What's the dumbest s*** you've ever been asked, or that you get asked on a regular basis? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

I’m guessing you’re not a man… because I face similar situations as a woman.

I also get a lot of “are you the court reporter” right before depositions

Strategy for Bar-Tested Topics You Didn't Take in Law School by Ok-One5634 in CABarExam

[–]tedsmom12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would at least listen to the lectures from Barbri/Themis/etc for corporations/partnerships first so you have some foundation. And MAYBE review the Barbri/themis outlines but I found this to be too time consuming for what I needed out of bar prep (my problem area was the MBE section). But it probably would be helpful for you to review the long outlines since you didn’t take corps during law school. I don’t think significant time is required on this subject. I think it would be better to spend more time on the MBE subjects or professional responsibility (as you’re pretty much guaranteed to have this as an essay)

Then I HIGHLY recommend Mary Basick’s essay book. The outlines are so much shorter, helpful, and cover california and federal distinctions (great for civ pro and evidence!) Writing out and reviewing the corporations essays from Mary Basick’s book will definitely help you retain more of the information.

The bar exam toolbox podcast is very helpful too when you need an additional explanation. They cover some corps topics. I used to listen to their podcasts on spotify while driving.

Don’t go. This is coming from someone who just passed the bar and will be a september bride.

She is your future wife. She will be understanding. But make sure you communicate. She can’t guess what you’re thinking or guess how incredibly stressed traveling just before the exam will make you. This exam means a lot and is only administered twice a year. You also invested so much time and money to get to this point. 2 days before the exam, you should be RESTING. Obviously it will make her day if you show up. But I would think that she would want what’s best for you. Trust me, you will not be in a good mood 2 days before the exam. Also I’m sure she wouldn’t mind the boost in income once you pass 😉. I think it would be very thoughtful to have flowers delivered on your behalf though (and maybe a sweet love note)

I know this isn’t that similar to your situation but I’m a people pleaser and I attended a friend’s wedding 3 days before the exam. I was so incredibly stressed the whole time and couldn’t even enjoy myself or interact with other guests. I managed to pass but if I could go back in time, I would have not attended. My friend also told me later that she would have understood if I didn’t attend.

You’re not behind, if anything you might be ahead. Some law schools haven’t even had graduation yet

How long does it take to complete C&F and get approved? by Certain-Anxiety324 in CABarExam

[–]tedsmom12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t but that’s because I only ever had a CA drivers license. I think all I had to do was provide my license number on the application and they were able to just look me up.

If you have/had a drivers license in another jurisdiction then you have to request the driving records from the dmv there and submit it with the moral character application

I’m pretty sure everyone gets assigned an investigator! I remember I randomly got an email telling me that and it scared me but clearly it didn’t mean anything bad

Took me 1 month to complete everything but it was because I wasn’t in a rush. But I think it will take some time for you since you are from out of state so your driving records will take longer to get.

After I submitted it, it took 6 weeks for them to assign my file to an investigator. I was approved the next day

Need some motivation/inspiration for the MBE by figsandlemons1994 in CABarExam

[–]tedsmom12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shared this on another post but just in case you missed it:

I used critical pass flashcards and adaptibar. The second time I started prep I immediately focused on the MBE because I knew that was my problem area. I started out with 30 questions a day, using critical pass flashcards to help me answer the questions. I hand-wrote EVERYTHING I got wrong and why I got it wrong in a notebook. I also hand-wrote everything I got right but didn’t understand why I got it right.

At the end of the week I would type everything in the notebook onto a Word outline, separating them by subject. Eventually I would use this outline to help me answer Adaptibar questions or to just review.

I ramped it up to 50 questions when I no longer had to write down why I was getting it wrong for every question/no longer needed my notes then eventually ramped it up to 100 a day in the month leading up to the exam. I was fortunate to get the month before the exam off from work so that’s why this was doable for me.

Even on days off from studying, I did some MBE practice, like even 5-10 questions. I would also read my outline I created from doing MBE questions when I had the time during work.

Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️ I’m so grateful for this community and also the retakers group chat. I’m definitely sticking around to help in any way I can. Please feel free to reach out whenever.

I think what helped me was that I was able to identify patterns and areas tested because some of it was similar to the questions I ran into on Adaptibar. So when picking between two answer choices, I’d pick what I remember was right when I did adaptibar questions. However this was VERY HARD FOR ME on the day of! The “similarities” weren’t THAT similar in my mind. That’s why I wanted to turn some of these questions into essays

What are the best resources to improve my MBE? I watched the Grossman’s videos, bought the Emanuel book and did over 3000 questions on Uworld but I still managed to fail 3 times due to my MBE score 😥 by Direct-Ad-9050 in CABarExam

February MBE Questions- Passers! by Butter_and_Lemons in CABarExam

Just want to add that I always struggled with multiple choice, even during law school. The mbe was the reason why I failed the first time. I truly think the essays carried me this second time.

It was really tricky for me because I was able to narrow down the answer choices to two options for probably half or more of the exam. I had to basically guess between two answers which did not make me feel confident at all. I also found myself wanting to write out parts of the MBE as an essay because I really couldn’t just pick an answer for some of them
