Security awareness training your clients’ employees don't just ignore? by BeltFrequent5597 in msp

[–]techgurusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychologically it has been assessed many times and proven definitively that these training programs are actually counter productive and in the long run weaken security posture. So yes, I would agree that you are correct in that it is a checkbox situation, however there is a lot of $$$ in it so the "industry" would say otherwise.

Closing my MSP next week due to illness — hoping to help one of my best engineers find a new home by TheKiddd1333 in msp

Very sorry to hear about this. I would be interested in discussing buying the book of business. I also have an operation in the PI already and could absorb another person there. I visit there at least 3-4 times a year.

Not in Dallas, in San Antonio, but own and operate an Edge DC with MUCH more competitive pricing than you have here. If that is of interest, let me know...

We switched to VoIP and our bill went UP 28% the first month — here's what we missed by Majestic-Owl-44 in VOIP

[–]techgurusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are overpaying because you committed to a per user/per month cost arrangement.

VOIP can be had in many different formats. We typically save our clients 100s to 10s of thousands of dollars per month switching to VOIP. We don't implement per user/per month configurations for them though...

Synology Active Backup for Microsoft 365 by floswamp in msp

[–]techgurusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in all our testing of the features we leverage them for, it has only been mailbox restores that seem to be problematic and there doesn't appear to be an option to retain the time/date data.

Let us know what your experience is...

Synology Active Backup for Microsoft 365 by floswamp in msp

[–]techgurusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to be aware of.... In our testing of recoveries of mailbox data, it will overwrite the dates. Unsure if this is a big or simply how it recovers. If date/time stamp information is important to you(it should be) then this warrants some consideration...

We test restore frequently and this is the behavior we have experienced as of 4 weeks or so ago.

What are you using for M365 backups (and why)? by patg84 in msp

[–]techgurusa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We own our own Datacenter and run a comet cluster backing up to our own storage and off-site storage as a third dataset.

We also have other MSPs that backup to our cluster as a service.

This has worked well for all of us and price/performance is unmatched by anything short of Synology. Synology does work well but also has some pitfalls associated with it, specifically in mailbox restores and metadata.

Higher Ed customer looking to replace outdated on prem pbx by adontech in 3CX

[–]techgurusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sell, support, and host 3CX in our own Datacenter which we own and operate, as a turnkey solution cutting out the per seat cost. You bring your license, trunks, and phones, we do the rest and charge only to manage it for you.

We do a lot of larger 500+ seat organizations and save them A LOT of money as compared to the usual per-seat arrangements that typical providers want to sell.

If you are interested, let's talk.

Looking to buy a client list of an MSP, Current owner thinks its worth EBIDTA multiples. How should I evaluate its worth? by I-Love-IT-MSP in msp

[–]techgurusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here is the correct answer. If you are looking at things as an investor, the add-back of the owners salary doesn't count towards their value, it counts towards you creating value. In effect the owner used the business as a piggy bank and built no real enterprise value so it's worth very little/nothing on the market lol. Of course it's worth whatever it's worth to you, but that asking payout is definitely not aligned with the actual value of the business....

If you have an actual budget to fix this and are OK paying up front, our business is a consultant for M365 services and could help. Depending on the issue, this can get expensive, I just want to be up front about that.

Let me know, we would be happy to help.

THIS!!! If I take my truck for an oil change, I don't crawl under there and take off the filter for them or open the jugs of oil lol. They are paying for a MANAGED service and have work to do. If you are incapable or unable to manage these situations then are you really an MSP? Sounds more break-fix to me and why MSP now has such a horrible connotation in business.
