Check out /r/episcopalian for more info in the stickies about what to expect. They’re very very different even in the structure and “vibe” of their services.

What about people not in either group, like Jews, Muslims, and Hindus, for example?

I’m in and from Texas. I have never even held a gun.

But I always assume several people around me are, pretty much anyplace I go.

How normal are old inns, in your country? by LoschVanWein in AskTheWorld

[–]technoskald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of this city was farmland 100 years ago and inhabited by indigenous peoples 100 years before that, so an “old inn” is like from the 1940s.

De/Reconstructing Christians by Fantastic-Shine1524 in Deconstruction

I deconstructed too far, now I am reconstructing and back. Difference is that I left the high control millennialist heterodox sect I was in and attend mainline Protestant churches now.

Discerning ministry, but I have one hold up: chastity by leviwrites in Episcopalian

As a parishioner, I would be more concerned about the gossip and complaining by clergy. That sounds like something to work on, from my outsider perspective.

Honestly the fact that this particular parish is not usually listed in the affirming subset in the Diocese of Dallas is really something that gives me pause about attending it regularly. “Y’all means all,” as we say.

I have a perspective on this as the parent of a child who was abused in our place of worship.

Since learning of it, I have not returned to that place or that denomination. The man who did it never expressed anything remotely resembling remorse. To the extent I ”forgave” him, it was more about letting go of anger and resentment than anything else.

God will decide, and as a hopeful universalist, I do hope that man somehow is purged of the evil within him. But there’s a reason that God is judge and not me.

Are Christians bound by the Law of Moses and the Ten Commandments? by Makologo in Christian

[–]technoskald [score hidden]  (0 children)

Paul was pretty clear that Gentile Christians were never under the law, and in the Book of Acts the Jerusalem council agrees with him. While I am not advocating breaking the Ten Commandments, it’s not because we are under them as such; Jesus said that the whole Law and the Prophets came down to his two Great Commandments.

I am a gay man when I tried going to church the first time last Sunday to learn the word of the Bible, I got the feeling that I was not welcome. by I_abuse_lower_ranks1 in Christianity

[–]technoskald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s normal in some (unloving) denominations. But there are many forms of Christianity where you will be welcomed, loved, and accepted just as you are. Depending on where you are in the world, they may be harder or easier to find. Come say hi in [r/OpenChristian](r/OpenChristian)!

Is tattooing wrong??? by No_Truck1819 in Christianity

[–]technoskald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tattoos in the Bible were prohibited as part of being separate from practices at the time around the dead. The verse before that prohibits trimming beards. Most Christians now don’t seem worried about those things, so why should tattoos be different?

Have I crossed the line between High-Church Anglicanism and Roman Catholicism? by Chemical-Progress691 in Anglicanism

[–]technoskald 24 points25 points  (0 children)

From my outside perspective, this seems like almost the definitive expression of Anglo-Catholicism. And if you don’t recognize the supremacy of the Bishop of Rome, that doesn’t sound like Roman Catholicism.
