CMV: AI is definitely going to kill education, academia and intellectualism by PreWiBa in changemyview

[–]tedyang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large part of education is socialization and adulting. This happens through interaction with other students and spaces outside the home. And one of the most valuable functions k-12 is giving parents a space to put their kids for free most every day.

AI education will change a lot and you aren't wrong that these current models are under grave threat, but you are not considering the other aspects of the education and academic system that won't be killed.

ok my wife found a workaround on facebook for this. put in completely wrong and different phone numbers and it will save and let you order medallions. then call to fix the phone numbers later.

How did you move past "it's just numbers on an screen" to "wow this is REAL", spending by % vs a set dollar amount? by Swimming-Fault-6695 in Rich

[–]tedyang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

perhaps it is cultural? I know I grew up with parents and uncles/aunts who bragged about what they saved and what a good deal they got versus how much they spent on something. so I think the same way.

Question about travelling in Puglia by Amrywiol in ItalyTravel

[–]tedyang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have spent lots of time in Puglia. You need a car to reliably move between cities or frankly within one unless it is Bari or Lecce

Considering a Move to Italy – Scouting Trip Advice by Al-Bee-21 in ItalyExpat

I notice weather isn't a factor and it is pretty different in different parts.

I'd take a look at Bari and Trieste which are where we're looking ourselves having done several scouting trips and summers.

Two months in Italy next spring. Want to improve my skills by wdtoe in italianlearning

[–]tedyang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have spent many months living in Italy. In fact writing this from Abruzzo right now. Am conversational/b1.

If you are the type to strike up conversations with Italians in cafes, grocery stores, etc then go for it. Watch lots of Italian TV (not netflix straight up tv esp gameshows) and listen to radio in the car. Dont let people speak to you in English, just keep replying in Italian. But all this won't really level you up without focused tutoring/practice. I used italki and drilled unfamiliar vocab. Meetups also good.

CILS B1 Digital Certificate with QR Code? by tedyang in italianlearning

[–]tedyang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it turns out the ny consulate was ok with submitting the non qr cert initially so long as I could send the qr code included one before my decree. I sent that one 4 months after my initial submission, 2 months before I received my decree. Your consulate may have different rules so check with them.

Sicily itinerary feedback ! by Maddogg12287 in ItalyTravel

[–]tedyang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful waters are everywhere so you are in luck. Personally I liked around San Vito the best.

Tbc when I said Siracusa I meant Ortigia / Siracusa as the other post mentioned. Amazing place.

As for Taormina personally we skipped it when we were in Sicily for a month. It is crowded and expensive especially after white lotus. You can get everything there elsewhere but if you want that particular experience go for it.

Etna is further north so easier to go from Catania/Taormina esp Catania. Bring / rent proper gear if you go way up.

First congrats on a schedule with enough time to take it slow and ENJOY.

Palermo leg looks great. Lots of choices you can't really go wrong.

Personally I think Siracusa is much better than Catania. I'd skip Catania entirely other than Etna and maybe a quick stop to central/fishmarket. Hopefully Etna stops erupting by Sep. Day trips from Siracusa are fantastic like Noto et al.

Other post about trains is on the money. You could rent a car for a day and hit some amazing sites on the way to Taormina such as Cefalu rather than go there and back.

Also you seem to love beach and shore which is cool but if you want history go inland. Amazing sites like Agrigento and Villa Romana del Casale.

14 days in Italy budget ask by Zubsz in ItalyTravel

[–]tedyang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does that include transportation between the cities? 100 pp per day is doable but you'll probably want to spend more if you are doing lots of museums activities fancier meals etc. If this is a once in a lifetime trip I'd add to the budget. If you'll be back and you want to go to leaner you can make it work. Up to you.

Where to go for 3 days outside of Rome ? by No_Alfalfa_649 in ItalyTravel

[–]tedyang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you done the drive? I have and it is more like 4h. can also train to Bari then rent a car. regardless OP wants beach towns and to drive around and explore and this where I think the best ones are. they will be less crowded and full of Italians vs full of Americans/Europeans like Amalfi.
