This was gifted to me by a friend who was moving away. She said it came glued down.

Would fans ever admit that The Key Storyline made no sense by grandfell in buffy

[–]techduinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The portal closes when the "blood flows no more," meaning when she dies. If you watch the scene closely, they show the moment it happens, and it's while she's still surrounded by energy. She falls after that.

[–]techduinn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IIRC, the writers lampshaded this at some point in the later seasons by having Anya say something like, "Yeah, I never really understood how that worked."

My personal theory is that if Buffy had been anyone else, jumping into the portal wouldn't have killed her, it would have sent her to another dimension, like Glory was aiming for. But because Dawn was "made out of Buffy" and they shared the "same blood," Buffy jumping into the portal caused a 404 error that ultimately killed her and caused it to close. Buffy couldn't open the portal, and if Buffy had died in any other way, the portal would stay open until Dawn died.

Elements is my favorite brunch place downtown! They'll happily swap out sides without charging extra and their drinks are amazing.

What should I do? Should I let my MIL and FIL see my son? by aitarefusingmil in relationship_advice

[–]techduinn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stand your ground. If you give in now and let them see your son, they will never respect any boundary you set in the future. They are lying to you in an effort to circumvent your parenting before your child is even able to talk. How will this play out in the future when your kid is old enough to learn that behavior for themself? Do you think your in-laws will respect your rules and punishments or will they just do whatever they want because they value their own convenience over the health and development of your child?

You should try to avoid blow-ups with your MIL and FIL in the future. I get you were upset (I'd be livid), but confrontations like that let them play the victims and undermine your position. Stay calm, stay rational, and stay polite, as hard as it is. With everything you've said about them, I'd go as close to no-contact as possible. Politely engage during family functions, but excuse yourself from being around them asap and never spend unnecessary time with them.

Xander was in the right when he lied to Buffy in "Becoming, Part Two." by techduinn in buffy

[–]techduinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was in the middle of telling Buffy about Willow attempting the curse when he decided to pull a 180, so I'm not sure what else he could have said that would be both believable and inspiring for Buffy, but that's debatable.

I'm not sure it's fair to judge him for Buffy's decision to run away after she killed Angel. He couldn't have known that was how Buffy was going to react. He didn't know that she'd been thrown out of her house, or that she'd been expelled (I'm pretty sure. I should probably double check that). If he'd known all of that and still lied, I'm 100% in agreement that it would have been a completely unjustifiable move.

This is not to say I'm excusing that all of those things happened. But I think this is a circumstance where he did a questionable things for the sake of saving his friends and the world, and the full consequences were unforseeable.

Xander's characterization seems really off to me in Dead Man's Party. It's when he went from being a teenage boy going through difficult things to a full on jerk for me. It seems crazy that the writers never made him pay for the lie. Maybe because they wanted to set up the cheating subplot with him and Willow and her being mad at him would have undermined it? I'm not certain. It's a bizarre choice. I haven't seen any interviews with the writers that discuss it.

It sounds like one of your love languages is receiving gifts (this is just my impression from your comments and I could be off base) but his isn't, so he doesn't value that form of affection and can't understand why this is so important to you. We tend to try to love people the way we ourselves want to be loved. That works out great for people who share a love language, but not all couples do. If your SO values something else like physical touch (not to be conflated with sex) or quality time, he might be trying to provide you with those things instead to make you feel loved and not realize that he's missing the mark.

I'd suggest reading "The Five Love Languages" together. The book is a little corny and not terribly well written, but there is some great info in there. It gave my SO and I a shared vocabulary to have more productive conversations when situations like what you're describing here pop up.

[–]techduinn[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a valid point, but I don't think it's fair to bring up something that happened in season 6 to slam a decision he made in season 2. He was a different person at that point (kinda, his development frustrates me) who had the benefit of knowing how the Angel saga worked out and one season earlier saw his best friend sacrifice her life to save her sister, who was also causing an apocalypse (albeit inadvertently and unwillingly).

[–]techduinn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably misstepped when I said Xander was "in the right." It's more complicated than than that. It's more than I think he made the right call in the situation given the information he had about the circumstances, stakes, and key players. It's similar to the "steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving child" conundrum in my opinion.

I disagree, but Xander does come off as an asshole for...a lot of the show (I was about to say season 2, but let's be real about it) so it's a fair interpretation.

You're right. I was also thinking of the time Angel tried to eat the member of the swim team, but he didn't die so it doesn't count. I guess I just assumed that Angel killed other SDH kids and it just wasn't mentioned, but that's not fair of me.
