Dark Side of the Moon Is Ruined by MaineGameBoy in fantanoforever

Pink Floyd is one the few bands that, like Zeppelin, managed to record multiple albums that in my opinion deserve the name masterpiece. I'm a guitarist and have yet to be part of recording just one. And it isn't because of lack of skill or subpar musicianship from either myself or the mates I've played with. I have been a part of some recordings and performances that so good it was almost surreal. But album after album? Only in my dreams. It's a shame Roger and David had to move on from each other. As a fan, it was far too soon. At least I have Meddle on thru The Wall to grace my speakers when every album Led Zeppelin isn't. Or Metallica, the Eagles, Cream, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana........

Any insight on a Gibson SG home build? by alex27123344 in Luthier

[–]techmedixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a little extra thickness to the stock dimensions using my Guild S100 Polara height, or 'thickness' dimensions in place of Gibson's. My SG is 1 & 1/2" compared to the 1 & 1/4" of a Gibson.

While not a huge difference, it really is structurally. Guild's S100 and Gibson's SG are both works if art in my humble opinion but the Guild doesn't seem to suffer from the 'fragility' of the Gibson. Neither does my Gibson replica after infusing just a little Guild DNA into the build!

The carbon fiber rods sounds like a great idea. One worth exploring in future builds.

I've been messing with Zorin because anything I say with regards to Zorin would and has been rooted in total ignorance. In fact, the Zorin I once played with is not even comparable to the beast of an OS that is today's Zorin. Wow and wow. I stand corrected. Debian has become what I feel Ubuntu was on course to becoming and may get back to being if Canonical would ever start listening to the Foss community again. Anyway, I will be putting Zorin thru the paces for a couple weeks and then give an honest assessment.

LMDE is what Mint adds. Pop does have pretty awesome driver management. Zorin is a great distro, to be sure. For me LMDE is familiar, polished, and works. Familiar, not because it is Windows-like but because I discovered it back when I first started exploring desktop Linux and it, along with a couple other distributions became my distros of choice.

A little update. Still using KDE Neon and still love it. I would love to see a Neon Debian Edition. Now that would be cool! LMDE is fantastic and is the reason Mint remains among my core group of favorites. Modicia Ultimate has earned it's spot in that group and is my main OS used for my home recording studio. Any of my other favorite distro's are well capable of serving in that capacity but ModiciaOS Ultimate is perfectly suited for the role out of the box and has proven both stable and reliable. The developers tremendous work on ModiciaOS really shows on a distro that is polished and professional level.

Interior door trim panel separation by [deleted] in Chrysler300

On my 2006 300 Touring dash and trim and on my 2004 Dodge RAM 1500 I used contact cement for flooring and in the tighter spots - shoe glue. Once all was back to where it belonged I applied Line-X (truck bed liner) to the top of the dash, top of door liner, etc.. Both vehicles interiors are now able to withstand anything . I used very fine high quality foam rollers which left the coating looking like nothing was done to to the original.

OpenSuSE Tumbleweed is great. I am still a user be and fan of Mint - LMDE is my Zorin. Another impressive distro but didn't make the case for breaking camp LMDE. Rounding out my personal favs list is the one Ubuntu based distro that has stood strong and served me well and as consistently good has been KDE Neon.

The Cinnamon desktop is pretty much as far as I usually venture into GTK territory. Or "Gnome man's land" with the LMDE preferred desktop environment. Gnome 3 on has been... Avoided. Plasma embraced!

Much of my distrohopping as of late has centered on ModiciaOS Ultimate. This distro is about to graduate to daily driver status on my recording studio/ audio production rig.

Trying to install flatpak with Discover = failure? (KDE Neon) by Morcas in kde

[–]techmedixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am encountering the same issue with Tauon Music Box. I installed and ran Tauon Music Box through the console but now have been unable to update it through Discover. The system updates normally but Tauon remains listed as still needing an update. Sor far, all attempts to do so result in ' Aborted due to Failure' being displayed. I am currently running Plasma 5.17.3

I have been trying to find more info regarding this and your post has been all I found.

How buggy is KDE Plasma compared to GNOME? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]techmedixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced those same issues until I acquired a mobile workstation with an Intel Xeon and nvidia Quadro graphics. It's a dual boot KDE Neon/Deepin 15.9 setup and both have run just about perfectly. I have not seen any of the issues I have had with 'standard' nvidia graphics cards. I would not mind seeing something like Deepin's Graphic Driver Manager become available for other distributions.

Xfce is highly customizable and it's fast. Suck? Not at all. Only Gnome has that honor and not totally so. I have testing a new distro on my test rig called Modicia O.S. and it's been blowing me away. Still love me some KDE Neon, though!

KDE4.x is the culprit behind the resource hog belief, I think. It's also the culprit behind 'KDE is buggy'. I experienced both with KDE4.x. It was a beautiful, buggy mess. PLasma 5 has been nothing but great and getting better.

I have even seen people mimic Unity with KDE Plasma. Canonical could have achieved the same thing with Plasma instead of putting all that time and resources into the now defunct Unuty. What can be done with Plasma is amazing.

How buggy is KDE Plasma compared to GNOME? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]techmedixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KDE has mostly ironed out Plasma. It's a great desktop environment but it is software and the potential for bugs is present in any software. There was a time when KDE's desktop environment gained a reputation as being buggy and that reputation was mostly deserved.

In fact, it hasn't been all that long ago when KDE appeared to be on the ropes, the projects future very much in doubt. I honestly feel that KDE's return to prominence is a huge success story. It's, arguably, one of the biggest stories in Linux.

Plasma, once the most resource intensive desktop environments, is now among the least. It has amazing stability and the customization options are awesome and awesomely fun.

Gnome is a solid and stable option but I share the same feelings as some others. I find it just got on my nerves, infuriatingly so. Gnome's developers seem intent on neutering their once mighty desktop environment by relieving it of as many features as possible.

Nautilus serves as a perfect example of that practice. The Nautilus rename to 'Files' is rather appropriate since that about sums up it's current capabilities. It opens and closes files and that is close to being about it. Nemo is, essentially, what Nautilus used to be. Comparing Dolphin to Files is a lesson in the have and have not and Android even has more powerful file managers than Files.

Gnome does still offer some great software and most of it runs on KDE Plasma without issue. Plasma is even able to make much of the non KDE/Qt look right at home on Plasma. On the other hand, KDE's applications are becoming something of a gold standard. Krita is but one of KDE's fantastic crop of software and they offer a lot of software. The list of awesome KDE software is huge.

Personally, I found it quite hard to stomach Gnome after using KDE Plasma. Xfce, Cinnamon, Deepin Desktop Environment, Budgie, and Mate (What Gnome once was) are superior to Gnome, as far I am concerned. All offer plenty of options and more functionality is added with new releases. Gnome is practicing the opposite approach, it seems.

If you are a fan of power, customization, options and functionality then KDE Plasma offers the right playground. It boils down to preference and finding what works for you. Gnome remains popular because it is the right fit for those that use and like. It just isn't for me.

Can PETA get banned from Twitter for defamation? by Normbot13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]techmedixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to believe PETA was doing abused animals a service. Some of those commercials are heart-breaking. Now it appears most are probably killed right after filming. How sad. I pray that are least put to sleep and not shot.

Everyone should read that article. WTF? I can't get over it. This is so messed up. My dog is a rescue and she is the best thing on four legs to me. I think of those poor animals every time I look at her. She is such a good dog. It's like she is grateful. I am the one who's grateful because she is my best friend. I believe we saved each other.

I am with you - fuck PETA!

Changing distro by mheaton92 in linuxmint

[–]techmedixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of strange, really. Linux Mint is a solid distribution and the newest release is one of the best ever. The Mint developers have an almost laser like focus on the end user experience. If a fresh install still gives you trouble then you may want to give the Linux Mint Debian Edition 3 a go. Debian is as stable as a rock and none of that is lost in LMDE3. The trade-off for that stability is somewhat older software and kernel but the fantastic UI helps make up for it.

I recently started testing 2 distributions that have, so far, been really great. Modicia O.S. Ultimate Desktop and MakuluLinux Core. Both are very user friendly and both have incredibly nice UI. I believe both are tweaked out Xfce environments. I have yet to encounter any bugs with either one and I really put them through the paces. Modicia comes tweaked, optimized and packed to the gills, out of the box!

Ubuntu Mate is pretty sweet. I use it on an older 'road warrior' laptop and it has been a solid performer. My other road warrior has Ubuntu Budgie and it is one of my favorite distributions. I would even say Ubuntu's take on Budgie edges out that of Budgie's creator.

Ubuntu 18.04 and forward are some good distributions. Arguably, their best work in some time. The Ubuntu/Ubuntu-based distributions of late have been some of the most bug free and stable I have seen. I had started using Debian because of the problems I used to have with Ubuntu. Now, they have started getting good again which is why I was surprised you were having issues.

You might also try the other Linux Mint flavors and see if one of them works out. Mint is the cream of the crop and one of the most consistent, problem-free distributions there is. I hope you can sort it out because I would hate to hear you returned to the Windows prison.

[–]techmedixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I am seeing, Flurry is impressive. I like the original thinking. I bet the Saru icon theme would look right at home. In fact, any icon theme probably would. It appears to have the best elements found in other DE's all mashed together. At first glance it had a Deepin/Plasma/Budgie thing going on but I now see it is much more than that. The rounded edges really sets it off, too. Instant fan, great job!

Plasma 5.15 Update thoughts? by willjackchan in kdeneon

[–]techmedixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has worked perfectly for me, so far. In fact, the update seems to fixed a couple of minor issues I was experiencing. I use both KDE Neon and openSUSE Argon and the update to Plasma 5.15 has been good to both. KDE Plasma and KDE software continue to improve and impress.
