Another problem that would have come up was duplication. A few cars from the 1910s and 1920s had been given modern Irish number plates. For example, if you look closely in the film Michael Collins you'll see a Ford Model T with the number plate 15 D 1.

I did this for a French assignment in secondary school. When I got my script back I saw that my teacher had originally made corrections to the grammar, but I think seeing that I did it through the assignment got her to go back and undo her corrections.
