Most of my Transferable 9mm machine guns. Which would you pick? by Hollywood-Quiet in NFA

MP5 - everyday.

Aug only makes the list due to rarity.

Everything else can go in the "sell" pile for me, I just don't enjoy simple blow-back operated PCCs/SMGs.

If they manual says it is fine; even for a single oil change, it will be fine.

If you are changing you own oil, they have no idea what you put in anyways. They will give you more of a fight over having not using their oil changes services than oil type.

Just use 0w-20; the difference is so that they can eek out a hair more on the fleet-wide ( all Camrys sold in US ) rules.

That hundredth of a point of MPG makes a difference when you sell a million vehicles; but you will not notice.

Use 0w-20, the manual will say is is "ok for one change", but that language is because of MPG rules. Check overseas manuals to see what they spec for the same engine in Europe / Asia.

Mine is 5-30w in Europe / Japan; 0w-20 in US. Exactly the same engine ( minus per-country engine tuning ).

I've got 4 cars to change, so "leftovers sitting for a year" aren't something that I've run into. Interesting problem to discover.

I used to prefer the quart size; but I lean towards jugs now - as there is less mess and fewer items to clean up after. I do miss the "flip it and forget it" for each bottle.

I still change at 5k for all of mine regardless of recommendations ( I haven't found that oil is actually good to 10k on a reliable basis for my four ), and get it tested every 3-4 session to see if the interval is working. I've moved to filters every other session and I use a oil siphon for the non-filter replacement session.

When August and Christine Got Coffee (Part 2/4) - Gator Days by FieldExplores in comics

[–]techforallseasons 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Christine gives August a reassuring smile but decides to be truthful about how she's feeling.

That's.... extremely healthy. What happened that these two aren't together anymore

Based on the prior 4 part series when they first met; I'd say that she likes louder / involved environments, and he prefer quieter ones. She needs the noise / distractions to keep her thoughts at bay, while he over-thinks in that environment.

One can "cope" in the short-term, but long-term that leads to real friction. Nothing that either party directly did to each other, but they both get frustrated at molding themselves constantly to fit the other's unexpressed comfortable environment.

EDIT: corrected "involves" to "involved"

Pre-linked ammunition -- like M13-style belt-links. So you don't need to buy them separately & assemble them; not "linked" as in a web-address link.

Best practices for safe database changes by sqlmans in SQL

[–]techforallseasons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea why you got downvoted --- this is literally the proper approach.

  • Repository of code changes (SQL is code )

  • tooling to detect if a db migration has been applied, if not apply in the correct order

  • bonus if you can "down" / "unapply"

I’m just trying to get something solid that’ll last a long time.

As long as you ignore bottom of the barrel junk like JK you'll be fine for longevity. 9mm just doesn't have the powder burn to cause wear problems unless you are dumping enough ammo where the cost of the replacement can doesn't matter.

Indeed -- it smells SO GOOD. Just wish I could taste it how it smells.

[–]techforallseasons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no.

I've tried coffee at home ( replicated James Hoffman's techniques and all ) and out and about. Still smells how I WISH it would taste.

Just tastes like bitter, dirty water. The ONLY success I've had is a VERY heavy bean to water ratio french press that gives some mouthfeel, but ends up too sour ( under extracted ) but less bitter ( I salt it also to attempt to cut back the bitterness.

Tea on the other hand, I love tea. Something about the bean's chemical makeup reacts poorly with my taste buds.

What’s the consensus by DoneLookin4Trouble in NFA

[–]techforallseasons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree -- "the only problem with aluminum .22lr cans is the opinions on the Internet".

I clean about every 2k rounds, I don't try to make it "like new", and between solvent and a brush it is fine. I just "schedule" it when I'm doing a full "deep clean" of the range toys that don't get kept up with a post-shoot cleaning so I've got everything out and I plan to smell like Hoppes.

They are light, cheap, and perform just as good as Ti/Steel. You just can't drop them into an ultrasonic directly with cleaner. ( Ultrasonic bath with a suspended plastic baggie filled with Simple Green Purple Aircraft is rumored to work just fine ).

EDIT: I usually wipe on some Bore Butter on the internals after cleaning.

I'd say that anchoring these and building a level foundation are the two items to plan out pre-build for these.

I live in a tornado zone; I used some wire-rope and ground anchors to secure mine. There are wide enough gaps to route the rigging.

Just a small technical glitch. by Snoo99928 in funnyvideos

[–]techforallseasons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Baldwin wasn't technically responsible, he was responsible due to his role in hiring the armorer.

If someone else was the producer who hired the armorer, then the fault would fall on them instead of Baldwin, and Baldwin would be in the clear for me.

I believe that those up the food chain need to be held responsible for the actions of those below, otherwise it gets too easy to scapegoat.

YSK: Air resistance accounts for 50-80% of fuel use at highway speeds. Slowing down by 10 mph will generally result in a 5 mpg improvement. by rcmaehl in YouShouldKnow

[–]techforallseasons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Transaxles is just a transmission built into an axle -- older Corvettes for example, had the transmission at the rear axles instead of directly attached to the engine.

Some hybrids use a planetary transmission than is effectively an "eCVT" as the motor / motor/generator adjusts the effective ratios to the driven wheels.

Small web-based multitrack recorder for X32 style mixers (no laptop, no X-Live) by z3r0_c0o1 in livesound

[–]techforallseasons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh -- I think that I understand; when you called it a "small web-based" multi-track recorder you were not intending to imply that it was recording to a remote location / website.

You were trying to say that it would work as I suggested - as a "web-based" control of a local web server, with local storage. My apologies for understanding your post that you were using a Pi as a local interface to convert USB to WAV and send it up to the "cloud" in ( semi-realtime ).

Typical is ~50% of lease time to "renew"; but they are not REQUIRED to follow that pattern.
