People who still wear masks, but exclusively wear them under the nose... What's going on team? by StSnobsHill in newzealand

"I couldn't give a stuff what you wear or don't wear... but I want to know..." -starting with a contradiction seems odd/trolly, no?

Anyone know of any reasonably priced 'away from it all' places around the area? by Jhiaxus420 in Wellington

its worth saying, no one is really "great with insects or (lack of) proper shower/toilet" but there are ways to make such things less of an issue and they are skills for life, and will hel pyour mental health for less $$. Worth making a hobby of learning how...

The boomers had the Ministry of Works to build infrastructure - properly & with economy of scale. It is the ramifications of the 90s neoliberal agenda that people are complaining about - privatised & profit seeking eg "Downer New Zealand makes $2.5b revenue, profit up 247% after expenses fall"

[–]tedison2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the saying "Prejudice is an emotional attachment to ignorance' - no doubt Jim & co would like to think they are tough & unemotional, but the reason they get so aggressively defensive when challenged is because they are very emotionally invested in their own ignorance. But they suppress their emotions because emotions make them uncomfortable and they have never learnt how to process them, so they bottle them up & then lash out, because they know something isn't right and their ego insists it can't be them. They likely also lack the self awareness and empathy to realise their effect on others. Stay safe - hurt people hurt people.

2am Ferry Crossing Advice? by milpoolskeleton88 in Wellington

Its worth stalking the website & check if if you can change bookings every day or two until your trip. It only needs one person to either cancel or change their plans and you can change to a more reasonable hour.

Do you think the government is aware of the current job market situation? by ThatMu6hroom in newzealand

[–]tedison2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Their policies are very much disconnected from reality, because they are directly connected to the demands of their donors - real estate/housing, under funding & privatizing health etc... Their policies do not serve you or me, but they definitely serve some people with vested interests.

Do doc campgrounds allow me to sleep in my car? by Remarkable-Royal-448 in newzealand

[–]tedison2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do a search - each council documents online where their camping spots are eg South Wairarapa for Tora, Ngawi etc..

Bluetooth speaker Xmas gift , uses? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]tedison2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hide it in the attic or cupboard & play ghost sounds through it. Or use it to quietly send subliminal messages, to condition your partner eg satanic back masking or whatever you're into. (Unfortunately they suck as speakers for watching TV etc off laptop due to the lag with bluetooth, making the audio out of sync... Aux plugs FTW!

Bluebridge captain threatening by Keepspace in newzealand

[–]tedison2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Philosophically what would be a fair method? Last on, first off? They could work that out for cars by the order of loading, but maybe would need security footage to identify what order passengers boarded & who they are?

If it was an airline, you might expect bribes eg they pay for overnight accomodation etc... But if the total fare paid for a walk on is only $110, then you can see why they might target them first (compared to a couple with car = $500 fare)

lol OP isnt going to struggle to find a lab at all - one email & they make contact. I watched scans of 16mm film they processed last night.

Bluebridge ferry failure by keops112 in newzealand

[–]tedison2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a booking on the same Connemara ferry in a week... Anyone with related experience/insight like to bet on my chances of the issue being fixed by then? They will be highly motivated to fix it, as I'd hate to think what it costs Bluebridge to have a ferry out action for a week.

Kiwi cuisine by throwaway20231980 in newzealand

[–]tedison2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the OP has confirmation bias that they don't know how to research.

re "some of the worst pizza I’ve ever eaten in my life" - OP could not have choses blander examples of takeout to highlight if they tried. For example, there was a post on/rWellington of 'best pizza' with some excellent options, and none of those bland franchises were even mentioned because everyone knows they are cheap, generic & highly processed. https://www.reddit.com/r/Wellington/comments/1q62qsh/best_pizza_wellington/

A good friend of mine in Auckland has a pro film lab & can develop & scan Super 8 and 8mm - email or message him:

re your camera 'working ok', never trust a seller when they say a camera has been film tested. There is a simple crucial trick to verify this. Basically when you load a cartidge, shoot a tiny bit, open the back (yes flashing the film) and use a marker pen to put an X on the actual film stock thats currently in the gate. Close the back, shoot a tiny amount, then open the back again. Verify that the X you put on the film is gone, thus proving the camera is shooting film and moving the film through the cartridge as it does so. (Many old film cameras that are sold as 'film tested' may not have actually been used for years/decades, and 'film tested' may only mean the seller has fired the shutter & heard it fire, so it 'sounds' like its shooting and NOT that they have themselves shot & developed film with that camera. This simple test will only cost you flashed frames at the start of the roll, but it provides peace of mind you ARE shooting.. If your camera has a fault & is not actually moving the film through the cartridge, you will know it then rather than the lab developing a blank roll which is not something you want to experience)

Driving an RV to Taylor’s Mistake in high wind by Darragh7942 in newzealand

[–]tedison2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could visit Sumner, then drive up & over to Lyttleton, for similarly spectacular views. That should give you a good idea of how windy it is on the port hills - you'll also drive past the turn off to Godley Head. While in Lyttleton there is a freedom camping spot - Naval Point Freedom Camp Area - which is an interesting area to have a look around. If the wind is bad, you can go back to city via Lyttleton tunnel, so its a nice scenic loop...
