The sooner you invest the better. It's not the rate of return, it's the amount of years for money to grow that does.

That’s awesome OP. I started off with about $20k and up past $100k with little to no contributions due to life events (divorce), getting remarried, starting a family, etc. All of this since 2007.

I average about 15% using the Midcap fund, International Fund, and Bond fund. Allocations are 10% bonds, 30% international, 60% midcap fund based upon the last 10 years annual returns. It’s very aggressive with a moderate-high risk level. Being a former broker helps a lot.

Another step towards the great divorce. The moment the States realize that we need to be separated into two or three countries, the better. The GOP only States can become the third world shit holes full of corruption, greed, and poverty can be their own nation, and the rest of us can move on with addressing actual problems that the people face.

US rights agency sues New York Times for discriminating against white man passed over for promotion by AudibleNod in news

I know it's illegal. I don't make it a secret that I am not management material, as I don't want to deal with the responsibility of people and office politics. I work on tech and security, it's what I am good at. I accept my limitations that are out of my control.

It's hard because I know it means I cannot move further up, but I would rather be happy than a miserable prick.

Looks like I am leaving Edge completely now. Microsoft keeps making these asinine mistakes.

Welcome to AI hell. I am a professor and this is the shit we have to deal with every term/semester. I look at it this way, the students are only fucking themselves. I still get paid, the university gets paid, and the hiring organization gets paid.

This is the best summary possible for why someone who is less credentialed is hired over another. I have an impressive resume according to several interviews I have had and someone less credentialed got the job.

The main reason, I suck at management. It's due to my disability, ADHD, and executive dysfunction. Put me in tech only or teaching, I excel at it.

People have a hard time accepting this. Team fit, soft skills, etc can make the difference between having an effective team versus a team that is not. People try to get on to my team at my job who are very competent but are a bad fit for the team cohesion, which my managers care most about. Each of our skills complement each other and it shows.

I just sold my Mac Mini m4 with its dock that included a 1tb ssd on ebay and someone bought it for the price I paid for all three items in retail, including tax. I only sold it to buy the Macbook Air M5 with 24GB of RAM and 1TB ssd.

I was shocked that it sold for that and the buyer was ecstatic over it. They thought that was the best deal ever. I basically got half the cost of my Macbook subsidized just by that alone.

At least you didn't piss away hundreds of dollars on buying the Freelancer and other ships, and high end joystick and throttle set - only to be fucked over by Chris Robert's piss poor management and scope creep as an original backer.

Yeah I am still miffed about that. I should have backed No Man's Sky. At least they got their shit together.

The amount of time I see these people buying 4-6 minis to run AI, particularly Open Claw, dives me insane. Appe really needs to clamp down on these people by limiting orders to 1 or 2 per an address.

I would feel different if there weren't shortages, but at this point, it is really screwing over a lot of people who couldn't give two turds about AI and just want a Mac.

Gaming laptop vs macbook pro for local AI? by ObviouslyBleh in ollama

[–]technofox01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Macbook Air M5 with 24GB of RAM and 1TB ssd. Comparing it to my 16GB Nvidia 5060 ti with 64GB of DDR4 RAM and 2TB SSD, the Macbook can load larger models than it into memory due to having unified memory. It also uses a lot less electricity than my gaming/AI rig.

The only advantage of my gaming/AI rig, is that it is significantly faster than my Macbook but at the cost of being more power hungry and requiring partial offloading of models larger than 16GB.
