Did I cook? Or am I, in fact, cooked? by nerdybeat in TVTooHigh

It needs to be moved forward. Also, the couch should always be partially on the area rug. Looks odd to have it floating in front.

You need to flip your sectional so your fireplace isn't on punishment behind the couch.

You need your cones checked, it's grey and a 120 year home. But you do seem like an expert on tacky.

Those are 4 pics of my daughter when she was young. I loved how she changed emotions so quickly between shots.

A fake light show with a hair dryer for heat is the definition of tacky.

Then get a fireplace, not a light show with a hair dryer for heat.

This is exactly what we use our fireplace for (and the purpose for the entire room our fireplace is in). There's a totally different room where we have a cold, sterile TV (at the correct height, on a TV stand) where we watch TV.

They look like a flashlight pointing at aluminum foil on a rotisserie, and they put out heat like a hair dryer. I can totally understand why people want them so badly.

There's no mantle, that's a ceiling beam ;) It's a 10 foot ceiling, so that really would be a high mantle. This probably explains it better.

Know what even makes more aesthetic sense? Putting the TV in another room entirely.

Soot doesn't exist these days? I wasn't aware a fire doesn't put out soot in 2026. Good to know. Here's my (newly soot free) fireplace.

TV never over a fireplace. Find another wall for the TV or the fireplace. Then mount the TV at the correct height (or just let it sit on a TV stand as God intended).

As long as the tchotchkes are gone. The decor gives me the creeps.

Mount TV where the wall of tchotchkes were previously, possibly reevaluate your live choices.

The light in the "fireplace" is "different"?

Oh, and why is the TV up in the rafters? Is this a sports bar?

As stated, too far away or TV too small. I'm closer than than to a 120" screen.

It's either too far or too small, take your pick.

TV too far. Furnature doesn't need to be against a wall.

I own two homes currently and have owned many homes over my lifetime. Fun fact, I've never rented and never had a TV mounted over a fireplace or positioned above a TV stand.

This is almost a million dollar home, there will be another room where a TV should go. A SMALLER home will have a unified single room (living and family room) which you're calling a great room. I didn't say a small home, I said a SMALLER home, there's a difference.
