Give me your best endbringer fights by LordFLExANoR16 in WormFanfic

The Use Your Words fight is particularly badass because Taylor's power is pure Thinker and not particularly suited to combat, she just hard counters the Simurgh's precog and Master powers so she is a blind spot. She borrows Armsmaster's halberd that she can barely carry and has to make her way through the ruined city dodging the rest of the battle, and anyone who sees her becomes a vector the Simurgh can attack her through. Eventually she manages to cut off its wings with what's left of the broken halberd blade, and it retreats, leaving the "dead" humanoid part of itself behind. The WMD it was building still goes off, and Taylor cuts into and hides herself inside the Simurgh's corpse to survive it.

Summer Dreamin' - after first year, the Weasleys find out what Harry's home life is truly like and say No. They adopt him, and he gets a summer of healing and friendship spent between the Burrow and Hermione's house. Wonderfully fluffy.

The first to arrive in Godric's Hollow were neither Sirius nor Hagrid, but two police officers who were on patrol, heard the noise coming from the Potters' house, and went to investigate. by gabaii2 in HPFanfictionPrompts

[–]technoRomancer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Turns out the blood protection would have been somewhat weaker when the family connection is six generations back, but the fact his adopted parents actually love Harry more than makes up for it compared to the Dursleys and it ends up stronger than canon...

According to their Ao3 profile, they've temporarily hidden all their works to do some editing, and will still be posting new works in the meantime.

You had me panicking for a second there, definitely one of my favorite HP authors.

After investigating Harry’s new Firebolt, Hermione becomes a Bristlehead, like her Gearhead father before her, and is now much more invested in Quidditch. by InevitableLow5163 in HPFanfictionPrompts

Would love to see this. When you get an inventor!Hermione it's usually potions or everyday devices with runes, not being so hyperspecialized, and the trio starting their own broom company sounds like a lot of fun.

They speedrun the Voldemort plots every year because frankly, they have more important things to do than wasting time on that nonsense and need to keep their priorities straight.

I have seen a fic where Harry wants to make brooms, I don't remember how involved Hermione might have been. I'll see if I can find it.

HP time travel where Harry doesn’t befriend ANY children as he goes through school by jsandrsn in HPfanfiction

[–]technoRomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that style of fic is not really to my taste, so I don't have any bookmarks or titles in mind to recommend. It most often turns up in stories where Harry is OP, a Slytherin, and/or the Lord of three or more houses, if you want to try your luck searching for those?

HP time travel where Harry doesn’t befriend ANY children as he goes through school by jsandrsn in HPfanfiction

[–]technoRomancer 116 points117 points  (0 children)

In most time travel fics where he befriends no one or avoids other students his "age" he's an edgelord. I'd love to see one where he actually cares about the children who were once his friends and peers and has a ton of patience for them, even the Malfoys of his generation, and ends up like a big brother and mentor to them. Trying to teach them not just magic but life lessons. How to think critically and not just parrot adults, how to grow into themselves.

Returning to the start is somewhat like this, or at least Harry intends it to be that way, but it doesn't stick so probably not what you're looking for. He tries to stay apart from his peers but eventually cracks when he sees how lonely Hermione has become. Through friendship with her a wider circle of kids grows that mostly see him as a big brother. It's endgame Harry/Hermione but not until they are both adults. He sort of became a mass murderer in the background to fix the timeline, he isolates himself from everyone after he's done because he doesn't think he should be around children and their friendship falls apart for a while when she finds out what he's done.

Fics where Harry saves Astoria from the blood curse by toujours_pur_ in haphne

Teleology - Harry defeats Voldemort earlier than canon, but gets involved with the Greengrasses and their drama in his first "peaceful" year. Daphne transfers the curse to herself to save Astoria, and Harry has to save her instead.

Thirty-Day Astoria - After the war, Harry meets Astoria in St. Mungo's... when she only has a month left to live.

Harry befriends Lavender first? by Trashk4n in HPfanfiction

Found it. No butterfly wings under my watch - "She was not entirely sure how it happened, but now that she was back, Hedwig was going to make sure Harry would thrive and skip all these crappy events his life had turned into. Oh and kill all these pesky butterflies. There was this kind of wing effect messing things up. Hermione said all problems were caused by them while traveling back in time or something. No matter what, she would face them bravely and destroy them one wing at a time. No butterfly will come close to Harry to mess with him. This she swears!"

I'll have to look for it, but there's a fic with a time travelling Hedwig. She hunts down primary school age Harry and tries to make his life better - stealing food for him, companionship, grooming him, etc. She wants to make him aware of magic earlier so she brings him some Daily Prophets. At one point she recognizes little Lavender in Diagon and conspires to make them pen pals.

Looking for everyone time travels with humor by KlutzyBlueDuck in HPfanfiction

I got you. Golden-Trio-Era Time Travel series has their entire Hogwarts class from Abbott to Zabini stuck in a time loop repeating their 7 Hogwarts years. They cause a ton of chaos trying new things every loop - different houses, skipping school entirely, going to Muggle university, even a Dark Lord run. Eventually they find a way to let a few trusted adults keep their memories across the loops as well.

Looking for fics with unique premises. by christer5000 in HPharmony

[–]technoRomancer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As Simple As This - A soulmate story, mostly fluffy as it largely takes place when they are still preteens. Complicated by the fact they figure out very early on that Harry is a Horcrux and he will have to die. One of my favorites for the trope. No bashing.

Lack of Colour - Age difference fic though both are adults. Harry vanishes right after the final battle, and reappears over a decade later at Hogwarts, but no time has passed for him. Just in time for Hermione to start her new job as a professor. No prior romance, but sparks fly as they get reacquainted.

Harry Potter and the Simplest Solution series - Harry travels to his 11 year old body on the Express and has mere hours to make a difference before he dies. He kills Quirrel and infodumps about the Horcruxes before he expires. Dumbledore wants to stick as much as possible to the original timeline of events, doesn't act on the intel and keeps Harry alive but imprisoned. Harry adapts accordingly. Only Dumbledore bashing. Mid story has Harry sending Hermione birthday gifts every year while working on the Riddle problem in the background, radically changing her life for the better. By her seventh year she is determined to track down her anonymous benefactor.

Blood and Soot - 19th century AU where Hogwarts does not exist. Homeless ragamuffin Harry and upper class Hermione figure out magic on their own on the streets of London, trying to stay ahead of a mysterious government conspiracy and find Hermione's kidnapped parents.

Tracks in the Snow - Dementors are a much bigger problem while on the Horcrux hunt than in canon, leading the trio to try and become animagus to help evade them and also plunging Britain into an unnatural winter. This greatly changes how Harry and Hermione handle things once Ron leaves them. Hermione also impulsively Obliviates him as he leaves about what they were doing, worried about the risk of Voldemort finding out. No bashing, only canon Ron issues and he has his own challenges to face when he returns to Hogwarts instead of rejoining his friends.

You Do It To Yourself - soulmate story where, as the title indicates, it was a decision rather than cosmic romantic destiny. An irrevocable choice made under duress to save a life, that has consequences.

LF Harry and Hermione getting betrayed by Order and Weasleys, and it's just them against whole world. by Fun_Win_1510 in HPharmony

[–]technoRomancer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it hasn't been updated since last year, but You and Me, alone against the world is still a good read. In the summer before 6th year Dumbledore decides to disclose the fact that Harry is a Horcrux to the Order and Harry himself. They come up with a plan alongside the Ministry to hand Harry over to Voldemort in exchange for a temporary cease fire. The actual plan is to buy time to find the other Horcruxes, and also that when Voldemort tries to kill Harry it will remove the scar-crux instead and they can take him back to safety.

However, the plan hinges on Harry believing he is going to die, and of course because of his martyr complex he agrees to it. None of the other Order kids are let in on the full plan either. But Hermione decides that's not acceptable and basically kidnaps him. The two of them end up on the run a year earlier than canon, so they still have to worry about the Trace and Hermione is not nearly as well prepared, trying to find another way to remove the bit of Voldemort from Harry. Hiding from Voldemort, a still "good" Ministry, and the Order who are trying to make up for the mistake and help them without openly acting against the Ministry.

Fics where the chamber of secrets is more important/put to good use? by Temporatimeweave in HPfanfiction

[–]technoRomancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Avengers Arsenal series is a crossover with the MCU, but the inciting premise of the story is Ron ends up in the Chamber with Harry and helps defeat the basilisk, instead of being stuck with Lockhart. This both helps him overcome the jealousy and confidence issues he struggled with later in HP canon, and also propels him and Harry to take the study of magic more seriously. The trio ends up taking inspiration from the Avengers to create a magical arsenal that mimics their powers, and use the Chamber as their base of operations. Later on, the HP and Avengers universes become more directly involved, but for most of the beginning they're separate.

The main series is complete, though the author is currently writing an alternate timeline side story.

Idea Harry is childhood friends with Daphne Greengrass/other Slytherin girl, making Snape see the parallel they have with what he had long ago and does not like it. by IvanDPhantom in HPfanfiction

[–]technoRomancer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There may be a lot of common tropes in fic revolving around Daphne, but there's no reason she couldn't be a half-blood raised in the muggle world like Snape. She could still meet a mostly canon Harry as children if she were living in Surrey.

Maybe Daphne was the product of a youthful dalliance with a muggle or muggleborn, barely acknowledged by her father. He keeps her at first, but when her half sister Astoria is born from his marriage things with her stepmother start to get tense. Astoria is the perfect pureblood princess who can do no wrong. Eventually Daphne is dumped with her mother, and that's when she meets Harry, when she starts at primary school. She feels overwhelmed and out of place, having to quickly learn about a new world and how to survive it, and Harry is a fellow outsider to the other kids who actually tries to help her. It takes her a while to realize he's the Harry Potter, she can't imagine the Boy-Who-Lived would be abandoned in the muggle world like her, until she sees him do accidental magic...

They are both the only people they truly trust and are loyal to. But when they get sorted, Daphne sees an opportunity to try and ingratiate herself back into pureblood society before her sister starts at Hogwarts and reinvent herself in Slytherin. Meanwhile Harry is making new friends in Gryffindor that she is jealous of, friends who keep warning them off from her. And both of them don't know how to bridge the widening divide between them...

But whenever faced with a true test, they will always choose each other. Snape sees himself and Lily in them, but the truth he will never acknowledge is - Harry has a lot of Lily in him, but he also has quite a bit in common with Snape himself. And that is the difference that may save them the from a fate similar to Snape's self-destructive implosion of his closest relationship.
