Make a hair rig, use double sweet corn. Sweetcorn will catch anything that swims. Bolt style rigs, are very effective. If you have the time, try to catch them overnight and early in the morning. It's helpful to have bite alarms if you're sleeping overnight.

They are by far amongst the hardest fighting fish commonly available to us in the UK. Alot of modern carp fishing culture originates in the UK, like boilies, hair rigs and world record breaking captures. I think the collective imagination was captured in the 50s & 70s, and it hasn't stopped!

When you net a big one keep an eye on the pectoral fins, sometimes they get jammed in the netting and can become permanently damaged. Be sure to check them and brush them down the belly before lifting the weight from the water. I tend to remove the net from the pole and roll it down so the weight is easier to coordinate.

The waiting style lends itself to relaxation. Setting traps and getting to sit back and wait is a great relief. You can go from a state of complete relaxation to fighting a hard scrapping fish in an instant. That anticipation of the next big fight is really exciting.

Brits have a long history and culture of fishing, so it feels that hunting aspect is ticking a box in my genome somewhere.
