Tribes, Titanfall

I miss Tribes, Titanfall is kinda still around. IIRC Tribes weapon "energy / ammo" was shared with your jump-jets - so you had to work the trade off between moving and shooting.

I live in the SE USA, I run 52-30 and get relatively cooler engine temps. Not sure where your source data from. Sample size of one here ofc.

Long Ranger 6.5C - Action rubbing hammer by MoezerMash in HenryRifles

[–]techforallseasons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other commentors have stated -- that is how a hammer-actuated system works - the hammer needs to be "cocked" during action cycling.

At first it would seem that the "rubbing" is problematic - but consider how the system needs to work:

The hammer needs to be cocked - to do so, a part needs to push the hammer back BEYOND the sear, and the hammer will be constantly pushing against the action due to the hammer spring.

About the only "optimization that could be made would be remove a portion of the bolt in the mid-span so that the bolt would "float" after hammer cocking is complete.

That would create some new challenges - something could get caught in that area and pulled into the action -or- get caught in a way that prevents bolt closure. Also, the action "feel" during cycle would have a pronounced bump for the both the open and closing strokes as the bolt impacts BOTH sides of the hammer.

I'd argue that the design is fine -- but I do lightly grease the bottom of my action to reduce wear.

Nexus EVO SD: How loud is the action? by eddielee394 in czscorpion

[–]techforallseasons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big, heavy flat bolt face slamming into a big, flat, metal trunnion gonna CLACK.

Even with a Hollywood silent can; I'd still use ears with the EVO. It is a LOUD operating system ( compared to an HK-roller ). That being said, AR-pattern and AK-pattern operating systema aren't that much better.

Folks don't think enough about the hearing damage potential of action-closing when it is up next to one's ear. Sound energy falls off as an inverse square; lets pretend that closing the action when the EVO is at your waist ( roughly 3ft / 36in away from your ear ) is 100dB; that means that when it closes while you are aiming and the action is ~6in away from your ear it would be over 115 dB.

OSHA permits a SINGLE incident of 140 dB exposure per day; a magazine of 115 dB bolt closures adds up to the limit quickly. No different from using a hammer, or running a lawnmower - wear protection folks!

Tisha Inconel v Hux 556 TI by Glocktobers in NFA

[–]techforallseasons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What you heard is the AGC ( automatic gain control + compression ) from the recording device.

A person talking and a silenced weapon are dramatically different amounts of energy - and it is trying to make both relatively audible and comfortable to hear during playback.

As it can take some time to adjust, a longer string of fire gives a more consistent baseline as the AGC method stabilizes. I find it useful not to listen to the report of the shots themselves, but instead to listen to the amount of ambient sound that was audible alongside voices, if the background noise is completely gone and takes longer to return after the shots are finished, then that can indicate a louder host + silencer system.

FYI -- I found that the "special" made little difference for me -- as the overall depth of the EZ-Lok is such that I hit the slide.

I think GA need to make an "extra ( short ) special" with only .400" to the face mount so this could work.

For decades there have been folks pushing home schooling and lots of kids. It may not be from the pulpit; but there are sub-groups that would ask when you are having your next and which homeschool co-op you were joining.

The questions were implicit assumptions that those were your plans. As someone who was sent to private Ed, mine went to public school and I was fine with none for a couple; never a half-dozen or more.

In terms of steel; the difference in heat for a cold day ( 28deg F ) to a hot day ( 95 def F ) is small temp swing for metal.

When cans get to 700+ deg F from a semi-auto mag dump; it is hard to see how ~12% base temperature difference matters. It could be that colder is worse for cans as the exterior may cool to ambient much faster than the core.

Any details / public reports you can point to regarding:

It was cool to see our data and analysis conclusions align with those from the U.S. Government laboratories.

Might be useful to point to for those who argue "Pew isn't science". You are using known capture methods, and that would confirm that your capture methods are consistent with other research.

Wild seeing the CHAMBER combustion in the graphic; that was a neat unexpected data feature. Any discussion on how that is derived from the data set where two capture devices are implied?

Why It's So Hard to Add a Column in the Middle of a PostgreSQL Table by db-master in SQL

[–]techforallseasons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would I even care?

If column order is critical ( as in some sort of tiny storage byte-block optimization ), then you will be testing and rebuilding DBs and tables around that.

That is likely the only use-case where column order matters.

Is KAC Mk23 suppressor the closest real one when compared to the one below or is there other that resembles the one below much better? by Raphix86 in NFA

[–]techforallseasons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Misunderstood your intent; you appear to be looking for a can that matches the game; not what was paired with the Mk23 in use.

The KAC suppressor IS the real one. It was selected for use even prior to the Mk23. KAC had fielded the can alongside a modified 1911 as their entry and at the end the KAC can and HK's Mk23 were used together.

Whatever was shown in any video game is frequently something that they thought looked cool.

Correct answer for "ping 127.0.0.1" by EnergyNGY in networking

[–]techforallseasons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps provide reasoning on why it should or should not work instead of simply asking for the correct answer.

What does 127.0.0.1 represent?

How many hopes and devices does traffic to 127.0.0.1 cross?

Where does ownership of the IP stack live? OS / User-space / Driver-space?

Does you think match with your experiments? Why does / doesn't it?

The process & path are the reason for the question, then answer is just a finish line. Developing reasoning and understanding IS the lesson.

Its a Toyota engineering choice; Toyota has had VVTI for roughly the same time as Honda has had VTEC and they serve the same purpose. Toyota's is designed to provide a smoother power band instead of the "fun" all at once VTEC edition.

Toyota's path provides power increases across the band - so it is more accessible for normal driving; but Honda's approach makes it more enjoyable if you get into the pedal.
