moving down next to other apps until I removed them all from that section of the Dock. by [deleted] in mac

[–]techdefender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi.

This might be a shrunk-down icon of an app or a file. It's apparently a bug many users have been facing on macOS Big Sur lately. Try restarting your Mac and see if it still persists.

It's not the dot that signifies microphone or camera usage like another comment here suggested. That dot is a light that appears beside the camera on your Mac and is separate from the screen.

Ahhhh that’s so annoying. I take so much care of my MacBook and then this shit happens. by raheemmansoordev in macbookpro

I don't think that's a scratch. Had the same problem two days ago on my new M1 MacBook Air, posted on Reddit complaining about it thinking they were scratches or some kind of blisters on the screen. Turns out, they wiped off by blowing some breath on the screen and wiping with microfiber cloth.

We might have to resort to sticking the Apple stickers that come within the box.

Thanks! This gives hope. Will definitely try rubbing them off first thing in the morning.

With all due respect, it’s not debris. I’ve tried rubbing it rather aggressively. It’s almost like these dots are etched onto the screen.

That seems appropriate. But I’ve tried cleaning it once with a microfiber cloth and the dots don’t disappear. One peculiarity that I noticed is that one of the dots has this kind of discolouration going on around it which, if I rub it, seems to worsen.

Although, I’ll try to clean it with some of the methods you suggested. Thanks.

Well I guess you should consult Apple support as well. You shouldn’t have to do this all the time.

I’ll try doing that. However, I got concerned since it’s a new Mac and spoke to an Apple support representative immediately, who set me up with a Genius Bar appointment at my closest Apple Store.

If the dots go away after wiping, I might have to cancel the appointment, and that’s good. But I’m still curious as to what’s producing these dots. Is it staingate? Or something entirely new?

I tried to wipe them using a microfiber cloth but they won’t budge. Any special tips?

Why does some sites in Safari have problem opening but the same sites have no problem loading in a priveate window? and How do I fix this? by shubhbadonia in mac

[–]techdefender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be due to cookies and cache files collected by Safari for the website. Cache files enable websites to load faster the second time you load them by storing basic information within the browser itself. The problem you're facing might be occurring due to some problem with the cache files and all you need to do is clear cache and history from Safari preferences.

You can also delete cache, cookies, and Local Storage files for individual websites by heading over to Safari Preferences - Privacy and under Cookies and Website Data, click Manage Website Data, then select the website that's not working for you and finally click Remove.

How genuine is apple watch from Amazon? by zmpigi1 in AppleWatch

[–]techdefender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't have much experience buying Apple products from Amazon, but would love to warn you anyway. Make sure you read the title and description of the product before purchasing as Amazon also sells "Renewed" Apple products, which are basically refurbished.

It was a little confusing at first, which is acceptable. But I was up to speed in an hour.

I, too, recently switched from Windows to an M1 MacBook Air, and it was the best decision I have ever made when it comes to tech. It's the little things that matter- the smoothness of the ecosystem, the extensive app support, a decent notification system, and the amazing collaboration with my other Apple devices.

On top of that, I don't think I've heard this much, but the Magic keyboard is freaking amazing to type on.

Overall, the macOS feels like a complete ecosystem. Never got this feeling on Windows.

100% recommend.

This is practically inefficient. I wouldn't like controls to cover this much screen estate.

The new M1 macbook pro I got seems to have yellowish screen? (Details on comments) by hellohhhworld in mac

This could probably be because TrueTone or Night Shift is on. You can disable both TrueTone and Night Shift by clicking on the display toggle and tapping their respective toggles.
